Above Average BL Drama

I really loved this drama, mostly for the strong performances by the two leads played by Oreo and Strong. Their chemistry is terrific. I don't want to give away the plot but the second season ends on a tragic note, but sets the stage for another sequel where, I hope, the outcome we've been waiting for through nearly 30 episodes will be resolved. Like most of these dramas, this episodes seem heavily padded just for the sake of filling time. The plot is a refreshing departure from the formula of two guys in Engineering school. Oreo's character Pop is drawn as a bit of a gay cliche, being a little too interested in skin care and plush toys but thankfully Oreo plays him straight. Strong's character Oat is true to the BL formula in being mostly obnoxious to Pop. This is supposed to be his clumsy way of saying he likes Pop. Also to formula, there are endless scenes of our heroes crying and saying they're sorry to each other. The most interesting element in this drama is Pop and Oat really have more of a bromance going on and it raises some interesting questions about what it means for two guys to love each other in a platonic way. That's a very contemporary topic among men who identify as straight. There are obligatory gay stereotypes in the supporting cast. I guess those are suppose to provide the audience with almost cartoon comic relief to contrast the main characters. Happily, there isn't too much time wasted on those characters as the drama go on. I do hope there is a third sequel to resolve these stories as the audience hopes they'll end up. We have a lot invested in these characters.

I honestly can't believe this came out of the same writers' pen as the first season of What The Duck.

Maybe it didn't. Maybe it had different writers, different producers, a different production company. Maybe it came from a strange, horrible parallel universe where What The Duck was dark, twisted, disturbing and grimly unfunny.

Not that What The Duck's humour was its best quality. To state the obvious, some of season 1's most powerful moments were not typical campy Thai BL moments involving confused schoolboys, a Boy Sompob OST and a cut to a fish tank. Parts of season 1 were dark. But they were dark in a thoughtful and intelligent way that suggested the writers understood the theme they were trying to explore.

This season's darkness is shallow, almost trite, in its obvious shock value - a kind of second-rate gay soap opera designed to horrify you into watching more.

Assault,
Rape.
Abuse.
Incest.

It does not make me want to watch more. It makes me want to drop it. Which I have.

What a disappointing ending to the series.

I must say my feelings for WTD2 differs ????‍♂️from others listed in the comments. In my personal ????opinion I loved the storyline! I love the characters/actors they all did such a good ????convincing job in their roles. I never cried ????so much over a show before! Although I am very upset at how they ended season 2, I did truly love ❤️ and enjoy WTD2 Final Call.
Having said that how they ended the season was just extremely disappointing and unsatisfying ????. Each of the storylines for each character was left unanswered in a way that makes you think that the producers ran out of money ???? so the story was abruptly stopped ???? . Extremely frustrating ????to have such a good show without closing its storyline. My hats off to the cast for doing such a great job????. I do hope???? that you’ll all get back together and complete Season 2 the proper way and yes I even hope they’ll be more!!

*SPOILERS*

[also contains spoiler for together with me, bad romance characters]

Without having read the original story, I still figured half way through season 1 a perfect ending was probably not going to happen.... Pop’s reactions never hinted at truly giving in.... season 2 was disgusting though....

IF pree/rambo line had been filmed outside of the BL umbrella, it might have had a better reception and got to season 2’s drug/sex parties without being so tasteless. If you want to take a close but fictionalized review of the drug/unsafe sex LGBTQ subculture, just watch Queer as Folk (US) and follow the Ted Schmidt storyline. He takes a painful journey of drugs and unsafe sex (with tenuous consent) and the consequences of putting yourself in a shady situation.

I would rather watch Korn cheat on Knock again before finishing season 2 of this show.

In this season (Final Call), I can say that it was a heartbreaking scene with Pop and Oat. It's hard to move on. To be honest, I skipped the other scenes due to the sex and drugs scene. I just focused on the story of Pop and Oat. In this season I can't control my emotions with Pop and Oat. It's very very hard for me. I really feel the pain they went through. In the story of Pop and Oat, I saw here the true meaning of love. Oat chose to become a monk for the sake and dreams of his beloved Pop as a steward even though it is really hard for him.

In terms of romance. I really love their stories, From the first season, it was super "kilig" and comedy. But in this season OMG, it's opposite more on drama and really I really can’t stop my emotions from crying. I can't breathe as in

I'm looking forward to season 3 if any. I'm so excited to find out what was inside the box they buried and they will open it after 10 years as their promises.

Really LOVE is SACRIFICE. That's it.

-----
PS. We already know that there are many ways in letting go of the person we love that are not too painful but they chose that.
