It's the Genre!

I don't think the ML & FL has any similarities with that of “Evernight”, it's the genre actually that is exactly the same without any argument. Cdrama fans already know this XUANHUAN, kdrama why must you do this, ehe?
Also at the beginning of each drama, both ML can't cultivate for their different situations and later found their path in becoming a magician or rather mage! I can say that Ever Night's plot is more reasonable to me than AOS or I'm too early to said that since I'd completed episode 5 recently.

I've been rooting for this kind of good drama in this genre since I watched Ever Night and here it's, so I ought to enjoy it! Also Master and servant relationship between the ML & FL. Recently there are others like Doulou Continent and The Blue Whisper which I didn't enjoyed that much that are similar with AOS in genre only!

If you're enjoying AOS I guess you'll enjoy Ever Night S1 for the same taste they both share! Fingers crossed!

Both drama are high-quality productions that keep as much realism as possible. Great costumes and stage design, excellent fight scenes and excellent music that reflects the atmosphere of a given moment is something that definitely combines these productions. The plot is interesting and without a dominant romantic theme, and the characters are original and the story is rich in intelligent, but not too heavy humor.

Great story, martial arts world, sects, good and evil. Interesting character developments, a good variety of different sorts of stakeholders.

Both demonstrate a clear cut cultivation system and show the protagonist training. Both protagonists are geniuses. Though, Once Upon a Time is a lot more comedy-centric. Ever Night also has its cute moments.

FL has another identity hidden in her that people fear. ML tries to protect the FL. Both couples have an unusual relationship of master/teacher or master/servant with an age gap between them. Fantasy/historical setting with many supporting characters.

FL has another, dangerous identity that people believe can destroy the world. The ML is determined to protect and save her at all costs. Both are historical/fantasy Chinese dramas.

Not Precisely but it's quite similiar, a boy growning up to become powerful.. unveiling hidden powers.. love angles, friendships and swardmenships...

Both main characters are born with powers that they don't see and eventually through the help of people around them and the academy they learn about their strength and follow through with the fight against the evil

Both main characters secretly perform many tasks even under the eye of the king. They also both have secret identities.

Heroic tale of going from nothing to something and becoming a hero. I highly recommend this for it's great acting, script and plot.

Both have OP male and female leads who grow up together.
Male leads- Ning Que and Qin Lie grow against all odds, and gets more powerful with each near-death experience.
Both come from humble backgrounds, and rise to the highest level of powers that be.
The female leads- Sang Sang and Ling Yushi have hidden identities, are extremely powerful, and prophesied about as the great evils. Both are completely devoted to their respective male leads, and practically worship them.
The male leads on the other hand have romantic entanglements with other women- Mo Shan Shan for Ning Que, and Song Ting Yu for Yu Shi.
Both have amazing visuals, cgi and osts.

Same genre. Ever Night may have higher production values, but both are enjoyable for what they are. Very high quality effects and acting. If you're watching Oriental Odyssey, watching Ever Night in-between episode releases, is a must.

A main character (FL vs. ML) is thought of as dangerous and hunted down/attempted to be killed by the "good" people. They are saved and protected by the other lead. Both have similar tones and settings, and excellent battle scenes.

Both have good action choreography and both stories have the protagonist learning fighting skills to prepare for the final duel in a revenge subplot.
