Even though it is short, I also love the phasing of the story. It does not feel like ot was crammed.
Overall, I think The Effect has its own moral of the story and I really really liked it. Give it a watch!

Good way of telling a story
!!!! R@PE, SPOILERS !!!!A lot of people warned me for this series, i was glad they did.
This series shows that life is not always good and happy, There are a lot of things that is around the world.
The story is about a boy who has a sort of crush on a boy in his school,
And they met because the boy forgot something.
They become sort of friends and they spend time together
Then the drama happens.
The boy dont likes the boy from his school.
So the other boy gets mad and r@pes him
I don’t like that this happens but this series shows it in a good way and it doesn’t get romantized.

Very emotional
I watched a fmv of this short series and so I thought I was going in knowing what was going to happen, but boy was wrong. The emotional toll this took on me was crazy. I that everyone should watch this and see the effects that social media has on people.Throughout the series I was watching this and I kept talking to myself and saying I hate this one character and I think that goes to show how great their acting was and the story itself was really great and something I think everyone should see and experienc.

The effect... of a trauma
At first I didn't want to watch it, because love stories aren't really a priority to me, but got convinced by the "self harm" tags (I like these controversial and impactful topics). Turns out this is not a BL and has nothing romantic in it.The acting was strange. In the first episode I felt like the main leads were a little bit inexperienced, but in the other two episodes their perfomance was flawless. I don't know if it was just an impression or something.
So the plot is really interesting, because at first you have absolutely no idea how everything is going to develop. Starts out pretty normal with the two main leads slowly getting closer to each other. Then everything escalates quite rapidly. It really shows how people affect you in different ways: how the expectations of Keng's parents affect his behaviour, how the rape affects Shin's mental health and how everyone's perception of Keng changes because of his actions.
The show is extremely realistic. I really felt Shin's trauma and I loved how, towards the end, they showed how things developed for everyone, leaving Shin to meditate on how things could have been different if it hadn't been for his trauma.
The ending is also nice. It's an open ending that some might not like. I just wish it was less enigmatic, because I have so many interpretations for it and I don't know which one is correct.
I'd absolutely recommend it.

The series starts off very bright and optimistic, but later takes a dark turn in episode two. If you're looking for a romance BL, search somewhere else because this show is basically unrequited love gone wrong. Despite only being three episodes, I felt my heart literally ache so many times. Compared to other shows, I think it gives a rather good idea of what rape victims have to actually deal and struggle with. However, if you're uncomfortable with issues/scenes concerning rape, suicide, and self-harm, I would suggest avoiding this show.
I felt the ending was fine. I don't know why I saw comments saying they were surprised/shocked? It felt it was more of a question mark that was meant to be left alone.
All in all, there was a lot of substance in this series despite being only three episodes long. Would definitely recommend everyone to watch it. I wouldn't want this series to have a sequel, but I honestly wouldn't mind a show about Bright and Pramote :)

And I love how realistic Kengs behavior was after when he's still trying to get Shin back, practically blackmailing him and blaming everyone but himself and still saying he loves Shin. Typically sociopathic narcissist behavior.
And the problem which I think that ending really emphasized was that it's obvious Shin still has feelings for him.
Just screwed up.
And honestly James was always cute in LBC but now he's playing this part so well, you can see the pain and desolation in his eyes. Even Oat played his role well.
Definitely a good drama.

How could they. This ending. WHAT WAS THAT. Now i won't be able to sleep because i will be thinking who got hitted by a car (i hope it was King, not my baby). It's like through these 3 episodes whe are watching Shin's suffering and then when he got better they made us think that he may died by a car accident. In my opinion it was totally unusefull. It didn't make story better. It made it worse. This car accident was totally out of nowhere, without context and it has nothing to the story. It just made me mad and dissapointed T-T Was this review helpful to you?
Damn! Heartbreaking but Excellent.
Warning! This is not a romance in any way shape or form. Possible triggers! This is dark, tragic, heartbreaking and raw. The series doesn't shy away from or gloss over extremely sensitive & difficult to tackle subjects/topics, including; Rape, Sexual Assault, Suicide, Homophobia, Bullying & Depression, Assault & Violence etc. The series handles these difficult storylines tastefully, with care & compassion, whilst still realistically portraying the suffering of victims.
It really is worth a watch!
P.S - That ending though.......DAMN! - I never saw that coming!

Highly recommend but...
So I will definitely recommend this! I will say there is a biggggg trigger warning !! The story line 8/10. It has a huge turn that I never expected which was depressing so again a huge trigger warning for this . The casting in my opinion was perfect, 10/10 acting ! I’m also really hoping for a season 2 because the ending is not satisfying enough for me . ): if you want to cry, definitely watch this . I love how much the BestFriends of Shin is there for him , I’ve never seen a friendship like theirs (:Was this review helpful to you?

DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID
I ll start off by saying i did read the description of this drama beforehand so i had an idea of what i was in for. The story got 5 stars only because i understand what they were trying to show. This drama can actually traumatize someone. It doesnt matter if you have PTSD or not, this WILL affect you. Honestly, when i watch dramas, movies or whatever, i watch them to enjoy them. I didnt enjoy this. I dont even know how you could enjoy it. The acting was chefs kiss, they re good actors because if they werent, i wouldnt have been in a state of shock while watching it. Im not the type of person to be mean or to hate on a show, but i am very honest. Why would you make a bl drama with r*pe and show every little detail of it ? I ve seen other dramas with this genre, but they never showed such EXPLICIT scenes. After i watched it, i couldnt even move for some time. Im not being dramatic, this is how horrible it was. You can portray this type of assault in many other ways to not make people have nightmares afterwards. In conclusion, my honest advice is to not watch it. I know you probably will because of curiosity, but from the bottom of my heart, dont do it. I cant understand how a human being can enjoy seeing r*pe and su**ide play out right in front of them. Was this review helpful to you?

i have a lot of things to say about the effect. first, i'd like to mention the production and directing because in my opinion these two things were very well done. second, the acting was really good (especially james, this boy deserves an award). the characters are another thing that i really liked about this series, as they were very real and let me enjoy the story a little more.
now, the reason why i decided to right a review: how the series deals with the subject of r*pe. i've seen a lot of people saying they didn't like the series because of the scene, and i get it, it wasn't necessary, however, it didn't upset me. how they dealed with the whole subject was way better than all the other series that talk about it. they made it clear is a bad thing, but that wasn't all. he's life wasn't destroyed by it, shin still had friends and family who that loved him deeply.
keng is fucked up and they let you see that. it's clearly not a love story. keng has issues and he was mentally unstable. bright and pramote were my absolute favorite in this. they were the best friends ever, and they gave a little spark of puppy love to the story opposing all the heavy drama with shin, which made it more light so you wouldn't feel as bad.
despite everything good i've said, i don't the effect should be considered a bl series. yes, there are gays characters but there is no bl romance.
i liked the series and i recommend everyone to watch it, if you aren't triggered by the subjects touched in the story.
