It was so dramatic the storyline the events were all perfectly done .
- But in case you've read the novel , I heard that they changed the storyline & the ending .
The lead actress Ren Min " Yi Yao" was AMAZING ! everything about her facial expression her gaze really i was so impressed .
Gu Sen Xi was an amazing supporter for Yi Yao , I liked his character .
The whole production the story the acting the cinematography is well done , but if only they made the movie a bit longer like to show the bullying scenes not just flashes of what happened to her and also so we know what happened at the end after all these events .. but still it has a decent ending .
I am really excited for the drama version am not sure if they will follow the novel or not .
Anyway , I highly recommend watching the movie , for me it is the best movie of this year .

You can feel the Characters feelings on what they have been through this trial in life. This portrays bullying in school and wihat will possibly happen to the bullied.
The Story tells that Bullying will result a bad effect if not prevented immediately and will cause the bullied to think that life is too unfair.
I have checked the Cast background and they are new stars.
Cry me a Sad River is their First Movie
The Cast did a great job in portarying the characters especially Ren Mi(Yi Yao).
Ren Mi(Yi Yao) was so great that you can see her feelings everytime she is shown.
Zhao Ying Bu(Qi Ming) His acting was good and clean.
Xin Yun Lai(Gu Sunxi) He was the best man in this Movie. The acting is great and he potrays the character well.
The others was also good since they support the story very well.
The Music is so touching that it shows up at the right time and at the right moment in thescenes that will make you sad while watching it. You feel like you want to cry.
I watched this alone and will probably watch it again with my Bestfriend. He will absolutely Cry.
So as you can see this movie the first movie that made me cry this year(2018)
You should really watch it.

Good story, bad execution
So, I really wanted to love this one. I had heard nice things about it and the ratings were quite high. I think the director's intent was good and I liked the story, but everything felt so rushed. I found myself often confused about what was going on. I think part of it was the execution and part of it was cultural aspects I did not understand or that were lost in translation. What I liked the most about this story was Ren Mi's acting as Yi Yao. It felt really realistic and she did portray a lot of raw emotions. That one scene with her monologue towards the end was beautifully written and acted. Overall, I think this movie has a beautfully heartbreaking message, but things were too rushed for me to really appreciate the heaviness and the sadness of this story. Was this review helpful to you?

Watch it at your own discretion. I cried buckets during this movie. I cried for Yi Yao, for Sun Xi, for Sunxiang and even for Qi Ming. This kind of life does exist, such things do happen to people. Despite many people criticizing Guo JingMing;s stories, this one really hits a chord in your heart. I don't want to go in case I spoil the story too much. At first I admit (after seeing the trailer) I was really expecting Qi Ming to help Yi Yao out but half way through the story I got what an actual coward he was. Through out the story you could get that he was just a teenager who made stupid decisions while despite the antics he pulled, Sun Xi is actually matured for his age. He knew it wasn't Yi Yao's fault and he actually cared for her. One might think he found Qi Ming to be a rat cuz Yi Yao and his sister both liked him and the brotherly love for his sister and the jealousy cuz of Yi Yao made him not like Qi Ming but the truth is he was the only one who actually saw Qi Ming for the true person he was. Which was a coward. Qi Ming actually didn't deserve any of the two girls. Both were far superior to him.
Like I said this story would make you cry and really think of the stuff people actually go through. One of the biggest plus point is the acting of all these newcomers. This is a movie with a whole new set of newbies who are doing an excellent job at portraying their roles. The dark cinematography compliments the story perfectly and the OST. Believe me the OST in the movie is one of the reasons to watch it, It is simply beautiful. You will not regret watching this beautiful yet tragic piece.

"Did you kill someone? Today, you are all killers"
This movie is not perfect and don't watch this if you are too soft or don't truly understand the importance of bullying. This movie talks about the hardship of a young girl who has a disease in her sensitive part of the body and how pathetic people thinks. You will get a lot of lesson in this movie and you will understand the feeling of those who experienced bullying. Watch this if you want to feel sad or cry.

Really beautifully done movie! It really showed the harmful consequences of bullying and the mindset of those bullies who think that what they did was "just a joke" or looking back as adults, they just "forgot" what happened. The scene where Yi Yao yells at her classmates from the seaside, telling them she knows her murderers, was left such an impact. Even though some people did bring up how some scenes seemed a bit rushed, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The cast did a superb job at bringing their characters to life. Their facial expressions were on point- I love the actor who played Gu Sen Xi! That smile, that attitude, everything! I especially love how at the end, he changes how he defines his name to the "Xi" is from the sun rising from the West. LOVED IT. The actress, Ren Min, who played Yi Yao was just as great! She brought me to tears with her scenes. I can't believe all these actors are rookies??
Besides that, I can't forget to mention how AMAZE-ing the OST is. They really brought the sadness, all the emotion, in certain heavy scenes to life, making them even sadder. This one lyric from one OST really touched me. "Youth is like an IV drop, slowly dripping away."

I'm pretty disappointed, but to each their own opinion
I truly do not understand how this movie is so highly rated and how there are good reviews. I am by no means usually a harsh movie critique, in fact I like bad movies sometimes. However this was just painfully awful. The pacing was basically non-existent, almost all of the most important plot points were told through messy montages, the line reading felt so weird to me, I'm just a bit disappointed to be honest. I was really excited because I saw a clip of the attempted suicide and thought it would be very thought provoking and sad, however I actually laughed at how poor the movie was executed at times. The tone was all over the place, and overall everything just felt like a weird fever dream, and not a good one. If you like this movie then by all means your opinion is fair, I'm just kind of shocked. Was this review helpful to you?
The movie was a great way to show how serious mental health, bullying and false accusation is..
As a viewer, this really gives a good value.. wait till you watch this.. You'll not cry a river, but an ocean..
Ending was okay tho.. It was an open ending, but you'll be satisfied..

Endless suffering like a river;)
Cry me a sad river, flowing through the heart of a teenager, endless in its pain, sorrow, suffering, and agony. The river runs deep within, its currents heavy with the burdens of youth.Ren Min's portrayal of Yi Yao was absolutely phenomenal! Her facial expressions had such a depth and emotion that I was truly impressed.
Qi Ming is the most uncalled character, bro was pretty much a jerk, in the name of her childhood bestie.
Gu Sen Xi was my favourite character, he was an wholesome support to Yi Yao; I liked his character, their bonding and story line altogether.
❌ The backstory related to the main message of the movie was brushed off in flashbacks which made it extremely disappointing and confusing as I couldn't emotionally connect to the suffering of the character.
❌ Inconsistency and no proper closure to certain story lines.
Overall, I did enjoy the movie, but I wished everything wasn't so fast forwarded and was more detailed. Still worth a shot!
7.7/10

the plot was basically a chain of convenient events. girl likes boy, boy is nice to another girl, girl feels jealous and starts bulling other girl while guy is actually flirting with a 3rd girl ;/
I feel like if Xiao Mi bullied Yi Yao becasue she saw her get bullied by other people would've made more sense..
also, both Qi Ming and Yi Yao lived in the same exact neighborhood like 2 feets apart so I don't get why his parents were acting high and mighty..
and he was the worst of all, which was basically bad writings fault, he was friends with her but he never noticed she was bullied that severely? and he was in the same class as her. why? becasue he was so "in love" with Sen Xiang that he basically abandoned his childhood friend ;/
Gu Sen Xi was a cutie and the sweet type of ml that needs to be done more often. he was friendly yet awkward, and he was always there for Yi Yao. though they needed more, more depth to everything.
something I liked about these highschool chinese movies is that their actors are actually believable as teenage, I don't know if it's just becasue their fls are tiny and short or the fact that they film in a more zoomed fashion but I hate 20 or 30 year olds that look fit for uni act as highschoolers ;)
that running scene made no sense. (minor spoiler) the girl had coffee spilled on her and next scene she was chased by 3 shadows in an abandon area.. like how did she get there and why? (plus the subs didn't cover the texts so I kinda got lost on that part ;D)
the dubbing was so artificial they lost alot of emotions and they were plain robotic so I deducted that from "music", plus their ost was louder than their conversations.
I never rewatch stuff so it's either 1 or 10

But this movie...
I was literally tied to the screen. No pink fluffy romance but nevertheless it goes straight to the heart.
The story was basically "nothing new", but the acting and the way they portrayed the characters in such a short time, make the movie fantastic. No long time wasted on unecessary dialogues, because mostly the facial expressions speak for them. It dont feel overdramated.
I dont like open endings this much, but it fits to the movie.
---> You should really give it a try. It is one of my favourite chinese movies.
