During an unexpected power outage at Horizon tower, the resident of no. 2003, Zhong Mei Bao, is murdered. The police begin their investigations from Xie Bao Luo, the security guard who found the body. Xie Bao Luo is a security guard but five years before, he was a university graduate, working at a bank, getting ready to get married and start a family. Until he hit a woman with his car. The woman's family is very poor and cannot pay the hospital expenses, feeling sorry and guilty, Xie Bao Luo helps them. Despite his fiance's protests and evidence that the family might be swindling him, he decides to pay a 300,000 yuan damages money to them. However, the family does not stop there and they still call him with requirements for money. When he refuses, they sue him anyway and he is due to pay almost two million yuan to them. In light of this, he loses all his savings, his job, and his fiance. He met Zhong Mei Bao on her arrival day at Horizon Tower during another power outage two years before and helped her with her luggage. He told her his life story and she felt very sorry for him. They became friends, according to Xie Bao Luo. Detective Zhong does not trust Xie Bao Luo and his story and questions his relationship with Zhong Mei Bao and the authenticity of his story about his past life.
