Likeable Characters

This was a light watch, no angst, supposed evil characters turned out likeable. The story was actually not all fluff, although they were cutesy and rebellious during high school, everyone had a dream that they were serious and worked hard for to succeed. I especially liked the relationship of the Blue Dragon Gang - very supportive of each other.

Character Likes:

Ding Ming - loyal and honest with her feelings and did not let those feelings come in between their friendship. She is very cool on how she handles herself.

Bai Yu Ze - flirty but honest, as he said, he does not secretly flirt and fraternize, he does it openly LOL. Outside of that you can see that he is a caring person. I thought I was going to have second lead syndrome - did not happen. I was actually rooting for him and Ding Ming right from the start. I'm happy for them :-) I wish they had more scenes and interaction as a confirmed couple. I do hope I see him in a drama as the lead soon.

Xiong Yi Fan - her character was alright, it is what it is, instead I would mention that I find Wan Peng's acting good. She goes from cutesy, tomboyish to serious and emotional. She's very pretty too.

Yan Ke - his character is also what it is, I guess the story or the script calls for it. He was super slow in the beginning but he made up for it towards the last episodes.

Qi Xiao Song - 1/3 of the Blue Dragon Gang who I thought was going to be a silly character, surprisingly (which was nice) he wasn't. He was a comedic relief but was mature when the situation called for it.

i like riley his acting skills and handsomeness is real, he deserve to have more lead role and beautiful leading lady...

i watch him in i hear you his kinda dragging there :)) LOL

but overall in this series i like him at first u will get board but it the end its ok but its distract me the lead girl weng...

basta hindi siya bagay as lead star and ndi siya kagandahan para pagkaguluhan sa series noh!!!

Sweet slow burn college romance

Yifan is an athlete (javelin) and former tomboy who goes to college and discovers her high school crush, Yan Ke is there. Will they become a couple?

Opinion:
Sweet slow burn college romance. Yes there are love triangles and artificial misunderstandings that keep the two leads apart (there are 24 episodes to fill after all). But, what elevates this particular romantic drama for me is (1) two leads clearly do like each other from the get go and you get to see the reasons they like each other develop over time and not just insta-love and (2) strong female lead. Yes, she is inexperienced in love and clueless at reading signals BUT she has her own firm opinions and dreams, and is a fully fleshed character independent of her crush on the male lead. I also love that she isn’t “weak” and helpless, eg., there is a scene very early in the drama where there is a school sporting event and she ends up slinging the male lead over her shoulder and running him to the finish line. The male lead is handsome but more than a pretty face - he is pursuing his own dream of becoming a pianist.

There is also a strong supporting cast of characters, including Yifan’s two best friends from high school and the second lead (photography student and playboy), whose stories are also enjoyable to follow. I’m loving the drama so far though the second female lead has yet to make an appearance so we will see how that goes... Recommended so far!

- A bit too simple for some people, but I like how simple the drama is, I love how ordinary their love is. They like each other and chases in each other in their own way( which lead to many failures before they unite isn't this always happen irl tho I think this part is realistic). This drama emphasizes no matter how much you show that you like someone in the end you better clarify it by say it to them, expression is not enough. My fav scene is the proposal scene most of the drama always makes proposal scene a grand scene with many preparation but just like the how the simple drama is even the proposal scene was so simple they do it on impulse but they mean it at the moment how sweet was that ❣️ (the ring made from paper is love). Loving the ML and FL chemistry so much wishing that they will have another drama together if possible.

Would you regret watching this? DEFINITELY NO! (I'm betting)

I'm telling you that if you ever need a type of fresh air in your watching list, if you love romance, comedy (a real laughing stocks), good looking female and male cast yep you're definitely on the right drama! Like you can't hate anyone in this drama, you'll love all of their characters! If you ever felt like wanting to fall in love, just watch this you will exactly be like me crying cause you felt soooo single watching riley wang and wan peng :') no, not just them but also the second couple! I love how they put small details on the act and story, there's no unnecessary plotting in the flow. Something happened because there's something connected to it. Not like typical c-drama I usually watched, where there's too many scene that's unnecessary. This one, I love everything about it. Also I'm not only recommending you to watch the drama but also the behind the scene! Its like another romance drama hahaha I DEMAND SECOND SEASON PLEASE!

Beautiful drama

Wan Peng and Riley Wang made an excellent role. Their characters in this drama are very awesome! ❤️ ?Love them so much. Hope they will make another another drama soon.

I like how Riley treat Wan Peng even behind the scenes. He is one of the most supportive characters I have ever seen in dramas. And I really admire Wan Peng from the beginning since from her first drama. Her character in every drama was pretty awesome. She's the only Chinese actress im in love most. I really don't like Chinese drama but it totally changed when i watched her dramas " My Girlfriend is an alien" and "When we were young" and then the "First Romance"

Love from Philippines

Great show! Added to my favorites for watching again!

Sorry this is long but I really liked this show. And so I have to tell you why.

First of all, Riley Wang has really grown in his acting. I first saw him in “I Hear You” and fell in love with the show even though I felt the acting lacked a bit and he was not really playing the violin and it showed (I know because I have a daughter who plays and you can see he is not playing the high notes or moving fast enough to match the music). But I don’t dis the show because of that! It is a good show worth the watch... ok back to this show. I love him in this! He did a great job.

Second, the main actress also did a great job! She is a cutie and can act! I thought she was perfect for this part and her and Riley had great chemistry.

Third, the storyline was really good and well written. It flowed smoothly. I did not skip anything or get bored with any of it. And this show really surprised me! I really thought “Hear we go again... the parents are going to object to them?!” Ha! So surprised! It was nice to see the parents be “real” in their reactions to meeting them and accepting their children’s love for each other. I also thought, again, “Hear we go again?”... another show where they break up because she got injured and did not want to hold him back from pursuing his piano career. I was about to turn it off. And I did for a day. I really did not want to watch another show of immature idiots. If you really love someone and something happens to you you communicate with them and let them help you work through it. Trust me I have been married long enough to know communication is really important in any relationship! Ok back to the show... I was pleasantly surprised with this show and how it was written. Thank goodness it was a nice mature relationship and they stayed together and worked through their problems and worries. So I gave this show 10/10 because of that and how well it flowed. If I had one complaint... and this goes for more shows than this one... I really get tired of them not making it perfectly clear to the person who they are not and never will be interested in that they need to stop and move on really clearly. It drives me nuts!! And I know why they wrote it the way they did, but sometimes it is maddening!?

Rewatch? Yep! Already in my favorites on Viki. Such a good show and also, love the music! Go see it! It is worth the watch or 2, or 3, or more times!?

The best C-drama ever

This is the best C-drama I've watched in my whole life. Loved it. I suggest you this drama. This drama has many jealousy, romantic, funny and heart touching scenes which makes our heart flutter. This drama also have a lot of misunderstanding scenes. But those are the main reason which made me watch this drama. Today I finished watching this whole drama. You guys should definitely watch this. You'll fall in love with the characters once you get to know them. The main characters are so cute. The hero is a pianist. The heroine is a javelin thrower. This is a spectacular and heart touching drama. Loved it a lot ??

Such a unique drama

I have seen most of wang peng's drama and this is the Best One ever, she can get into the character and be one with the character. This drama is so unique and their chemistry is incredible on screen and off screen , specially with the theme music I always get goosebumps . I can watch this drama more than 10 times. Amazing characters and we all are looking forward for another drama with Wang Peng and Diley Wang in a positive way . I loved this drama and I recommend everyone to watch it atleast once because if u start watching it u will definitely watch it again and again .

This was my 33rd completed drama from mainland China. It is the 5th to score at least 9/10. It was really, really good!

Above all, it was the intelligent writing. This was a youth romcom, of which China seems determined to produce one for each of its 1.3 billion citizens. Unsurprisingly, most of them are indistinguishable forgettable clones when they are not excruciatingly awful. But when they get it right, they've REALLY get it right.

This drama respected and played by the tropes of the genre, but it did so with a gently amused and affectionate self-awareness. It had fun with the tropes, but it didn't mock them. It acknowledged the inherent silliness of the romcom tropes, but thanks to the chemistry of the leads and the gentle wit of the writing (at least as it came across in the subs I saw), this remained sweet and surprisingly insightful.

One of the obvious markers of difference for this drama is in the appearance of the female lead played by Wan Peng. Most of the cookie-cutter C dramas have interchangeable clones for their leads. At least eight out of every 10 female leads in this sort of drama looks like an ad for surgical perfection. Ms Wan on the other hand has a face which seems to have had little if any knife work, and perhaps even more remarkably she has noticeably imperfect teeth. I absolutely loved this. That she hadn't been airbrushed or surgically transformed made it easier to accept her delivery of her character, and it was a great character.

A lot of C dramas are at best patronisingly chauvinistic, and at worst misogynistic, in the way they treat the female leads – as delicate flowers who need to be protected. Often this is reflected in the excruciating dubbing that they use - some high-pitched childlike voice regardless of the actor's own voice or the appearance of the actor, the need to show the female lead is some sort of adult. This drama on the other hand showed the female lead picking the male lead up and carrying him on her shoulders. There was a whole arc in the middle of the drama celebrating the right of strong, fit, athletic women to be proud of who they are regardless of the narrowminded gossip that might be generated.

Right to the end this drama made me laugh and made me love the leads. The only reason I scored it 9/10 is because it should have been 20 episodes not 24. A little nip and tuck of the drama itself would have enhanced it. The other slight failing is not a much really a flaw just something I would have loved to have seen. I would have given the drama more points had the drama had a little bit more courage. It celebrated the strength of women who are strong physically strong athletic independent who can stand up for themselves and others. That was awesome, and I loved it. But the drama could have taken it a little bit further, could have really set itself well above the rest if it had demonstrated just a tiny bit more courage by doing something I have yet to see in this sort of drama.

There is a situation where the female lead faces a life changing challenge. Something happens that threatens her whole sense of identity and everything she's worked for. She gets through it, and the male leaders wonderfully supportive et cetera et cetera but it would have been really awesome if the lead who suffered that life changing challenge to their sense of identity in their goals and purpose in life had been the MALE lead. It's not that the male lead rescued the female lead, but she was the one that was threatened with losing everything that mattered most to and he supported her. Had the drama flipped THAT trope it would have been 9 1/2 at least.

In summary if you want to see what a romcom can be when it's done right, watch this drama!
