Enjoyable, but...

DISCLAIMER:
In my reviews 5/10 means "mediocre", 3/10 is "bad", 7 is "good", 9 is "excellent / exemplary", 10 is "if they category matters to you, WATCH THIS"

I care a lot about endings because great endings are correlated with being a great show. I watched this show quickly, years ago, but found it forgettable. Nothing really made an impression on me. Especially the ending, which lacked punch to make up for the dry spell (of not much going on) in the last several episodes.
Most everyone does an excellent job with performances. I loved how pre-marital sex in relationships wasn't spoken of in hushed tones but causal as it is for much of the developed world. I liked the male lead more than the female lead, for no particular reason.

Reading the other reviews, it might be rewatchable, but I can't say for certain. I'm able to rattle off a list of 5-10 drama at a given time that I would recommend watching and I never remember that I watched this show until I check MDL.
I think that says everything right there.

Really, this show makes me curious for the production around it. Something that started engaging and relatable just wandered off and took my interest with it. Where'd _that_ show go?

great noona drama

an enjoyable drama, i watched it in one setting, the acting, music, story all great, my only complaint is there was nothing interesting in this drama except for the main couple story, i almost fast forward all the other scenes especially in the last episodes, they are boring with repetitive lines to say, the main couple are great actors and both their characters were nice, i did like how byung Hee acted when she figured out she likes "" there was not any complexity like the typical k-drama, she figured out that she does not like the doctor and went straight to tell him and break everything up. the sister is too annoying with nothing to add to the drama. anyway watch it, the end is nice and satisfying. the music is too great, i did like the main theme. the highlight of the soundtracks was when they played kim kwang seok - The Private's Letter- on last episode, my heart almost stopped, his voice always makes me smile but sad at the same time.

Non-traditional Age Gap Romance

7/10 is my rating. This 16 episode (~60 minutes/episode) series ran in South Korea in 2006. The female lead, Go Byung-hee (Go Hyun-jung) is an "old maid" by Korean standards. At 33 she feels like her life has not gone in the direction she would like. She works for a risqué magazine targeted at adult males and hopes to one day have a reporting job she can be proud of. She is also looking for that "perfect" man with which to start a family, or so she thinks. Park Cul-soo (Jung-myung) is not who she pictured as marriage material. He is her best friend's younger brother, whom she helped to raise after his parent's unexpected passing. She has always thought of him as a "baby" and as her younger brother. After a health scare that may have resulted in infertility she goes on a drunk bash and Park Cul-soo is sent to retrieve her. They wind up sleeping together and feelings long buried deep send Go Byung-hee into the arms of her "perfect" man, a urologist who was writing advice for her magazine. He seems ideal, he is close to her age, attractive, and well off. She denies her feelings for Park Cul-soo because he is nine years younger and also because everyone, herself included, has always thought of him as family.

spoiler ? I had a hard time understanding how nine years was as big of a deal as this made it out. Even in American culture though there is cultural bias against older women with younger men. However, this was like she was robbing the cradle or something. I loved both characters, loved the character development and enjoyed exploring the ageism thing. I was a little disappointed in the ending as, for me, I felt it left me to decide what happened to all involved. It seems to be a common theme in Asian dramas where things are not wrapped in neat little packages. But, for me, it reduced my enjoyment. Not only did we not know, for sure, what happened with the main couple but the secondary romance was even in doubt. It is worth watching. I would not put it at the top of the list. More like somewhere in the middle.

Issues of consent can't be ignored

I'm all for noona romance and stories where the leads find each other despite everyone else looking down on their relationship. That's my jam.

This drama did a great job in depicting the misogyny that women in their 30's had to face, especially the time that it aired. Our fl didn't let society drag her down.

Still, the first sexual encounter between the two leads wasn't exactly consensual from either side, she was black out drunk and he "couldn't say no". Is this how you want a love story to start? If they had accidentally kissed instead of that, I'd give the drama a 9.5 due to the story and acting. But I can't endorse this message, that SA could be romantic.

Overall, you should skip this and if you like this type of stories there's Something In The Rain, Find Yourself, My Fated Boy etc

Uma Comédia Romântica Inusitada e Irresistível

What's Up, Fox?
