Interesting look into the BL world but writing and execution could be better.

“Lovely Writer” seems like a good way for me to peek into the world of Thai BL dramas and novels. I am not sure how much truth is in this drama, but if it’s exaggerated for the sake of entertainment, the truth doesn’t seem too far behind.

Is the drama’s intention to poke fun at the industry or to show us what it’s like? Either way, it’s an interesting topic and the main reason why I choose to watch it. I had a lot of fun watching the first few episodes when the drama was focusing on casting and filming some of the scenes. I actually would have loved to see more behind-the-scenes of the BL drama industry. Instead, I think we got more about the pressure of selling sex in novels.

This is a pretty good-looking cast, just like ‘Bad Engineers’, the BL drama in “Lovely Writer”. Kao N. who plays Nubsib is definitely good-looking. I also found Tum and Mhok quite attractive. Aoey might be a handsome guy but his character makes him very unattractive. I find Gene to be ok looking.

But when it comes to acting, it’s just so-so and inconsistent. It’s not the worst I’ve seen in a BL drama, but definitely not the best. The cast is still quite young and inexperienced, and most of them only had a few dramas under their belt. I think out of the group, Up might be the most consistent and he plays the introverted and awkward Gene pretty well.. Kao (Nubsib) had a rocky start but got better towards the latter half of the drama.

I also find the pacing of the drama very slow. There are some episodes I have to watch at 1.25x speed because it takes forever for the cast to spit out a sentence or it spends too much time using slow-motion to have the characters look around or contemplate. I also don’t think we need to watch Aoey cry for 5-10 minutes on multiple occasions, which led to my dislike of the character even more. I was waiting for the romance to develop faster, so that I can see more of their relationship challenges navigating the entertainment industry as a couple. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen until towards the end of the drama.

Overall, I do enjoy the romance between Gene and Sib and their backstory (though a little unrealistic). I think their contrasting personalities make for a fun watch. They really didn’t do much and are very domesticated. I think that’s also part of their charm and I do like their scenes together at home. They have great chemistry and have very believable and nice kisses (not forced, not overly R-rated, but just right for the moment). The concept of the reconciliation is nice, but I don’t think it’s executed well and is too short. On the other hand, I dislike the romance between the two managers. I think they are fillers and don’t add anything to the drama at all. If you cut out their romance, nothing will be affected.

Overall, I had a great time watching this due to the subject matter. I am not sure how this drama was received in Thailand during its airing. I wish BL fans can separate real life actors vs characters in a drama. These aggressive fans shipping is really toxic.


Other Random Observations:
1. My first Thai drama seeing two meals of Korean food (BBQ and home-cooked tteokbokki) and a Japanese tea ceremony.
2. Everyone is so rich. Such nice apartments and big houses.
3. I can never get used to the aggressive product placements in Thai BL dramas - drinks, facial masks, cosmetics, breath freshener, dental hygiene products, sunscreen, etc.
4. I am not liking the weird fairytale endings. They might be fun, but they are fillers to me.

One of the biggest surprises of the year

I was honestly not expecting much from Lovely Wrjter, specially because the first couple of episodes didn’t wow me. But things got way better quickly.
Right from episode 1 it’s clear that Sib is being shady and has ulterior motives to get close to Gene. Little be littler started to see layers and piece together that Sib doesn’t seem to be trying to do harm do Gene. At first I thought he was a con artist, I was sure he wasn’t even enrolled in the university, that just wanted to seduce the lonely and innocent Gene.

I did not see the twist coming. I’d never have guessed that they knew each other from childhood. It’s a bit of a stretch that a 10 year old would prefer to play hide and seek or with stuffed animals with a 6 year old, rather than playing with the other boys around his age. But, it serves to show that they have a connection since then.

I like how their relationship is developed within the 12 episodes. Even though they kissed pretty early, I like how things didn’t get rushed even after they start to date. I like how Sib has patience with Gene because he knows it’s all new to him. Yes, somethings Sib is a bit too obsessed with Gene, like telling him not to talk to stranger, when the “stranger” was one of the main characters on their series within the series.

I liked the supporting characters too. I’m glad that the show didn’t try to do a redemption act for Aye. He really gets a sad ending, all alone. I also like how the series uses him to criticize the obsessive nature of the shipping surrounding BLs. I wish we got to see Hin being a best seller and getting more respect from Bua in the end. He deserves that by being an amazing friend to Gene, jeopardizing his career. I also love how both older brothers are 100% supportive of Gene and Sib. If Hin gets the Best Friend award, Jab and Nueng share the Best Brother award.

VERY PLEASANTLY SURPRISED.....did not see this coming from miles !

After months of escaping all the possible spoilers, I finally finished Lovely Writer. And you know what.....not bad at all!! This was a pretty decent....dare I say a quality show. I started watching this show without any expectations or read reviews or gauged the public reaction (which I usually do because time is of essence)……I simply dived into it. The end result was me decently satisfied with this new Thai BL drama. Without anymore ranting let me start with what I appreciated about the show.


1) OUT OF THE BOX SETUP: The real star of this show has to be the story. To be honest, there is no complicated plot or a genuine plot to begin with. However, the setup is unique from BL standpoint. As ironical as it may seem, the fact that a BL series is made on the world behind the production of a BL series definitely captured the audience’s attention. Apart from addressing our curiosity to know what goes in the making (even though most of the developments were predictable) of a “hit bl show”, the inter cast dynamics, PR gimmicks, fan pleasing, product placements, real story v/s eye grabbing scenes narrative, capitalizing gender/sexual identities etc was partially if not completely touched upon. Due to the light tone of the show, the makers did not dig too deep vis-à-vis these issues. But the fact that they are acknowledging, rather almost parodying (to some extent) these realities was refreshing to watch. For this fact alone, I would want to congratulate the author of the book and the makers who decided to tell this story. There is no moral of the story in the end with regard to these industry practices nor do they start a conversation about reforming this industry. Nevertheless, their decision to give a peak into this world is a start for future BL stories to be more progressive, inclusive and reformed.

2) UPSCALE PRODUCTION: Now we all know that Thai BLs get good financial backing. Because they are widely watched in Thailand and around the world, big channel executives and companies do not shy from spending extra on them and earn millions in profit. So of course, Lovely Writer had scenic scenes, houses we all wished we lived in and clothes we all wished to have in our wardrobe. But according to me, the budget was particularly well spent on the cinematography. I seldom come across Thai BLs with this level of refined camerawork. So many scenes were angled beautifully with the perfect lighting. These creative decisions added more layers to the story and the characters.

3) THE MAIN COUPLE: This couple took time to grown on me, but boy was I glad. The first few episodes did not give any butterflies in my stomach, neither was I swooning. It was only from the mid episodes when the story started revealing itself, did I see their charm. Gene and Nubsib aren’t like Tharn-Type level steamy or passionate; they aren’t like Korn-Knock type long time best friends who radiate same energy and; they aren’t like Konpob-Arthit like senior-junior who slowly initiate their relationship. They are a mix of all these iconic Thai BL couples and much more. On the surface, they are extremely opposite to each other but in essence they were very similar. Gene is calm, collected yet nervous and at times under confident. Nubsib is confident, charismatic yet lonely and detached from the world. Together they were the perfect harmonious couple one could wish for. Gene brought out the best in Nubsib, whereas Nubsib gave Gene the environment where he felt accepted. This show is about them and seeing their journey. Just like colorful shards of glasses forming beautiful patterns in a kaleidoscope, their ups-downs, joyous interactions and individual personality traits molded the best moments of the show. Up Poompat portrayed the character of Gene very well. I was surprised to see his acting, especially in the scenes where he had to cry or be an emotional mess. I think the casting director did a great job, as he has tons of potential. Kao as Nubsib looked almost destined to play this character. Visually, he fit the character like a glove. Though I feel he needs to improve his acting skills, but all in all he did put great efforts in his first role as the main lead.

Areas where the show could’ve improved:

1) COMICAL MUSIC: I did not like the music. I felt it was too cheesy and almost cartoony, especially when a back track was used when the leads were about to kiss or they had a sweet moment. Listening to someone singing “I wanna kiss” in the background when the leads are about to do that killed the moment for me…so many times. Eventually I had no choice but to accept this and get over it.

2) BELOW AVERAGE SECONDARY CHARACTERS: This has been an issue with Thai BLs for a long time but because the cast was more expansive in this one, some characters managed to irk me. I found Aey as a character very frustrating. I understand that his job was to bring more salt to an otherwise sweet story, but he seemed like a half cooked character. The character sketch was dodgy and his portrayal by Bruce was unfortunately not up to the mark (according to me). He needs more training and workshop coaching, especially for scenes that demand him to cry or show vulnerability. Characters like Tum and Tiffy were sometimes sweet and sometimes boring. The actors were okay, but Ken who portrayed Tum also needs more acting workshops. I personally feel the amount of work and dedication the makers put in improving the acting of leads, they do not do that for the other cast members. Unfortunately, acting is one job where you can’t hide. One might not have the taste or knowledge of identifying great acting but public can definitely recognize bad acting.


Lovely Writer brings an obvious yet not so obvious story onscreen. It’s an interesting blend between reality of the industry and a fictional mushy tale. For BL lovers this is a must watch. This show is all about enjoying the story, witnessing some truths yet indulging in the addicting world of BL. Pleasantly surprised !

Profoundly Moving Sometimes while Mundane Overall

This was a hard series for me to get through. Let me just say upfront that it is one of the best acted Thai BL series to come along in a long time. And they actually tackled some interesting real-life situations not in the usual manner but with some realistic approaches. Yet, the story all seemed so ordinary to me and I just did not buy the relationship between the two leading actors. In order for me to accept it, it has to look real and feel real but I just did not see that. However, who really 'stole' this series are the incredible supporting roles. These actors and actresses were unbelievably good and did a way more convincing job than than the main characters. I cannot say enough about how good these people were. Please do not misunderstand; no one did a bad job in acting. I just did not buy the relationship. If it were not for the supporting characters, this series would have been rather dull. I loved them a lot and they carried this series. There is also such a glaring flaw in logic in this story that is just not handled well at all. It will hit you in the face when you realize what it is. It simply made no sense. Superficial to its core and relying on throwing uninformed seemingly cool shade on BL industry

This series is such a mess. It's superficial to its core and relying on throwing uninformed seemingly cool shade on BL industry under the guise of being woke, catering to a particular audience that is suffering under the illusion that they have some sort of moral high ground and love to bash BL writers while having absolutely no problem consuming their stories and toxicly shipping actors in real life, not giving a damn how negatively it affects their private lives.

The writing of the series fails at the most important thing - giving screentime to the development of its characters. It's normal that the first episodes sometimes drawn themselves in way too much exposition but they usually establish certain emotional depth and motivation to one of its leading characters at the very least, but episode 1 LW didn't show any of that. Its main characters are flat and one-dimensional caricatures of real people.

The editing is a mess, the acting is mediocre at best, the music and sound effects are awful. The only decent thing about the show is the camera and I would say the directing but considering that in these independent productions its the writer and director who are in charge of editing as well I have to say even the director is a failure.

It is soooo great that I don't care for the bad parts

There are two features I don't like in this series.
First, the song effects are really annoying at the beginning. The worst is the first episode, but these effects vanish at some point. If it is a problem for you (as it was for me), skip them.
Second, there are some unnecessarily long scenes. You may skip them too.
The thing is that these bad aspects are irrelevant since the good parts are really iconic. This series counts with some of the greatest moments from BLs. I strongly recommend anyone to watch it.
I'll detail some aspects below (don't read if you don't want SPOILERS).



- There is a moment where the main leads get out of the closet for their families. The approach for this subject is really good. I watched a lot of LGBTQ movies and series, and I found this perspective unique and touching.
- The heterosexual couple is really cool and charismatic.
- There is an older man and he is bisexual. That is really uncommon in BLs and it was very good too.
- We get to know more about the BL industry and about the fandom.
- The reunion of the main couple after a time skip is really touching. It was the most remarkable scene of the type that I have ever seen.
- That ending in the restaurant is iconic.

Never Thought I'd See a Potato Cry

Never have I ever had the urge to punch a crying person in the mouth. Nah, Aoey is now challenging for the most punch worthy bl character ever. His crying face just vex me. How you gon' look like a boiled potato and a fish at the same time while crying? Arrggg, I couldn't stand him for one second.

And the Dafug was up with that ending? My arse expecting to see the aftermath of the twitter trends, what became of that annoying crying potato. Instead they spend it with ridiculous jabs. I did not laugh once, not even putting Gene in that snow white outfit and having him look like a blowfish got me to laugh. And to think they made me relive Until We Meet Again!!

I wanted to see if the public accepted them or they are still split. If they found out about Aoey being buttshit crazy. If he grew old and alone like he deserves. If Hin's book became popular, so he can finally shut up about being poor while living in an apartment with a view. Instead the director used the screen time to show us that one random woman. (It occurs to me she's might be the author of the novel this is based on) but so what? I wanted a satisfying ending not whatever the eff that was.

And LOL, why was their family in front of the TV watching that press conference holding hands, and acting like they were watching a competition show and waiting for the host to announce the winner? Like, peoples, breathe, you already know the answer to whether they were dating or not.

Up until the last 10 or so minutes, I was vibing with this show. But I felt so dissatisfied and disappointed with the ending. Yes, the leads got back together, sure, cute, good for them, love wins, unicorns. But what was the aftermath? Arrggg, I hate when I watch a show and the ending disappoints me. After Game of Thrones, I told myself to read reviews before starting any show, but I rushed into this one because of UP, and now here we are. Somehow, I blame this on Ming.

I wanted to write a full review and just rant about Aoey and how he deserves to be punch in the throat, but after that ending, I can't even be bothered. This show has wasted enough of my time, not going to give it more.

Anyway, I'll recommend it, it's a good watch, but personally, the ending did not deliver.

Every BL fan or fujoshi should watch this

This series is about a BL within a BL within a novel that is the BL we're watching. It's confusing, but you'll understand. I really liked Lovely Writer because it is a big metalanguage: It is constantly making critics about the BL industry, what they do for money because of what the fans want and what really happens behind the scenes. Yet they still manage to make a very good romance between the writer and the actor. They didnt give up on many cliches but I could tell they knew what they were doing. There was even a scene at the ending where they break the 4th wall in a way of telling us they know we are watching. This is a must watch because it helps us get into a reality that we didn't stop to think about since sometimes we get stuck in an illusion that every BL couple get along in real life. For that I have a message for the fujoshis: since most of you spend everyday shipping on twitter and forget the actors are real people with real lives, I hope this show will help you realize that there's no reason to be this crazy about a ship and stop arguing about which ship is better. I want them to watch this because it shows the impacts of the crazy fans and they should see for themselves. What I didn't like was the ending 'cause the last episode was very boring and let some issues that got me waiting for closure. Also the actor of Aoey is terrible at crying.

MUST WATCH FOR EVERY BL LOVER

Hello. I want to request to all bl drama lovers to watch this. this story genuinely shows what happens behind the scenes in the most positive form. how the actors are in love with someone else but have to pretend to be in a relationship with their co-stars just for viewership. also, when they refuse to do that, the fans blame them for not appreciating thier love. i dont agree with these fans. acting is a different thing but star's personal life is another thing. fans should not force them just for their happiness. as fans, we have a responsibility to make sure our stars are happy whether its with their co-stars or any goddamn person. also, they can love any gender. if he acts in a bl drama, dsnt mean he has to date the same gender. he can love whoever he wants in his life. they act in a bl drama because they respect the lgbtq community and i am proud of such actors.

If consent was a Bl series this would be it

This series is really a feels-good series. The story is good, talks about how it really is in the bl industry. The characters are all spectacular Gene is a cute, shy and fisty lead and Nubsib is sly, mischief and pretty possessive when it comes to Gene. Watching these characters seem like watching a fox chasing a rabbit lol. And the actors did their characters justice with their spectacular acting. They did well with the age gap by making Gene love Nubsib after he was an adult and not making him knew what he was at first. But at the same time, I did feel like it felt too dramatic for nothing at all. Like when Gene was mad at Nubsib for lying about who he was and I like get it but to move out and crying his eyes out was a bit too much. But its good anyways. Also the way they stress on consent in this series is so damn good. No romanticizing accidental or forced kissing. I liked it so much when Nubsib asked for consent everytime he wanted to do something. The Music is also good. Like I said this is feels good drama since there are many cute moments, so I always watch this series again and again when I get bored or need to smile a bit.

è intelligente, ma non si applica

Ecco, questo mi veniva spesso detto dai miei insegnanti fra medie e superiori e devo dire, si applica molto bene a questa serie: è intelligente, ma non si applica. E ahimè ci sono molti problemi (almeno per me). A onor del vero ho visto i primi dieci minuti dell’ultima puntata e poi ho mollato perché sarò sincera, non riuscivo a tifare per i buoni, ma mi sono ritrovata a tifare per la corporate girl nell’11 episodio, quindi ho capito che un finale tutto rose e fiori forse non faceva per me. Qualche piccola premessa prima che cominci con la vera recensione: non ritenevo che la corporate girl di cui sopra avesse ragione, ma per delle ragione non riuscivo ad empatizzare al 100% con Sib e quindi mi sono trovata a capire più la parte di un’azienda che lucra sui proprio attori e su quella linea che vogliono sia sfumata fra vita pubblica e vita privata. Altre premesse del caso: ritengo che la pratica del fanservice sia da ridimensionare, ma come dice un’altra corporate girl sempre nella stessa scena (che è anche una delle ragioni per cui ho dato 7,5 alla serie) capisco anche perché venga fatto, ma ne riparleremo del FS. Altra premessa, non sono una di quelle fan che pensa che gli attori che fanno una serie assieme stiano assieme, ne lo necessita per vedere una serie, però forse quando ho iniziato a vedere BL in parte era così (ero piccola), quindi una piccola parte di me capisce anche certi fan, ma comunque condanna le loro azioni. Ora che ho messo in chiaro come sono come fan direi che posso passare a spiegare i miei problemi con questa serie (farò due righe anche su quello che mi è piaciuto ovviamente).

Partendo da quello che mi è piaciuto ovviamente non posso non citare l’idea di base, quindi la critica al mondo dei BL e i personaggi di Aoey e Hin. Sulla trama ci torno dopo perché al contempo non mi è piaciuta, mentre spendo due parole sui due personaggi, anche se il personaggio di Aoey tornerà anche lui, devo dire, mi sono sembrati gli unici due personaggi non monotematici, almeno la loro storia aveva una backstory di qualche tipo (un po’ fatta così, eh, non immaginatevi chissà quali backstory, ma almeno qualcosa c’era), mentre gli altri erano po’ piattini, detta in maniera molto soft. Devo dire che molto spesso nei BL trovo i cattivi molto più profondi dei buoni, ma forse sono solo io. Ho trovato comunque piacevole l’interpretazione di Up come Gene, anche se avrei preferito di più come personaggio, ma questa non è colpa sua, ma ovviamente di chi ha scritto il personaggio di Gene.

Bene, so che stavate aspettando questo momento, quindi bando alle ciance e ciancio alle bande che si comincia. Come ho detto sarei tornata sulla trama ed eccomi qua: allora, la trama è intelligente, ma non si applica. Cosa vuole dire, che la teoria di base dietro alla trama era molto interessante e avrebbe forse potuto cambiare le cose, ma credo che fare un BL che critica i BL sia controproducente, nel senso che ovviamente (e siamo onesti chiunque poteva prevederlo) un BL che critica troppo pesantemente come gira il mondo dei BL, che è un mondo altamente lucrativo non avrebbe mai preso il via, mentre hanno dovuto fare delle cose molto più soft e con devo dire alcuni momenti di critica, ma che ripeto sono soft rispetto a quanto in profondità sarebbero potuti andare. Ogni tanto quando vedo serie (sopratutto BL stranamente) penso a come avrei potuto cambiare la storia per rendere al meglio il messaggio e devo dire che io avrei fatto alcune modifiche che andando avanti con la recensione vi dirò, ma una di queste è rendere la storia non un BL, ma una straight story; perché primo avrebbero eliminato il problema BL (nel senso che non è più un BL che critica un BL) e secondo avrebbero potuto parlare di alcuni temi in maniera ancora più all around (dopotutto sappiamo tutti la storia di Mike, Totap e della sua fidanzata, no?) e avrebbero potuto mostrare un lato ancora più tossico da alcuni gruppi di fan. Non lo so, forse l’avrebbero vista in cinque, ma credo avrebbe potuto svoltare la situazione in maniera interessante. Passiamo forse al più grande problema (per me) della serie che si porta appresso molti problemi (sempre per me) legati alla trama: il personaggio di Sib. Partiamo con una premessa, Kao non è fra i miei attori preferiti, però quando lo ho visto interpretare un personaggio di un lankorn la sua interpretazioni non mi è dispiaciuta (diciamo che In Dhevaprom non era male, per una persona a cui il suo stile di recitazione non piace), quindi già forse avevo un piccolo bias nella sua interpretazione, ma ho trovato alcuni tratti di Sib un po’ fastidiosi e sarò sincera come venivano interpretate alcune scene di Sib mi cringiavano un po’, però il vero problema di Sib non è Kao, la cui interpretazione può piacere come non piacere, ma come è stato scritto il personaggio in sé e per sé. Allora, partirò col dire che il personaggio di Sib è probabilmente il peggior attore di BL che possa capitare e questo non mi fa tifare per lui. Allora, il personaggio di Sib è un personaggio che sembra non avere alcun interesse per quello che sta facendo e che addirittura (e glielo fanno dire ad una certa) ha deciso di interpretare il personaggio di come si chiama in quel BL per ri - incontrare Gene (nonostante le loro famiglie siano amiche e quindi poteva evitarsi tutti questi problemi) e sembra non capire che cosa sia il FS. Anche il fatto che sia il personaggio di Sib che di Gene siano ricchi rende alcune dei confronti inutili e privi di senso nella storia. E il fatto che le due famiglie siano amiche da tempo rende anche qui molte scelte dei personaggi molto inutili. Ma andiamo in ordine. Come ho detto il personaggio di Sib è un personaggio che è un pessiomo attore di BL, o forse non lo è, ma non ce lo hanno mai mostrato e da qui arriva la mia critica: da due attori che recitano in una serie BL l’industria (quindi manco i fan in sé) si aspetta che facciano FS e il FS fra Aoey e Sib non ci viene mai mostrato, quindi io non posso provare empatia per un attore (il personaggio) che sembra non faccia nemmeno il minimo indispensabile per vendere la serie. Al personaggio di Sib sembra non interessi che la serie funzioni o meno, a lui interessava solo mettersi con Gene, mentre ci sono delle persone che su questa serie basano sogni e speranze e il fatto che la serie funzione dovrebbe permettergli di arrivare in posti differenti da questo. Ovviamente a Sib non serve, quindi non servendogli, sembra veramente un personaggio disinteressato a tutto, e anche il fatto che comincino a farci “vedere” il FS solo dopo che gli è stato detto “guarda non lo fai”, un po’ come una ripicca. Boh, non mi pareva sensato, ci avessero fatto vedere un Sib che si impegnava e nonostante tutto gli veniva comunque critica la sua relazione o un Sib che deve per forza recitare perché se no non ha nulla, credo mi avrebbe fatto empatizzare di più verso di lui. Come dice ad un certo punto Sib, può pagare le clausole di rescissione del contratto e continuare la sua storia con Gene. Gene, dall’altro lato anche lui ha i soldi, è già un autore famoso, quindi perché si sono dovuti mollare? Veramente non ha senso. Ripeto ci avessero mostrato degli struggle da parte dei due, dove per sopravvivere devono restare nell’industria (Sib che non ha un soldo o i genitori non lo accettano, Gene che è un autore mediocre e questo fantomatico Bad Engeneer è l’unico suoi libro che è diventato famoso perché è l’unico BL… insomma, qualche struggle che giustifichi la loro rottura). Ed ecco perché anche se non giustifico i comportamenti di Aoey e avrei cambiato alcune caratteristiche del suo carattere (della serie, non gli avrei fatto fare quella cosa nell’episodio 8 o 9) almeno lui ha dei problemi che lo portano ad alcuni (non ad altri, ma almeno ad alcuni) comportamenti. Onestamente, anche se ripeto il personaggio di Aoey mi pareva l’unico con uno spessore di qualche tipo, avrei anche qui cambiato alcune cose: visto che il personaggio di Aoey ha delle ragioni per essere nell’industria, mi sarebbe piaciuto fosse quel personaggio che fa il suo lavoro al meglio e che si trova davanti una persona che non glielo permette. Avrei così reso Sib il cattivo, non necessariamente, però avrebbe almeno creato un po’ di dinamismo nella situazione: al netto di tutto i miei problemi sono principalmente due, il personaggio di Sib e il fatto che non ci facciano vedere cosa vuole dire promuovere un BL. Ora, io lo so che vedo principalmente BL della GMMTV che hanno eventi di promozione che durano giorni, mesi, anni… però almeno farci vedere qualcosa, per capire come si comporta Sib mentre lavora (e non mentre recita, ma mentre lavora, perché il FS, lo ricordo è parte del lavoro di un attore di BL), avrebbero per esempio potuto utilizzare l’ora che hanno sprecato per il conflitto familiare (che anche qui ha poco capo e ancora meno coda) per farci vedere questo lato del lavoro. E qui arriviamo ad un altro tasto dolente: il conflitto familiare. Allora, quando ho visto Don’t Say No, una delle critiche che avevo fatto è “pick a struggle” nel senso decidi quale sia lo struggle di base della serie (e voi mi direte, ma non hai appena detto di mettere degli struggle? Sì, ma non così e ora mi faccio capire) e costruisci intorno a quello struggle tutti gli altri: vuoi che lo struggle sia come vengono trattati gli attori dei BL, va bene, allora il coming out alla famiglia fammelo leggero, sempre con le frasi del solito “Io lo faccio per voi” e tutto, ma non due mezze puntate intere su uno struggle che non è mai stato accennato. RIpeto, avessero creato una condizione per cui il coming out è stato quello che poi è stato nella serie avrei capito, però voglio dire, uno recita in un BL e l’altro li scrive… cioè è un po’ assurdo come problema. Secondo me serviva per allungare il brodo, per la serie, non tutte le serie necessitano di 12 episodi da 1 ora e 20, Laws of Attraction, che voglio dire, nemmeno questa è fra i miei preferiti, ha un ottimo time management, 8 puntate da un’ora circa dove si risolvono tutti i problemi che sono nati nella prima. Miglior time management. Due commenti di base per poi passare al problema del FS: non mi è piaciuto come Sib tratti Gene come un bambino, anche se gli ha espressamente detto che non gli piaceva e non mi è piaciuto come questi due siano diventati due amebe nel momento stesso in cui si sono messi assieme. Però cono critiche piccole.

Bene, siamo arrivati alla mia trattatazione sul FS: come dice una delle corporate girl nella puntata 11 “l’agenzia si aspetta che voi promuoviate la serie” che in una frase racchiude che cosa è il FS: semplicemtente una trovata pubblicitaria per vendere un prodotto. Poi i fan si fanno i trip mentali, ma è un problema dei fan che come dire la nostra corporate girl sfrutta per vendere. Quindi paradossalmente visto che questa serie almeno fino all’episodio 11 non ci ha mostrato nulla di FS mi ha fatto ampliare le mie idee sul FS. Nel senso già il FS per me era parte integrante di un quadro di promozione di un prodotto, ma qui effettivamente me lo hanno confermato, il FS serve a fare cash, giusto o sbagliata che sia come cosa. Ogni tanto ci penso a quale sia la coppia che ha inventato il FS, perché so quali sono stati i primi BL ad avere un pubblico internazionale quindi presuppongo che siano stati i primi BL della GMMTV dove il P’Tha della situazione ha visto che far flirtare SingtoKrist o OffGun poteva portare ancora più cash e ha detto “Continuate finché i fan non pensano che stiate assieme e le vostre ragazze vi mollano”. E sbagliato ovviamente, però ce lo avessero fatto vedere in questa serie… mentre letteralmente c’è stata una singola scena dove ci hanno mostrato qualcosa. E come puoi criticare qualcosa senza farmelo vedere. Cioè i fan sclerati li hanno fatti vedere, ma non hanno fatto vedere come veniva promossa la serie e se funzionava o meno come promozione, quindi sarò sincera la corporate girl che dice che l’azienda è arrabbiata perché non promuovono la serie un po’ la capisco. Chiaramoci, non sono d’accordo con quello che hanno “obbligato” (più o meno) Gene e Sib a fare, ma con il concetto di base. Il problema non è che Gene stesse con Sib, il problema è che non gli permetteva di promuovere al 100% la serie, che per una corporate girl chiaramente è un problema ben più grave di loro due che stanno assieme. La F più importante secondo il Milanese Imbruttito. Dopotutto siamo tutte corporate girl sotto sotto. Quindi, il problema del FS avrebbero dovuto mostrarcelo, perché da un lato, la live di Aoey poteva anche essere una trovata pubblicitaria, ma lo avrebbero reso comunque “più buono” di quanto volevano farlo passare. Qui quello che mi è mancato è stato vedere la creazione del FS attorno ad una serie e anzi, quando Aoey metteva foto assieme con l’hastag molti lo guardavano male, ma a dire il vero è qualcosa che fanno tutti gli attori (onestamente obbligati o meno con una pistola puntata alla tempia da P’Tha o meno) e questo reitera appunto quanto pessimo fosse Sib come attore di BL. E in generale, perchè quante serie romantiche giocano nella promozione giocano con la chimica fra gli attori, ripeto sbagliato che sia. Un modo sbagliato, ma sempre un modo di promuovere un prodotto, ma se non me lo mostri, non mi puoi stimolare delle critiche verso delle cose che mi hai mostrato una singola volta. Fammi vedere Sib che ci prova, ma che ha comunque problemi, fammi vedere qualsiasi cosa, ma almeno fammi vedere qualcosa e non definirmi Aoey un mostro perché ci prova almeno (fallo per altre ragioni, su questo ti do ragione, sei pieno di motivi per definirlo un mostro, almeno non farlo per provare a fare il suo lavoro)(all’inizio sempre).

Bene, concluderei con una citazione di un grandissimo personaggio di un anime, uno dei migliori anime sportivi mai concepiti, che quasi quasi mi rivedo a breve: Inazuma Eleven. In questo grandioso anime c’è questo personaggio mistico che è il Signor Dark, che fa piani malvagi, dirotta autobus e droga ragazzini che dice a Jude Sharp, l’altro mio personaggio preferito (un character growth, quella di Jude, come pochi) questa frase che secondo me riassume un po’ il modo della mia recensione e della serie “Chi sputa contro il cielo sputa contro se stesso”. Come ho detto, intelligente, ma non si applica.
