An exploration about what it means to be a mother
This show does something special. It goes beyond just telling a story, but it shows you what it means to be a mother and to have a mother. This is one of the GOATs of TV shows, up there with the likes of Go Ahead and My Mister. This show is a longform essay about mothering and motherhood, and is wonderfully nuanced and poignant in its commentary about social issues. But at the heart of it all, it's about the love story between a lonely woman and a lonely child, how they became mother and daughter to each other, and how they chose each other over and over again.(I need a Father counterpart now please ?)

drama " Mother "

What it means to be a mother
There's a kind of pain want to start this review by talking about.I first heard of this kind of pain when I read and watched Margret Atwood is the handmaid's Tale.in her book she talks about akind of pain that is so deep that you laugh. When I read about this I thought how much plain does a person have to be in to laugh instead of instead of cry. That’s the kind of pain this show made me feel. that’s how emotional invested I was in the show.
Kang soo Jin and Kim Hye Na spend 50 days on the run. 50 days as mother and daughter. 50 days as Kim yoon Bok. From the moment soo Jin found hye na in that trash bag outside her house I felt everything. I was in so much pain and when soo Jin and yoon bok are seperated, the pain is so deep that I laugh. I couldn’t stop laughing because we were there. Not almost we were there. And then we hear the sirens. The escape was so close that we touched it and then we hear the sirens. I couldn’t stop laughing and then I couldn’t stop crying.
This show has one thing and one thing only to tell you. Not everyone can be a mother. The courage to risk everything and give up everything for a child, not everyone has that.

The background music at some places are soothing.
The mother (birth as well as adopted as per story) and the child acting stands at every scenes.
Even though the story goes in a slow pace its make viewers to watch it without any hesitation.
This drama not only talks above the love between the mother and daughter ,it also talks about child abuse.
p.s : If you are an emotional person, sit with a tissue box. Every episodes makes you cry.
Such a heart touching ride.

underrated but so so worthwhile !!
genuinely the best drama i've watched, with every. single. episode exceeding my expectations.cried multiple times for a lot of of the episodes, laughed a lot, was angry often, shocked, tense but mostly, learnt a LOT of lessons.. this drama has everything and more you'd need.
the synopsis doesn't even encapture half of the drama's charm... from exploring the topics of what it means to be a Mother, it dwells upon other aspects such as adoption, society, abuse, sacrifices, the criminal justice system and so much more. personally, i loved the focus on other characters too, so you will get a chance to go beyond just the main characters, and resonate with everyone else.
the acting is incredible. the plot is well-executed, with not a single boring scene despite it touching upon such a serious concept.
definitely would recommend it, though not any other drama could ever compare. it is so moving and will undoubtedly have a close place in my heart.

WARNING! Prepare your tissues!
Didn't expect myself to go through a roller coaster of emotions while watching this show from start till the end. The setting and cinematography of the show sets you into the emotions easily and the plot is straightforward, does not have not any subplots or major twists.Acting for me was a 10/10. Always liked Lee Bo Young & she has truly aced her role in this show! Definitely a kdrama that I would recommend to anyone!
FINAL VERDICT: recommended for those that are in for a highly emotional ride

Beautiful Portrayal of Motherhood
⋆ This drama portrays motherhood from different perspectives. Alongside the main storyline, we see motherhood from Soojin's adoptive mother & her birth mother.⋆ This drama explores in great depth the meaning of being a "mother".
At first I thought 16 episodes were far too long for this type of drama but the writers made very good use of each episode. They explore and closed the story very nicely. We are not left to wonder what happened X or why did this happen?
: ̗̀➛ story + character development
I enjoyed watching the 2 leads become closer and attached to each other. Their dynamics worked well together.
The exploration of the characters (main+side) showed how many are imperfect which gave the drama an element of realness.
I also appreciate how we were given enough information and closure for side character stories.
: ̗̀➛ story + cinematography
The writing and story-telling was honestly beautiful. The dialogue added perfectly to the story.
The crew did well with the cinematography whether to show us a dark scene or the lovely scenery.
: ̗̀➛ acting
Absolutely brilliant acting from the entire cast. I was really impressed with the child actress Heo Yool, she gave off a strong performance!
Lee Bo-young as Soojin was just perfect. She beautifully portrayed the change from cold to warmth in Soojin.
: ̗̀➛ overall thoughts
Mother is not the typical kdrama as it's not as light-hearted. But it did keep me warm. It also made me think about those who are mother figures in my own life. I highly recommend this drama to anyone who wants to watch!
