Five Stars

Eun Joo is such a twisted and tortured soul. Sometimes she sees people's true nature with such clear-sightedness, but other times she takes people's actions and words and interprets them in the most cynical and vicious way possible. Part of this is definitely due to the things that have happened to her, like how she thought her mother took her away from home to kill the two of them, leaving Eun Hee to live happily with her father. Or how she felt like she had to earn money for the family when her father had trouble supporting them. But a large part of it is just due to her personality and how she chooses to interpret things. I have sympathy for her, but I find her interactions with people destructive and outright mean, with absolutely no give. We've seen how she can be kind to people she cares about or looks at fondly, like Chan Hyeok or Hyo Seok. Yet she refuses to give even an inch of that sort of consideration and understanding to the people who care for her the most, like Eun Hee or Jin Sook. No, neither of them are perfect, but Eun Hee especially keeps trying to make it up to Eun Joo and treat her well. And I noticed that even when Eun Joo blew up at Eun Hee when she felt she couldn't at Tae Hyung, Eun Hee understood that this was just her sister blowing off steam and that she didn't mean it, that she should back away and give her space and talk to her again another day. But Eun Joo gave Eun Hee none of that consideration 5 years ago when Eun Hee was broken up over her boyfriend's cheating. Sure, Eun Hee thinks to herself that Eun Joo is doing the same thing Eun Hee herself did years ago, but it's different. At that time, if Eun Joo had reacted with even the tiniest bit of empathy and understanding, Eun Hee probably wouldn't have blown up at her because she just wanted someone to be on her side when she felt the whole world (including her boyfriend and her best friend) had betrayed her. But Eun Joo couldn't even do that, deciding instead to just criticize Eun Hee. I know Eun Joo was going through a hard time at the time too, but even if she could've just said, "yeah that sucks balls" and then tuned her out as she bawled her eyes out, it would have been better than what she actually did at the time.
