I really did enjoy the drama.. But the ending was left up to the viewers whether they think he is dead or alive And thats one thing that disappointed me. It makes me feel that the writer of the drama is not confident enough with her/his ending. Though I overall really enjoyed the drama. But yet I suggest you to watch this drama if you are a fan of Kim woo bin.. You see even in real he has cancer.. I won't say you anymore spoiler.. Just enjoy the drama. Kim woo bin and Suzy acted Really well. I overall enjoyed the drama alot. There are a few people I really liked in the drama.

I have a hard time rating this drama, mainly because I loved some things about it and absolutely hated others. I was totally in love with the first 11 or 12 episodes. The tragic characters, the intrigue, the manipulation on many levels, the pathetic situation of one of the characters were pretty well done for me. I kept going back for more and more. I don't necessarily love melodramas; however, many of them are well done and pretty balanced in their stories, so as long as they make me feel like the characters' actions were reasonable and somewhat justified by their circumstances, I just roll with it. However, this stopped being the case here at certain point. The main characters started acting irrational and kind of petty. It was especially the case with Shin Joon Young, who seemed to be going back and forth on what he actually wants to accomplish in his life. The ending, though predictable, didn't really give me the necessary closure. I will not be re-watching this drama because it didn't stir up emotions that I would like to go through again.

Hello!! Please forget all the bad reviews and just read this, I don't know where to start but one thing is sure you will cry your hurt out at the end of this show. I mean even if you're someone who don't like melodrama and stuff like that, even you will cry at the end of this show.

The acting of the whole cast was impeccable. The whole show was DAEBUK. The story and acting was so real and I really felt everything and it touched my heart. I didn't want this show to end. I become so attached to the characters and didn't really want this to end. I want this to go forever.

Though, it doesn't have a happy ending. It will definitely teach you something in the end and you will be blessed for what you have in this life. I will definitely rewatch this show but not alone, I will definitely watch it with a friend, so that I could get a shoulder to cry on.

OKAY!! enough of the melodrama. But please do watch this show, you can't miss on such a masterpiece. This show will intrigue you from the very first episode and please watch it with a pack of tissues with you as it is one hell of an emotional ride which will broke your heart. But WATCH THIS SHOW!! and feel everything as its beautiful.

Melodrama - unlike what I write down bellow I trully recommend it

Shortly its about dying guy.
Which want to :repair: his wrongdoings to people he loves or loved.

I give it 8.5 just cause I gived 9 to series with alike theme which I think done better in moving mine emotions.

Actors did quite good work sadly human relations in this story are quite complicated which gives less room for romance.
Overall indecision of main dying character is understandable but its propably main reason why I didnt empathise as much as I could and main reason for score just 8.5

well, i finally did it. after a good dozen or so attempts i finally finished my first asian drama.

Kim Woo-Bin sealed the deal for me from the pilot tbh. i'm not that knowledgable about kpop so i didnt even know who suzy was till halfway truh, so! all him. his extremely captivating self. who just kept growing on me as it went. tears down my eyes un-

yeah i'll go for it, why not

uncontrollably, by the last few eps.

fantastic performance.

i'm glad to be able to call this my first drama. i feel like it set me up well for what's to come, serving as a good introduction to those sensibilities i clashed with through all my other attempts. it all just flows really well once you get on the same wavelength with it. the music, the surprisingly creative camerawork, dramatic editing. everything works in tandem to provide maximum entertainment, in a way that feels surprisingly sophisticated. like they been around the block so many times they got the formula perfected.

the constant twists and turns made the show impossible to put aside, so i ran through it pretty quickly. all the relationships worked well and were cute, minus the odd annoyance here and there, though those things seems kinda unavoidable given the nature of this subject matter. or genre as a whole, rather, since im guessing a romance drama of this kind can only really work if you continuously throw obstacles in the mix to prolong the end goal, lol.

so yeah. i really liked this. i really like kim woo-bin and suzy, although she has decidedly less character development and kinda freezes in place for the end spurt once focus goes even more to kim. (her closeups were effective n whatever, but compared to his.. she was basically making the same face at every major twist)

while the revelations in the end did feel a bit underwhelming at first given all the anticipation, and the sheer amount of stuff they had to cover, i commend them for the decision to slow things down for the landing. it left me feeling very sober, so any criticisms i woulda had are just faded now.

i'm not sure how to rank 'rewatch value' so i just put a neutral 5. it's not like that should really factor into the quality of your first experience, i dont think. tho i do think ill maybe eventually hop back in just cuz its my first, and i can see myself growing even fo-

fuck it

fonder memories for it over time

onto the next one!

should have watched it years ago

I just recently finished watching Uncontrollably Fond, it's been sitting on my list for years and I just didn't dare to start it. At first I was waiting it to finish airing. Then, I started seeing some people giving negative feedback on Twitter. I wasn't sure if I would like it but since I love the two main leads I gave it a try. I'm not exaggerating when I say I wish I watched it right after it was complete. I absolutely loved every part of it. I cried and laughed many times throughout the drama. Kim Woobin surpassed my expectations. I just realized he doesn't have a lot of presence in kdramas / movies even though he’s been in the industry for a looong time but that’s mainly bc of hiatus due to his cancer treatments,, but still he is known as one of the best actors of South Korea so that says a lot about him. Anyways, I just wanted to say that this kdrama was painful yet beautiful. I would rewatch it again in the future for sure.

Review can be seen at: https://frommelbtoseoul.wordpress.com/2020/04/20/review-uncontrollably-fond/

I did try to watch this during the time it was airing, but didn’t make it past episode 4 or 5. I’m not sure what made me want to give it a second go, but I guess it’s because I hadn’t seen anything from Kim Woo Bin in awhile and missed seeing his face (lol this reasoning). Regardless of why though, I am glad I gave this a second try because I genuinely liked it a lot more this time around.

A major reason why Uncontrollably Fond was a great watch came down to the actors/actresses and the portrayal of their characters. This was especially true for Kim Woo Bin as Shin Joon Young (the male lead of course), Jin Kyung as Joon Young’s mum and Yu Oh Seong as Prosecutor Choi. All three conveyed such depth and growth within their characters and I found that I enjoyed watching their scenes and what they brought to the drama. In fact, my favourite scenes were between Joon Young and his mum. There is so much emotion involved between the two and it was so difficult not to become emotionally invested in their relationship. I can still vividly remember the different moments between them and how much it tugged on my heart.

I’ve seen a number of praises for how Kim Woo Bin plays Joon Young and I wholeheartedly agree. The character is a break from his classic troubled high school/angsty teenager. Yes, he still has a number of angsty scenes in Uncontrollably Fond and he starts off as a troubled high schooler, but there’s actually layers to his character. He presents Joon Young as a public figure who apparently everyone knows about, but holds onto so many scars and secrets that cannot be shared with anyone, even the people he loves most. However, that doesn’t stop him from wearing his heart of his sleeve. He doesn’t shy away from expressing his feelings, especially when it came to who he wanted and didn’t want in his life. I found it was easy to grow attached to his character and just wanted the best for him. For lovers with Suzy, whilst I think she’s watchable, I do think the female lead could have been played by anyone and it would not have made a difference. Woo Bin really carried the show with his acting and the way that Suzy’s character is written, coupled with how she portrayed the character, doesn’t give her the chance to shine.

The storyline itself heads in one direction. It’s not hard to see what will happen at the end. There are a series of conflicts and drama that requires resolving, but those moments are predominately vehicles for character arc development and to emphasise the importance of the overall message the show has to offer. That’s not to say that those scenes were boring. They were simple, to the point and tied very well into the overall plot. I don’t think there was any episode that was useless per se, but do think that the first 3-4 episodes and last 2-3 episodes were most memorable and grabbed my attention. What I did like from the writing is the script, essentially what the characters say either to themselves or to each other, especially in the last few episodes. There were speeches that carried a lot of meaning and I oh, so very quotable.

Uncontrollably Fond is a very, very sad watching experience. There may be some scenes that can be a trigger for those who have experienced loss and grief, but ultimately, I think the show really delivered an accurate and meaningful representation of the appreciation of life and the importance of making sure you live your life to the fullest. The emphasis on reflecting on your actions and behaviours, the relationships you build and whether you have any regrets before your life comes to an end is something I found really memorable. There’s a lot to take away from this drama, which I really liked, beyond just the usual romance and resolution of the drama presented.

Keep a box of tissues in hand!!!

I am writing a review after watching it the fourth time. I have told myself to avoid watching it but I just can’t!

The story is very well written and paced. The characters are described very much in depth and the viewers won’t have a hard time empathising with them because of the acting by all actors, which was on point. They make you laugh and cry with them automatically.

The ending if you judge by only happy and sad for the viewers, it is sad. But logically speaking it stayed true to the story, there was no miracle of any sort. I should say - it was very realistic.

If you see this drama and think “Should I try it or not?” , the answer is a definite Yes. It’s worth trying, though I agree it may not suit the taste of some.

Definitely a tearjerker at times. I didn't cry at the emotional scenes but they sure left a big impact on my feelings at the time. That's where this drama excelled. Compelling characters that mostly have a lot of depth - Shin Joon Yeong and Assembly Man Choi for sure - met with emotionally driven scenes. Our main character is dying so we are stuck with this inevitable sense of dread. The character doesn't go with the easy choice of simply ending his day's with the women he loves. Shin Joon Yeong instead decided to give No Eul the justice she deserves while making up for the guilt he has for his previous actions. It leads to some frustration but it turns out to be necessary and it shows how great of a person he was.

Suzy Bae was off the hook but I really don't know how she kept up with the back n forth love and hate scenes. I was kind of disappointed in how the story went. It seemed that the writers tried to make the ending not sad. It didn't work for me even though I wanted a miracle to happen and in reality, that's part of life. Of course, I did get very emotional at the end. At least the death scene wasn't tragic or toxic. It was peaceful but still sad and I still didn't like it. Kim Woo Bin who played Shin Joon Jeong did very well. That upper body of his looked H E A L T H Y! I always have to give my thanks to the rest of the cast, soundtrack, costume, food, etc because if you all were not chosen to make this story work even though I didn't like all the back n forth stuff or the ending. Oh well, you love some and then you don't.

NOTE: Cancer is a disease a lot of people are living with. Treatments have come a long way and lives are being saved. I do want to thank the writers for the awareness of cancer. Kim Woo Bin, I will be praying for you every single day that you will be 150% free from Cancer. I know by reading that you finished your treatment and are now recuperating, again, I will pray that your health continues to thrive. You are a very talented actor and I hope to see you in more KDramas.

I've heard many bad things about this drama. Many bad reviews, low ratings, comments saying that Suzy Bae's acting is bad, and many spoilers. Therefore I've been putting off this drama for a very long time. I decided to watch it as my last resort as I've run out of dramas to watch, lmao. I watched this with very very very low expectations, I was almost certain I would drop this drama... But surprisingly I didn't.

The plot is cliche overall. I knew what would happen to the main character since everyone spoilt it in comments and reviews??. But it isn't bad as I thought, it was interesting enough to keep me hooked for 20 episodes. There are many annoying, bit*hy characters, there wasn't a single episode where I didn't yell at my computer screen. The part where the male lead turns from the female got me annoyed, and he dragged it out unnecessarily long, which I felt was the only problem with the plot. I expected the ending to be extremely sad, but surprisingly I didn't cry at all in episode 20, only episode 19 I cried.

The acting was surprisingly really good. There was no problem with Suzy's acting. She portrayed her character really well. And as always Kim Woo Bin acting was spot on.

The OST is probably the favorite part of the drama. ♫"Only yoouuu hooo huuu hooo"♫ And ♫"When it gets hard.....I get a little stronger now!!!!"♫ The OST isn't overused and is not annoying :)

The ending means that there will be no season 2, so I wouldn't rewatch.

An exploration of life lessons

I now find most Korean dramas offputting because 5 out of 10 dramas will be some melodrama that advances the plot by throwing grenades when a simple lighter would have sufficed. Most are vicious, violent, classist, and demeaning to those who aren't part of the super-rich, mostly though, I'm tired of how the characters are always so damn loud which makes me simultaneously cringe and sigh. Like, seriously, do Koreans not have an inside voice?

All that aside, Woo-bin gave an excellent performance and I pray he's cancer free forever because the world needs more kind people like him.
