This is definitely a MUST see drama. You will LOVE it!

You will not regret watching this drama. Every aspect of the drama production is done to perfection. Compared to similar Chinese dramas, this specific storyline is rather unique. The costumes and CGI were above my expectations. Also, you can't forget the acting. All the actors and actresses presented their roles very nicely. Wang Hedi's acting has made me fall in love with him once again. I can't imagine anyone else playing Dongfang Qingcang besides Didi. Esther Yu's acting was also on point. Her cuteness and cleverness fit XLH's role perfectly. To be honest, I know that some people find her voice annoying but that was not the case for me. I appreciate her effort to dub her own voice. I know that it takes a few months of effort to do the dubbing. Overall, this is one of the best dramas that I have seen all these years.

Forbidden Love in its purest form

I dig this. The acting, wardrobe/hair, CGI, and plot, are all outstanding even just the 10 eps in. I personally am fond of the lead's performances that perfect the dynamic of good vs evil, soft vs hard, dark vs light.. People are attacking the FL over her portrayal of innocent annoyance, but it is all in line to what this story is about. FORBIDDEN LOVE/ROMANCE/FRIENDSHIP amongst opposite personalities from opposite worlds.

This is only the beginning [ep 10/36] and I already am rooting for both sides through the treachery hidden in the god's and the devil's circle. Both have to watch their backs over their own people . I want Dongcang to protect Orchid from Rong and the king, and I want Zhang heng to redeem himself in her eyes. I want her to stay in the devil realm and also go back home.

This emotionally puzzling feeling of rooting for both sides (but mostly fl/ml) is really exciting. Dylan Wang's skill in body language, eye language and expressions are dangerously good in playing a dark lord. He is the standout for me in this series. Also, Though Esther has to play such a role, she does it well and quickly grows on you. She is lovely, brave, and good hearted... There is so much more story to unravel and I'm excited waiting on each ep drop.

I am rating this 9.5 simple because it's not over yet.

I LOVE IT SO MUCH

Ahhhh i love ittt!! It's really cute and light. I love how ML is already the strongest, and can save the FL. He's different from other male leads. To be honest, the SML in here resembles most xianxia male leads - that good guy who has big responsibility to protect the realm etc etc, the good-natured guy who should protect the world before his woman etc.

I just love it! DFQC is so baddass and handsome and XLH is so cute. I personally love Esther's voice. I find her 'naturally cute', unlike others who look forced to me.

The chemistry in this drama is ?!!! Chef's kisses. They look so perfect together and harmonious, if
y'know what I meant.

I love the music in here. It all fits my taste.

The CGI is top-notch. The drama looks colorful and visually stunning. Also the costumes, is just pure perfection for me.

I'm certain I can watch this nonstop all over again. I've been rewatching the episodes while waiting for the next release.

This drama may not be everyone's taste, but this fits mine, so yeah! This is 10/10 for me ;))))))

Quite boring

Honestly, when i started to watch this drama i had a great expectation, the scenery is pretty and the acting is quite good. But as long as i watched more episodes it just felt like i was watching the same one. Then when they got into the human world it started to feel a lil more excting, but then the flower semeed to be another person, her personality changed a lot (at least, that's how it seemed to me). I got frustrared at some point that i coudnt keep going on, really dissapointing. I won't say every thing is unworthy, as i said before, when they entered the mortal world it was cool, but still not enough to save it.

My Favourite Chinese Drama

I was not even a fan historical/ultra fantasy dramas before but omg.. watching Love Between a Fairy and a Devil while also simultaneously watching Alchemy of Souls has blown my mind. I am seriously in awe and now I NEED MORE ?

The plot was amazing and they couldn't have chosen a better cast, yeah in the previous few episodes it got a bit slow because there were more scenes of others but between the last week and this week, they more than made up for it! The chemistry between leads is phenomenal, I really want to see them together in more dramas. Lastly I wish we could have gotten a little more in the ending or like a bonus episode but still, overall, I LOVED IT ?

Best Xianxia Drama of 2022

I don't usually write reviews for the dramas I watch, but LBFAD just deserves the praise and recognition. I have a hard time getting into xianxia dramas, and I usually end up dropping them halfway. So far, the only exceptions I have to this are Ashes of Love, TMOPB, and now, LBFAD. Esther and Dylan portrayed XLH and DFQC perfectly. Their chemistry is off the charts and their acting in the emotional scenes were done really well. LBFAD is a really enjoyable, lighthearted watch especially for the first few episodes. The story gets a bit angsty around episode 30 to 34 but is still pretty good. They tied up any loose ends quite nicely in episode 35, but felt that the ending was a bit short. ? I was hoping for more sweet moments between the main couple in the end. Aside from the story, the sets and costumes are also very beautiful and the drama OST is so good. I've been playing it nonstop for the past few weeks now. Overall, LBFAD has become one of my favorite shows and is definitely worth a rewatch.

My singular MDL review, because I never review but LBFaD is the best Chinese drama I've watched

I'm not the biggest drama watcher, and my principle is to not rate anything as I'm not a fair critique. But LBFaD was simply such an enjoyable and fun watch that this will likely forever be my only review ever, even if only to show how much I loved the drama. All 10/10 stars for me; any flaw can be looked over and is overall understandable. The only downside for me is a slight pacing issue and choppy feel, which is sadly common in Chinese dramas. I look forward to watch other dramas by the cast!

An Unforgettable and Moving Story with Captivating Themes of Love, Triumph, and Transformation!

This show was absolutely phenomenal, captivating me from start to finish with its stunning visuals and emotional depth. Several scenes moved me to tears, and the storyline was rich and intriguing, keeping me fully engaged throughout. The casting choices were spot on, with each actor bringing their character to life in a way that felt authentic and compelling. Dylan Wang’s performance as Dongfang Qing Cang was nothing short of phenomenal. He effortlessly portrayed the intensity and depth of his character’s journey, while Esther Yu’s portrayal of Orchid beautifully complemented the ever-evolving nature of Dongfang Qing Cang. Their chemistry on screen was magnetic, creating a dynamic that was both powerful and heartfelt.

The show’s exploration of themes like self-discovery and healing was deeply resonant, setting the stage for even more complex themes such as redemption and forgiveness. Watching the male lead undergo multiple stages of transformation, each one more challenging and painful than the last, added a layer of realism and emotional weight to the narrative. The way the show symbolized pain as an essential part of the healing process was brilliantly executed, offering viewers a profound look into the intricacies of shadow work and personal growth. It was refreshing to see a story that doesn’t shy away from the hard truths associated with healing but instead embraces them in such an artistic and thoughtful manner.

Ultimately, the rebirth of Orchid and Dongfang Qing Cang was a powerful culmination of their journeys. Their transformation into a couple who emerged stronger and more united after facing numerous trials felt incredibly rewarding to witness. The show beautifully illustrated how vulnerability can become a source of strength, and the evolving relationship between Orchid and Dongfang Qing Cang highlighted the transformative power of opening up to one another. Their love story wasn’t just about romance; it was a story of growth, acceptance, and mutual healing.

This show exceeded all my expectations. The script, cast, and soundtrack came together to create a truly immersive experience that left a lasting impression on me. It has become one of my comfort shows—one that I return to again and again, simply because it’s that awesome! The emotional depth and artistry displayed make it a must-watch, and I can’t recommend it enough!

HOLY SMOKE WHAT A DRAMA

This drama was really amazing and sooooo well done that i binged watched over a weekend!!!

I loved everything about it the leads the costumes the story line the plots the scenery everything that it had i LOVED IT.

Love Between Fairy and Devil is a xianxia drama, which narrates the story of forbidden love between a devil and a fairy., boy did DW pull off the whole Devil look to the highest point, his acting his expressions his costumes everything he did in this drama well worth and possibly more than a 10 . I also love how the drama sets a certain persona and design for each tribe and realm meticulously. For instance, in the fairy realm, the gods use bright and light outfits and headpieces with overexposure to the lighting. The fairy realm has a very heavy element of the Chinese culture, meanwhile, the demon/ moon realm has a hint of medieval elements in its location, outfits and more. The drama team also paid attention to those small actors/extras like the guards, their outfit is not sloppy, it is fitting to the overall persona they set. Such as the moon palace guards has dark and big outfit which looks intricate!

OSTs [10/10] —
One of the best parts of this drama is those musical scores. There is one for every situation ;)

◍ "Parting Love" (诀爱) - Faye Chan (the stunning illustrations we get for this intro song and the voice! I have never skipped this honestly, it turns out to be my favorite song from this drama, everytime it's played for the leads, it adds a special magic to their chemistry)

◍ "The Oath of Canglan" (苍兰契) - Li Changchao (the song for both Dongfang hellfire and orchid's first powers as well. I love how the singer shifts to a different pitch in middle and the upbeat music behind is just my style, my second favorite)

◍ "Loss of Memory" (失忆) - Yu Shuxin
◍ "Looking For You" (寻一个你) - Liu Yuning
◍ "Shore" (彼岸) - Jing Long & Jing Di
◍ "Longing" (念) - Shuang Sheng
◍ "I Still Remember That Day" (我还记得那天) - Shen Yi Cheng
◍ "I Want To Be With You" (想和你) - Yu Shuxin & Dylan Wang
◍ "Remaining Love" (余情) - Zhou Shen (smoothly ending every episode with his angelic voice)

The Visuals were amazing and set the tone of each episode or character that was been played at the time every realm is uniquely detailed and fleshed out, from makeup to forms of magic used to costumes, interior design, architecture, and customs.

Overall: This drama well worth watching if not for DW but for the story in itself ... Think i will do go a rewatch, as i have not come across any other of this type to grab me so..

Best Xianxia drama of the last t years

I am not good with words. So sometimes saying little is best. I am not exaggerating by saying is the best drama in it's genre for a while. The time spent for the cinematography is well spent, the actors went above and beyond, I think the best roles they have done in all their careers. Anyway it is a drama worth watching and re-watching. The story is really well written and it is perfectly told in it's length.

Anyway I wish that Esther and Dylan do another drama together their chemistry was off the charts and its been a while since I saw a couple so comfortable with each other.

Solid and fun romance fantasy that stumbles at the final hurdle

A fun show that's fairly romance heavy and light on the angst.

Pros:
- Both leads are gorgeous.
- Well-paced drama that, in my opinion, never drags.
- Plenty of fun moments like body switching, going to the human realm, powerful magic spells etc. but these beats never last so long as to outstay their welcome.
- Set and costume design is very good.
- The romance aspect (while not mega steamy or anything) does include physical contact and kisses, unlike some other dramas.

Cons:
- The ending feels very very rushed.
- Plot can be a little predictable at times.

Possible cons:
- This is very subjective but some people I've shown this to have found the FL's voice difficult to deal with (this sounds really mean but the only real way to describe it is that she kind of talks like a baby? whether or not this is the actress's normal voice, it can be grating to some although personally it didn't bother me).

Possible triggers/romance preferences:
- The dynamics of the relationship could be seen as fairly lopsided as the ML is very powerful, old and scary from the initial perspective of the FL and the FL is portrayed as innocent and naïve in the extreme. However he's rarely overtly cruel and it's not a one-sided thing.
- At least one kiss is non-consensual.

Non-spoiler mood warning for the ending below: if you don't want to know if the ending is happy or sad, stop reading here.
