Don't be scared to skip a bit...
I'll admit that I was hesitant to pick this up because I didn't find the ML attractive. (I'm shallow, I know; shoot me.) I really like Janice Wu & have found the roles she chooses don't annoy me. Yes, that's my basic requirement for a FL these days, haha. I have a feeling she is just adorable irl & it transfers on the screen. Anyway--that's why I started watching. Why I KEPT watching was 1) the music 2) the MC's story arc & 3) Ztao. I was MORE than pleasantly surprised by Ztao's acting & general screen presence. His looks grew on me as well & in the end, I've changed my mind: he's attractive but more in a charismatic way rather than the usual "pretty" boy lead. I agree with another reviewer's gripe about him having too much make-up on, though. It was distracting until I stopped noticing it. His character development was so realistic & subtle. It definitely helped that Ztao is obviously a talented musician & was able to have much of that on display to add realism & dimension to his character throughout the drama. I will admit to searching out more of his music after watching this! :) His chemistry w/the FL was great & even though the romance started WAAAYYY too late for me, it was seamless & believable. Cute, too!I LOVED that both Janice & Ztao were not dubbed. It really sold their chemistry for me. Unfortunately, it was obvious in some situations with other actors when the dubbed sections kicked in & there was a mis-match.
I do think this drama is too long at 44 episodes & a LOT of the side characters' stories were uninteresting to me. There were also unnecessarily over-dramatized scenes & weird culture references w/American hip hop that felt a little off as well. I will admit to skipping liberally through all other parts unrelated to the MC but I would recommend this drama JUST FOR THE MC & the music.

Slow burn romance. Interesting backstories.
I’ll keep this short. The romance is a slow burn. I like this because the characters start off hating each other. It seems more realistic than just “falling in love” right away.A main complaint of this story is that the scenes at the company take up too much screen time. I personally don’t agree with those complaints. Those scenes are important to give context to the stresses of the characters’ lives. It also gives a look at the entertainment scene, this time from the business side of things. I appreciate that about this drama because becoming an idol is something that many people dream of doing, even if it only briefly. I assume that if you are an English speaker watching dramas in an Asian language, you have at least entertained the idea of becoming an idol in a company. This gives a look at the more gritty side of the entertainment industry. I appreciate this take on a career that seems glamorous but has some unforeseen, dark aspects.
The acting is overall very good! I’m not a professional, but nothing stood out to me as glaringly poor.
The outfits are nice! However, ZhenZhen still looks too put together, even though her character supposedly has “bad taste”. I do like that the drama’s characters reuse outfits. That aspect is quite realistic. However, one of the characters, Ma Lina, wears very revealing clothing and it just isn’t realistic that she would wear that in an office setting. Now that I think about it, though, maybe she is wearing short clothing on purpose to seduce a certain person…
The storyline is nicely plotted. Like I said, it’s a slow burn. Patience, people! It gets good by the end! Also, the ending does not have a clear resolution, leaving the drama open for a second season. I would definitely not be opposed!
The camerawork is wonderful! It adds to the story rather than takes away. I dislike it when I’m watching and all I can focus on is the bad camera angle rather than the actual scene. That’s definitely not the case for this drama, though! Beautiful cinematography!

Watched it for the music
The first cdrama with Z.Tao in it that I watched was Legally Romance. I liked the song that he sang for that drama, which brought me here. A drama that features many of his songs! Especially since he plays a singer in the drama. What I liked about this drama is its brutal honesty about the music industry in Asia. I have a friend who used to be a C-pop singer. She got out of the it for the very reasons why the ML and secondary ML didn't like the industry: being seen as a product instead of a person. I also liked all of Z.Tao's songs (and Z.Tao himself), the FL's cuteness, the ML's older sister, and certain pretty crazy scenes.
I DIDN'T like the head of the music company. His character is just...bleh.
The first half of the drama felt more like the backstory to the rest of the drama. I guess that's okay, although it felt long. I think they could have shortened it a bit.
Rewatch value? For me, it's the music that I like so I'd rather stream Z.Tao's music.

Good show with great songs
Love this show so much I have rewatched at least 2 times. Love the songs I have got most of them on my playing now, everytime I listen to them it reminds me of the show. Storyline is good and it progresses at a good pace. This was the 1st show that I watched with Huang Zitao, it took me a while to get used to him but by the end I was involved with his character. I was a bit conflicted between the two male leads because I loved them both but everything happens for a reason and the story did have a happy ending. Was this review helpful to you?
What I liked about this drama:
1) Main leads cute relation
2) Music was too good in this drama
3) Story line was good
4) The main female lead's make over after she becomes the manager
5) The cute two managers of PR department
6) Ups and downs in the story
7) Zheng Boxu's style and attitude was awesome
8) Last two episodes were too good
9) The way Zheng Boxu was devoted to Yang Zhen Zhen.
10) The flirting of the main leads
11) Plot twist when the Granpa Gu's secret opens up
What I didn't like in the drama:
1) Its a too long drama ( 44 episodes).
2) Less romance between main leads.
3) Second main lead ( Yu zirui ) got too much screen time with the main female lead( Yang Zhen Zhen) which is too annoying.
4) less screen time for the main leads.
5) The main leads confessed and proposed in the second last episode. Too long like we have to wait for 43 episode to see them officially together. Oh god! That is was ridiculous .
6) The business part was too annoying and can be shortened by just talking main things .
Overall I didn't expected Z tao( Zheng Boxu) to act so well and Janice wu ( Yang Zhen Zhen) is just legedary actress in C - dramas and can act too well . Also loved the way Niu Jun Feng ( Yu Zirui) acts , man he is dope , his character in love O2O and your highness class monitor hits different than this . Loved them all just the screen time sucked up everything!

My comfort Drama
I absolutely loved this drama, from the leads to ost. Even tho it's similar to cliche idol-assistant cliche dramas, it differs alot too, mainly because fl is not a weak and timid girl but a strong and independant woman with alot of values and male lead is arrogant yet righteous, he is not unreasonably rude but have strong morals and protects it. One of the reason i love this drama is the same reason why others hate about this, business and side stories, I love how they portrayed alot of stories and struggles side by side with main story line it just shows people acting irrational have a backstory as well especially with second male lead and Chen Tianhao (president). Most of the dramas i have watched till now have a main story line and sometimes a side story, but this had alot of things going on and it felt like i was watching alot of dramas at the same time and it also helped me know that your story isnt yours alone, there are going to be different people involved in it with their own story and views which would affect yours as well which alot of dramas don't portray.Chemistry is 10 on 10, there was no love at first sight or hate at first sight, they were both individuals with dreams and for once there wasn't any miscommunication between them, they both thought of each other yet did what they thought was right, they didn't let their personal issues affect their profession as well. The growth of their relationship was more beautiful and natural, slow yet steady, even though they had issues before they never let that affect their job or their new boss-assistant relationship. Their relationship was built on trust, communication and reliability which makes it all the more amazing and sweet.
Don't even get me started on OST, its THE BEST, all of the songs in this have emotion and it just fits with the whole show and now rests in my playlist. And acting was amazing too. Z.Tao seemt like he was just being himself and Janice well we all knows she's really good.
I'd rewatch it over and over again, 10/10. Would recommend.

I loved this drama from beginning to end. The OST is amazing!! IT was my first time watching Z.TAO in a drama which led me to his music on spotify and his old group's music. I though the chemistry between him and the female lead was amazing. You could tell that she liked him but kept fighting it and trying to keep things professional. I wish they had more kissing scenes but really it was not needed because the chemistry they had made up for it. I loved it so much that I watched it a 2nd time already. If you are no the fence give it a dry. If you are considering dropping it then don't stick with it.I would have liked to see them getting married and having kids but hey we can't have everything we want! :-)

Good music, but a lengthly drama
I didn't love the drama as much as everyone else did. After finishing the lengthly 44 episode saga, I'm very surprised on the high ratings. The drama is older and I took that into account, the styling and sets are very outrageous and an eye sore to view.
The idol troupe was very popular back then and as much as I like a arrogant male lead, he was a bit much at times. He seemed like a brat that the FL had to take care of (like a nanny).
There is a lot of dialogue, a lot of people talking to each other about what they should and shouldn't do or pressuring people to do things, especially the FL towards the male lead.
The side stories wasn't anything to grasp on. I didn't care for the managers storyline nor did I really like the angst with the best friend later on. It just seemed to drag the show down.
What I did like was the chemistry between the actors and maybe that is why the ratings were so high. Zi Tao is a character, I don't know much about Chinese music, but since he's truly a musician I felt like they casted him well (even though he Sigh's a lot in the drama). I even liked his puffy blonde hair.
I like Janice Wu, but I didn't feel like she represented herself in the best light in this drama. I liked her in Le Coup de Foudre, but for some reason, I couldn't take her coy behavior in the beginning. I'm so glad she got a glow up and her character transforms eventually. That was the saving grace for the drama.
Overall, I mostly watched the scenes between the leads because the banter got better and the ML wasn't such a meanie (still was a bit, but not so much). The relationship between the two actually got cute. But I did fast forward the other non-sense, especially the management company drama.

I loved this drama, the chemistry was on point from the ost, effects, acting, everything. However, I had to get at least past 3/4 quarters of the drama to get to the romance. I felt as if it was being dragged on. 25-35 episodes would be ideal for this drama. The storyline, however, was extremely detailed. In real life, people grow. Its seen the main cast grows and doesn't just go along the storyline. From the start, Yang Zhenzhen was new in the music industry, now she is seen as one of the best agents in the company. Zheng Boxu, a headstrong artist, is now a better person.
The story highlights the relationship struggles aswell. All relationships aren't always rainbows and sunshine. There is conflict, but, communication was key for the characters to resolve the issue.
Overall, I really liked this drama, it incorporates real-life struggles, ups and downs and certainly a beautiful love story.
