RECOMMENDED BL SERIES!

This is one of my favorite BL! Although I had already known this the time it was being released, I was only able to watch it months after because unfortunately, I'm poor. And since then, I have been rewatching it over and over again, until now. All the casts portrayed their roles very well, especially the two male leads! Maybe because I've watched it so many times already that I was now able to point out the mistakes but that doesn't lessen my love for it. It's like you'd want to relive the chemistry the two have over and over again, as in believe it or not, the thing they have is definitely love! And I'd never ever get tired of watching The Untamed. Also, there are so many good-looking, slash, hot characters!

Best Bl

This was epic .

I started this drama without any prior knowledge I did not know anything about mo dao zu shi . This was my first Chinese bl drama and I am glad I watched it this was so good the chemistry the visuals the costumes everything was perfect each and every character played their role best . More than weiying and landzhan I loved the bond between weiying and his sister. This show actually tells how villian are made .

Everything was perfect . I wish I could get amnesia and again experience the pleasure of watching the drama first time .

This ruined every other cdrama for me help

I came in for the BL...
... stayed and cried for Yunmeng bros and Xiao Xingchen...
... ended with listening to Jiggy rapping on repeat.
(Yes, I know Zhu Zhanjin isn't the one singing, but HIS CHARACTER SONG THO)
It's actually my first wuxia/xianxia drama! I actually read the manhua instead of the novel (Scum Villain is the first and current novel of mxtx I'm reading right now, but that's for another review), but I've seen the novel spoilers on tumblr and twitter (not that there's much of a difference) so to quote that one tumblr user,
"CQL/The Untamed is basically two guys falling in love, breaking up and getting back together while playing detective. MDZS is basically Pride and Prejudice in comparison."
For novel/manhua/both readers it's an adaptation that takes a few liberties, but mostly stays faithful to the novel. For newbies tho, rest assured, I watched the drama first and it's enjoyable on its own. The romance between the two is subtext, and somehow they upped the gay and got that past the radar, all the while presenting WangXian as "two bros standing on a staircase, two feet apart cuz they're not gay :)"
Firstly, kudos to the writers for handling the murder-mystery plot and the relationships properly. And a big kudos to the actors too. Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo gave life to Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, and I was especially impressed by Yibo making a whole ass meal out of the few lines he was given to portray a stoic character with his expressions and body language. Xiao Zhan's portrayal of WWX going from carefree young man to Screwed Over By The Universe to Back Again With A Bang was so natural and so good, you wouldn't believe these two are rookie idol actors.
From the supporting cast, Zhu Zhanjin (Jin Guangyao), Guo Cheng (Lan Jingyi), Wang Haoxuan (Xue Yang) and Wang Zhuocheng (Jiang Cheng) really stood out. The supporting cast as a whole really played their part well, if you can overlook the occasional bits of overacting (Wang Yizhou's especially, though he did Nie Mingjue well).
The drama was directed so well, seeing the death of the characters we KNEW were dead in the beginning still sucker punched me in the guts. Guys, there's a whole roster of character songs too, please listen to them and come cry with me over Yi City once you're done T_T

Enchanting Visuals, Splendid and Engaging Characters

Reasons to watch -- main leads naturals in roles, endearing characters, gorgeous and detailed set designs, beautiful aesthetics, and outstanding soundtrack
Reasons to critique -- something left to be desired after ending

1. Story
Personally, I preferred the earlier half of the story when Wei WuXian was reminiscing in the past. For me, the intrigue, mystery, and villains were more interesting than the second half of the drama since it was became predictable as to how events would unfold. Story was well paced but the ending wasn't as climatic as I had hoped.

2. Characters
You could say some of the actors, specifically the main leads, were born to play their roles. Wei WuXian and Lan Zhan were as natural as actors could be. This entire drama and cast had a very youthful and lively aura.

Supporting casts were equally exceptionally chosen, such as Xue Yang, Shijie (Jiang Yan Li), Lan Yuan, Wen Ning, Wen Qing, Madam Yu, and Jin Zi Xuan.

The most memorable relationships besides the main leads were between:
Jiang Cheng - Madam Yu
Wei WuXian - Shijie
Wen Qing - Wen Ning
Wen Ning - Lan Si Zhui (A'Yuan)
Xue Yang - Xiao Xing Chen

The last relationship being the most intriguing and actually heartbreaking.

3. Costume / Set Production
No question, a ton of attention to detail went into the set design, small props, wardrobes, swords, and pretty much everywhere else. This was highly appreciated by me and added to the enchantment of the drama. A big thumbs up to the team for being so cognizant of the aesthetics.

4. Music
Nothing short of touching and beautiful. A pleasure of a soundtrack, rivals my other highly recommended soundtrack of Princess Wei Young (2016).

Listen to the entire soundtrack but in particular this song -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pZQZX30IVk

5. Ending
I do feel as though it was slightly rushed and less anti-climatic as I would have liked. For me some questions lingered and it seemed like they tried to wrap things up maybe a bit haphazardly.

Some things I would have liked seen --
(1) The death of Wen Cao and how he died. We saw him suffering but they never revealed how he died.
(2) A moment and scene of remorse with Wen Zhu Liu that perhaps meant something but never developed
(3) Relationship between Wen Qing and Jiang Cheng never developed or settled. Oh well, I liked WWX and Wen Qing though.
(4) Jin Ling and Wei WuXian never had their moment at the end, this was a big disappointment
(5) Second half of the story was predictable since most already suspected Meng Yao as the main culprit.

Overall, a drama exceptional in many categories and deserved a solid rating but maybe would have been even better if some things were different.

Now, this is one of my all time favorites!!

I am writing a review after a really long time, but this series deserves all the praise and some more. Also, this is my first Chinese period drama, and I am glad that it's getting added to my firsts...

To begin with, the locations and scenes were mesmerising. I was a total goner when I saw the scenic beauty this show portrayed. Be it landscapes or architecture, everything was perfect.

As for the storyline, I was expecting it to be slow-paced and it was; however, I have to say that the 30-episode flashback kinda tested my patience. I am very impatient and going through the past story made me question everything. But then I started seeing the story unfold and understood that it was necessary for us to fathom the chemistry and loyalty between Wei Ying and Lan Zhan.

And that brings me to our leads. Both the actors were great, their characters were written to perfection, and they both did justice to it. I know that the novel this series was adapted from is BL but here they kept their chemistry so subtle that some may not even catch it. Looks shared between Wei Ying and Lan Zhan, their unbound trust in each other, the care they showed for each other, Lan Zhan's softness and leniency towards Wei Ying, those slight smiles that Lan Zhan only gave to Wei Ying, these small things were far more intense and interesting.

I have to say this, every time Wei Ying smiled at Lan Zhan, even I couldn't stop my smile. That guy was looking crazy beautiful with his personality, attire, flute, those dark shadows, and that smile. As for Lan Zhan, I don't remember seeing him smile without any restraint or whether I missed it, I am not sure.

Overall, this series deserves all the popularity. I am sure I will watch it again someday!

Story: The story of TU is enchanting. While you may not know what to expect in the beginning, after some episodes you just won't be able to stop watching because you are gonna want to know how it ends. The characters are well written and the story keeps you on the edge and takes you through comedic events, music-based fighting, sword fighting, teasing between siblings, cute interactions, dramatic show downs, tragic events...you get pretty much everything except for a break (except for the comedy). So do not expect this to be a light watch, it's not, but is it worth it? Definitely. As for the story lines, the only minus point I found was the long flashback as well as some ridiculous revelation scenes during the last third of the series. But in the end you all see it as a whole and just go along with it.

Cast/Acting: The cast did an amazing job. That is all I have to say about it. All of them were awesome and totally brought their characters to life. Even the little kid actor was great.

Music: Like I said, a lot of musical fighting. But it's nice music and the scenes are astonishingly well done and visually, they are a sight to be seen. I do admit that some musical pieces could have been used a little less over the course of the series and I would not have been sad.

Rewatch: to be honest, the comedy scenes sure. The drama...probably not.

Overall: The Untamed is a roller coaster trip through so many emotions your heart will have a hard time keeping up. When you watch it you just won't be able to stop since you get so into the characters, you start swearing at the villains and cheering for the heroes. The dramas does have a few rough edges but it fits so well together, the rough sides are not noticeable as much. I definitely recommend watching if you want to watch a fantasy, kinda (fictional) historical series. Also do not be intimidated by the 50 episodes. You will soon forget how many you watched because the story is so addicting.

Their “Soulmate” relationship is one of kind.

*** Spoiler Alert (PERSONAL FEEDBACK)
Title : The Untamed – 2021 (Complete 50 Episode)
Personal Rating : 10/10

Wei Wu Xian / Wei Ying (played Xiao Zhan) Wei Wu Xian the Yiling Patriarch. He is outspoken and playful. He does what he thinks is right and he fights for it.

Lan Wang Ji / Lan Zhan (Played Wang Yi Bo) Lan Wang Ji is the second young master of the Lan sect. He wields the Bichen sword and the Wangji guqin. He is cold, strict, distant, and difficult to get along with, but he has a good heart and a strong sense of justice. He holds a soft spot for Wei Wu Xian, whom he regards as his soulmate.

Wei Wu Xian and Lan Wang Ji, two talented disciples of respected clans, meet during cultivation training and accidentally discover a secret carefully hidden for many years. Taking on the legacy of their ancestors, they decide to rid the world of the ominous threat. But in a dramatic turn of events, Wei Wu Xian dies.

Sixteen years later, Wei Wu Xian is brought back to life through a self-sacrificing ritual. He conceals himself behind a mask and assumes the identity of his summoner Mo Xuanyu of Mo Manor/Pavilion. And in return he will take revenge for whoever mistreats the real Mo Xuanyu.

Soon, Wei Wu Xian reunites with Lan Wang Ji and they start working together to solve the mysteries of the present and unravel the truth behind the events in the past.

Personally, I haven’t read the novel or manga so my ratings and reaction are solely based on the drama itself. And as for the drama their “Soulmate” relationship is one of kind. They know exactly what they are both thinking or going to do by just looking into each other’s eye. They can read each other's mind. You can feel their trust , loyalty, commitment, longing, and respect for each other.

Overall, this is one of the best wuxia dramas for me. I think I watched it 2 times when it was aired. There are lot of backslash on this drama especially when they compare it with the novel but since I didn’t read the novel and I always think of it as a stand-alone drama (not based on any novel or manga) I find this drama very interesting, I got hook instantly and fell in love.
This is my first drama of Xiao Zhan and from then on, I fell in love with him especially when I watched the BTS of the Untamed. He is so cute and playful. His looks is ethereal. And the way he portrays Wei Wu Xian is perfect. Honestly, I am a bit upset about his scandal previously. Not because of him its because of the crazy fans. They are freaking crazy that Xiao Zhan was almost cancelled in China even he didn’t do anything wrong. But Thankfully! he is very okay now, though he looks more distant and conservative now than before where he always looks he can do whatever he wants freely. Still! I am happy that he is doing well despite of what happen.❤️❤️❤️

MASTERPIECE

OMG where should I start? First of all if you haven't watched this drama then do it! BEST drama so far I've seen. The amazing cast, the intresting and amazing storyline, the visual effects, the OST and everything was just perfect.

(HEAVY SPOILERS!)
Started really intresting from Wei Wuxian's death and then jumping back to the past where everything started. Got to see both main leads background and how their friendship forged through the years. Their first meeting, then surviving life and death situations together and growing closer. I specialy loved Yan Li. She is adorable, and her care for Wei Wuxian is really precious. I felt so bad for her when she died :( I actually didn't had any thought about Jiang Cheng at the beginning but after Wei's reborn I hated him. He was so annyoing to his own "brother". Her mother was annyoing too when she appeared. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The story after the rebirth was intresting as well and never got boring. Let's talk about the ending. I shed tears when they parted ways :( but then we could "see" that they actually didn't left each other behind so I considert this as a happy ending :)

All together the best drama so far!

I didn't know of any of the cast members prior to watching "The Untamed" but I stumbled upon some comments while I was watching "Ashes of Love" (drama I also loved and turned me into a Luo Yunxi fan) and I was like, why not, let me give it a try.

I decided to watch "The Untamed" during lockdown, probably like a lot of other people out there. I was still a bit confused by the time I finished watching it the first time as the story line seem like it was missing some bits of information, so I watch it again and the pieces start to fall into place. I read the novel and like magic, the whole picture became clear. Just so I didn't miss anything I also watch the "Mo Dao Zu Shi - Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, which I enjoyed as well.

Now I am in the same bottomless pit as so many others who got addicted, watching it on a continuous loop (watching alongside other shows). I even bought the DVDs straight from China, just in case one day it disappears from all media platforms. I got it so bad that I even sign up for Weibo (and I don't even speak Chinese/Mandarin) just so I can follow up and see if they decide at some point to make a second season, not to mention keep an eye on Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo new releases and media info as I became their fan too :) Fingers crossed for season 2!

I don't think there is a cure for this...Did anyone who watched it manage to get away from this really unhealthy obsession? I need professional help!!! Oh, and a really big supply of tissues, please!!! I think I will need to watch this until one day I won't be able to shed one tear! Would I be cured then?

On a more serious note, these dramas exposed me to a wonderful culture, gorgeous sceneries, decors and costumes, not to mention drop-dead gorgeous actors/actresses; made me fall in love with lots of songs, not just Xiao Zhan, Wang Yibo and Luo Yunxi songs, and my list of great actors and singers is expanding daily. And for those inquiring minds, I love actresses too - Li Qin, Yang Zi, Bai Lu, etc.

Even if it is just for the hype around this drama and it is not your regular cup of tea, give it a try then come back and leave a comment. I am curious to see how many non-believers would hop on my wagon ;)
