10/10 Awesome K-Drama to Watch Especially for Fans of Fantasy Rom-Coms!!!

The story is awesome!! It has fantasy with rom-com and a little bit of thriller which makes the plot interesting. The whole drama doesn't actually focus on the fact that the female main character is going to die in a year if the Marble isn't taken out by then. Also the scenes at school are realistic as you do usually see fake friends and players. Plus the friendship whether with the trio (Lee Dam, Do Jae-jin, and Choi Soo-kyung) or the love/hate friendship between Shin Woo-yeo and Yang Hye-sun are actually interesting and hilarious. Quite different from most gumiho dramas, this one is light-hearted. Add along the OSTs which perfectly fit into the drama!

DAMN ROM COM DONE RIGHT

July 23, 2021

My Roommate is a Gumiho, is a rom-com done right. Like the executions are just there. So huge shoutout to the directors and producers and to the casts too!!! Sure one of the cons with fantasy rom-com is the plot doesn't make sense in some parts. But to be honest, the plot holes did not bother me. Like I barely noticed it. I think I only remembered the problems now as I am writing this review. ALSO, I do wish that they gave more room on the other couples or "ships". I feel like the secondary characters were robbed of some screen time. Sure I love, Mr. Fox and Dam's chemistry and their relationship. But man I really wanted to see more of the START UP couple, like their side story is just way too cute. And also with Dam's girl best friend and her senior. I really wanted to see more of their development. LIKE OMG DIRECTORS THESE TWO SIDE COUPLES CAN NEED TO STAR IN THEIR OWN SERIES CAUSE I NEED MORE. THIS AIN'T IT. BRUH I AM ACTUALLY SO SAD. I HOPE THESE ACTORS AND ACTRESSES CAN HAVE THEIR OWN PROJECTS WHERE THEY ARE THE LEAD, THE CHEMISTRY IS JUST SO GOOD. THAT IT WILL BE A WASTE IF THEY DON'T STAR IN THEIR OWN SERIES. ?

So besties, watch this drama it's so loveable and hilarious. Props to Hyeri and her character, since this is one of the few female leads who can actually speak her mind and is not a doormat. Also, I just love how loveable and not annoying her character is. She is strong, cries sometimes but not those losers female lead like ugh ? I hate those kinds of FL but Dam's character is just too good. Please directors more FL like her.

I guess that's a wrap for this review too. ahahaha
Enjoy!!!

The story is nothing over the top. It's a simple, fun-loving rom-com drama with a fantasy touch to it.

I liked the leads together. Also, there are many comical scenes that I liked in this drama.

I loved Yang Hye Sun's character.

I loved Yang Hye Sun & Shin Woo Yeo's friendship, especially their bickering.

Lee Dam's reaction when Shin Woo Yeo transfers into his real self or teleports in front of her is so funny.

The way Lee Dam eats fried chicken as if her life depended on it. She is the number one foodie.

Laughed so much when Lee Dam kept on dodging from Gye Sun Woo's touch.

Shin Woo Yeo giving random advice to Lee Dam about some stupid stuff is hilarious. Also demanding stupid things from each other.

Shin Woo Yeo's excuse of withdrawal symptoms right after he was rejected is hilarious.

Laughed my asses off when Shin Woo Yeo indirectly insulted on her behavior so that guys wouldn’t like her.

Lee Dan & Do Jae Jin asked questions to Shin Woo Yeo & his only reply was "No".

Laughed so much when Lee Dam was crawling on the floor, suddenly Shin Woo Yeo came in front of her. The way she shouted was hilarious.

When Shin Woo Yeo said he thought of Lee Dam as his niece, her reaction was priceless & in return, she started calling him uncle.

Laughed whenever Yang Hye Sun doesn’t understand idioms.

The way Lee Dam & Do Jae Jin sanitizer their hands after hugging each other is hilarious.

Laughed when Lee Dam's friends were badmouthing Shin Woo Yeo in front of him.

Shin Woo Yeo correcting Yang Hye Sun's "fox" spelling the way he said was the best moment.

Lee Dan not believing that Lee Dam has a boyfriend & keeps on asking if she blackmailed Shin Woo Yeo is my favorite scene.

It's not POX, its F O X- FOX

Romcoms usually aren't my cup of tea, but MRIAG got a lot of hype on my social med so I decided to give it a try-

Of course with every drama comes with the tropes- these tropes come from fated first encounter to forced cohabitation (etc etc.) Although these tropes can be found everywhere in dramas, MRIAG makes it feel well incorporated into the plot. I liked how the characters developed. Nothing felt too sudden and jarring, and mostly* everything made sense. Of course, some things remained nonsensical as this was a fantasy drama- the world around gumihos and what happens around them remains solely up to the scriptwriter, but from how everything played out, MRIAG was easy to follow.

I loved the casting in this drama! They brought the characters to life. JKY made Shin Woo-Yeo seem cool and refined, and Hyeri made Lee Dam a refreshing and chaotic individual. I also loved the other two pairings with Kim Do Wan and Kang Hanna- their relationship was absolute comedy. The only quip I had with this drama was the love triangle. I couldn't feel the tensions of second-lead syndrome- it may have been how Gye Sun-woo's character was established, but that initial impression remained with me throughout the drama. Also...how Lee Dam addresses Woo-yeo seemed...interesting? ?

Quips aside- I would recommend this to someone seeking a fun time without much to worry about :)))

**review +.5 for personal bias for Jang Ki Yong ;)

Korean drama about a gumiho who wishes to be a human, and a chance meeting with a woman who accidently swallows his fox bead. Leading to a comically awkward house share, leading to a romance.

Like
Comedy in drama with an especially funny female lead.

Dislike
Second half episodes lost it's charm and seemed to drag on.

6/10 really enjoyed first half of drama.

Really good Korean Drama!! I recommend it! If you like watching romantic comedy.

I love the characters on how they portray their roles in the drama!! Love it! I love the flow of the story no skipping plot lines. It was really good overall. For me its already good to watch it one time. About the main actress she’s funny love her acting and the leading man is very handsome also love his acting. The supporting actors are also very good. They were also funny. So my overall score for this drama is 9/10. One of the best korean movies right now this 2021. So highly recommended.

Worthy?

I didn't want to watch because I was not interested in mythical dramas but ended up watching due to good reviews

Plot:- Nice plot..very touching.. every character had a story to tell.. I liked it

The ML is super hot and was good at acting the FL is soooo funny..did her job amazingly

For whom I fell the most was second male lead. He was the bad boy who falls for her really deep and turns out to be the best version of himself. His scenes were soo emotional that sometimes I forgot he is the second lead.. he never gave up..he confessed soo many times and he always looked on the verge of crying..
It was very much painful for me to see him going and how the red thread detached..
I hated it when he said I still like you and cried..
I loved him very much...I found him better looking than male lead.

Now the second female lead who does not love the ML but is a gem of a friend..
They both bicker with each other but the second female lead cares a lot for him..
I loved her way too much..
The ML should have shown some warmth towards her!!
But I totally loved her and her back story

The ending is happy.. every one meets happy ends leaving the second male lead
I guarantee you.. your heart will ache for him..

This was a good watch

Magical realism, miscommunication, stress. 10/10 watch

This show is a darling. Before I talk about what I love, keep in mind before deciding to watch that there is a huge age gap between the characters (literally and figuratively, they go undercover as teacher and student in college but also he's 999) and it's a forced proximity situation.

I adore their relationship. I adore how assertive Lee Dam is, and how open about her feelings and willing to communicate she is. I adore the shenanigans that happen in the momentary panic before they realize they need to just come out and say whatever it is they're thinking of. I love that LD actually has friends and family members that matter to the story and to her rather than cardboard cutouts to make her look like less of a loser because oh no she definitely has a backstory. I genuinely just love this drama and I think you should watch it.

classic fantasy romcom drama

the visuals in this drama is spectacular and extremely beautiful. i consider the story of this drama a classic romcom drama and i didn't watch it because of the story because its not new, but i watch it because of the cast and the amount of beautiful people in the drama they were like a sanitizer for my eyes.
moreover, i loved the second lead couple they were the cutest and made my heart flutter alot. the main couple chemistry was great hyeri was so perfect for this role.
if you are new to kdrama i do recommend watching this but for me i spent alot of time to finish it because it wasn't exciting for me to watch the next episodes i just watch it for the cast and the humor it has.

This was a cute story. I'm glad it wasn't bloody gory! I am happy that I waited for the subtitles on all episodes. I loved the 5 main actors/actresses. They all did equally well. The storyline was creative in his drama; I thank the writer(s). I don't know whether to be scared of the Gumihos or demons! I am also relieved that the Gumihos were not scary, mean, or demonish! I did get emotional towards the last episode. You will have to see it, but please don't skip any of the episodes... or you won't know what is going on in the story.

Entertaining watch with great FML and a touch of mythology

+ FML: I felt like her charecter was fleshed out. I understood her actions and generally felt like she was making realistic decisions. She was just a good person and didn't unnecessarily complicate the plot which I appreciate.
+comedy and character dynamics: Generally entertaining although it could be a bit over the top for some.
+side characters: Had their own stories and were generally fun.

-MML: It was hard for me get captivated by his character, epsecially at beginning. He is an emotionless gumiho, so his facial expressions and his tone is super dull for most of the show. Even when he stops acting in such stiff way, he mostly showcases somewhat jealous or possesive behaviour. I do not think it was super bad, it was honestly minor stuff and I still enjoyed the show, but it was just harder to love his character in comparison to FML.
-repetitiveness: The plot was in general nicely flowing but I do think they focused for too long on some stuff (red thread and destiny stuff as well as overusing phrases Hyesun does not know). It was slightly dragging the plot but it could be just because I did not personally enjoy them.

Overall, I don't think it was groundbreaking but it was a plesant watch. I liked how they incoporated mythology without focusing too much on it, it was quiet fast-paced and the characters were lovable. It's mostly focused on romance so if you're interested in that, I would check it out.

A gentle journey of humanity and freewill

A lot of care and effort was put into the writing to craft the characters and their interpersonal dynamics and it pays off nicely. I really enjoy how Woo Yeo isn't a cold, arrogant, and aloof creature taking out his angst on others, but a polite guy who is willing to communicate as he learns what it means to be human beyond mimicking the cultural customs of the current times, and how Lee Dam is a realistic, messy in a good way young woman who is direct, fun, kind, and never a doormat. It was so fascinating that the story started with their meeting and they had a pleasant platonic connection, but then Woo Yeo changed that in an instant when he went into romantic lead mode and he changed the chemistry between the two. I really like how the show continually develops their relationship with their interactions and understandings about each other, really building things up to lead to an organic romance. They actually get spicy too, which good for them.

It's nice there is no grand makeover, but Lee Dam's clothing style subtly gets more sophisticated while still her own comfort based fashion taste, changing from the influence of the perpetually smartly dressed Woo Yeo (other than the times he's in disguise) and with the colder season as well. The show utilizes the side characters well in a way that supports the main story or at least doesn't take too much time away. Lee Dam also has the chillest kdrama mom in the history of kdramas. A literal cool mom that works overseas, sends her daughter the latest fashions, and happy to see her daughter cohabitating with a hot, rich guy.

Sun Woo's relationship with his sister is pretty funny and his character gets to learn and change and it's pretty sad that he gets entrapped in the game of a supernatural diety while minding his own business really. It's great that both he and Lee Dam were able to mutually sever the red string of destiny through their own individual choices. The revelation of the D plot of Soo Kyung's hidden beef with Jung Seok was so funny. He didn't intend to mistake her as the professor and hand out prints of her love letter of her then crush to the whole class, but I get why her grudge would last three years. All of the friendships and sibling relationships are very well done. Woo Yeo and Hye Sun have been there for each other so long they are basically bickering siblings.

While most of the story has been pretty well crafted, it's eye rolling that the writers went to the ultimate cliche of having Lee Dam run into traffic to have Woo Yeo sacrifice himself for her. And no one checks on the poor truck driver who must have hit their head and passed out because they never left the truck despite stopping. Aside from that the ending takes it's time to tie up the multiple storylines it set up and it's well earned because they never took away too much time from the main couple and yet were able to blossom on their own in conjunction with the main plot. That is the drama's strength, making this interconnected world that built up Lee Dam and even Woo Yeo's life and actually having everyone communicating to address the choices and consequences of decisions.
