One problematic kbl

Everything is problematic. I feel bad for shin woo for lacking of screen time. He is the main lead. The mood was not set straight for two main leads, so i don't feel the urge to see them as couple. Also, they could've done better in acting, it's as if i was watching a high school project.

I just finished the whole show coz it's my habit to finish everything i started even if there are signs you need to drop it in early stage.

One thing that i like, leads are just cute. Nothing more.

The best Korean BL I've seen so far

I was so excited to see that this BL would have 16 episodes even though it would only have about 20 to 30 minutes running time per average but it's okay since it aired twice a week. This is one of those dramas where I found myself wanting for it to be Tuesday and Thursday faster so I could watch an episode. I'm so glad I watched it while it was airing even though I usually wait for dramas to be done because the happiness the story and characters gave me was worth the wait! The story first of all is your typical trope of discovering your sexuality in high school but it had something new to it like how I didn't actually expect that the main characters with the exception of Daon at first, accepted that they were gay without showing us too much of them having internalized homophobia. Shinwoo I think is misunderstood at first because he acts cold to Taekyung but its understandable since he had a bad experience in middle school when he first liked a classmate which led to his "friends" bullying and blackmailing to out him. I loved the character developments of Shinwoo who became more open and not caring what people think of him because of his love for Taekyung as well as Daon who after getting rejected by Taekyung still kept being friends with Shinwoo and Taekyung and it wasn't awkward at all at the end especially. Daon was afraid of letting people down as he is a model student after all and his parents are powerful people so I can understand the hesitation at first but at the end he started to learn to say no to others and to not care about what they think of him. The ending kiss scene made me scream for real. It was so sweet though I was kinda hoping it would have lasted a little longer but I understand since it's their first kiss and they're still in high school, I'm satisfied with it. Also a special mention to Namgoong as the best support role and friend as he was always supportive without judgment to all of them even Sohee who he encouraged to go make up with Daon even though it was implied that he liked her. Overall, this is very much worth the watch if you're looking for a somewhat light drama but with a great lesson too! I wish there would be a second season as I want to see how Shinwoo and Taekyung's relationship develops until college and maybe even have a love interest for Daon.

My favvv….

I watched this a whileee ago but it’s one of my favorite Korean BLs so it deserves a review so more people can watch it. I absolutely love this series, it was so cute and the plot was everything. There was never a lacking or dull moment in the series for me. I usually hate love triangles because they be so toxic but this drama was actually the opposite. The “love triangle” wasn’t toxic and I can even go as far as to say it was kind of healthy (in some ways). The main character is so adorable and I feel like the personality his character was given should be more represented in BLs. I loved the main couple and the shyness added to my likability. I love the innocent and shy couple trope because it is so damn cute!!! This was just a very lighthearted story with characters, who struggle with certain issues (i.e. mental health), can finally have a happy or close to happy ending.

The acting was so good and the plot was givinggg everything. I really enjoyed it plus the 16 episodes were heaven sent. I love it when a good series has a decent amount of episodes. This is definitely a Korean BL that I highly recommend!!

One of the best top tier Korean BL at the moment

August 31, 2021

I have been on a slump lately so I have been watching Asian dramas and constantly dropping them after a few episodes. But Light On Me saved me and served right. Everything was done well, there were not unnecessary troupes that are commonly found in other BLs. The relationship of the two are so healthy and non-toxic. It's so realistic that it makes me so jealous of the characters. There was a love triangle but I am happy how it is not dragged on. Everything pretty much went by smoothly. Although, it is noticeable how this drama has a lower budget given the circumstances. But all in all, I am very happy with how everything went through. I suck at remembering names but Shinwoo, my mans ?. I love him so much.

Holy crap, where can I find a man like him. I need him, he is so respectful and very sincere. I know in the beginning, he was a bit cold and rude but he's one of the best tsundere ever. Like dayum, all I can think about is him. He really stand out among the cast from acting to character development. I know how things are especially given how people are still very narrow minded and that coming out can be a pain. Especially with how some friendship will turn hostile in the end and how often bullying occurs. Given his middle school backstory, I literally cried for him. Because it hits so close to home. I know how it feels and that I am so happy for him to finally have courage and be himself. Also thank god, he was the endgame. I was so close to booking it to Korea cause I thought TGK will choose Da On.

Damn, what a review, I pretty much talked about Shinwoo only. But can you even blame me... Anyway, I hope y'all give this series a chance!!!

very good series

EVERYTHING IS PERFECT, i hope they consider to get s2
the story is a welcoming change to the typical BL, cause you never know what happens next and the tension is always high.
Light on me hasn’t the emotional impact like other BLs, but instead, all the feelings are shown in a calm, unobtrusive way. It also didn’t avoid uncomfortable themes like bullying or homophobia, which I really appreciate.

But the story wouldn’t be that good if the cast weren’t that great. Especially Kang yoo who plays Shin-Woo is an outstanding talent, who can literally speak with his eyes and gave me goosebumps just with expressions.

So Light on me is a highlight of the BL-Year 2021 and paves maybe the way for other outstanding BLs from Korea

A Compact and Warm Story.

I began this one in order to get out of a drama slump and it unexpectedly became one of my favorite short KDrama! What made this attractive to me was not just the romance, but the distinct characters and the struggles that they dealt with.
-- Taekyung struggled with being a loner; Shin Woo takes time to adjust and feel comfortable with strangers; Da On is bent on making everyone happy and never knows how to say no. Namjung is a cheerful and supportive friend wheras So Hee tries to get what her heart wants.
--- The pacing of the drama was excellent. With 16 episodes spanning around 29 minutes each, they managed wrap up everything quite neatly. There were some episodes I felt that would drag on certain parts, but it never did.
--- The relationship (including a love triangle) were surprisingly not too forced. Although, I still do not know when somebody is a bad actor, everyone's performance in this was highly convincing. They played and looked the part that fit their characters' personalities.
--- I loathe love triangles with deep intensity, and almost dropped this drama. But, this was one triangle/unrequited love that I felt was well written. There was no unnecessary pushing or pulling, but just went with the flow in the right way.
--- I found the setting and cinematography pleasing to the eyes. The OST in particular, was simple, but managed to capture the essence of the drama without going overboard. I was particularly happy to hear A.C.E, a band that I'd followed since their debut. (I particular loved the song Spark. Fever by Mooz is my next favorite. And the instrumental "You".)

It was nothing too special, but it had really warm vibe that we rarely get from many dramas.

This series is a gentle and quiet exploration of identity and self in adolescence. I'm not sure though, which age group could be the intended audience -- teenaged people who get a mirror for their own growth or older adults who might feel a slight melancholia when watching the drama.

All in all, it did not wholly deliver on its promise.
The premise I liked, four young people who have to come to a decision and their own standing point regarding their position towards platonic and romantic relationships -- and issues of belonging to a group versus being who you are. Even the love triangle made sense within these topics.
The execution, though, is stilted and at times too slow.

These are definitely directing choices, not the problems of the actors -- as soon as they get to do something, they start to shine.
For example, I don't understand why the actors stand right in front of each other in most conversations, with their arms hanging down without movement (and the whole drama is conversation-heavy) -- alternatively, they talk while walking next to each other at a snail's pace. I suppose the director wanted to convey some kind of awkwardness -- which is a good idea, since the characters definitely don't feel comfortable for most of the time, but it just gets boring after a while.
Also, the characters (with the exception of Namgoong) all have similar mannerisms (or, if I want to be a bit mean, the same mannerisms) -- including the teacher, which I mistook for another student in several scenes.

There were also some minor issues:
* At times, the background music did not quite fit the mood -- I'm also not a fan of the "plink-plink"-kind of music.
* The scene with the adult toys in the beginning was never resolved, and did not fit in with the rest of the story.
* I could have done without the kiss at the end -- it feels as if the writers or the director said: Oh, the audience also wants a kiss, so lets add it somewhere. A hug or some light cuddling, or even sitting very close to each other would have fit the overall mood better.
* I'm also not too sure about the female character, but since she had her own story arc and character development, I'll let it slide.

The plot itself, with its theme of exploration and the awkwardness of navigating relationships in adolescenece, is fine, and surely of interest to many. It's just that the way the series is brought to the screen cannot convey all the depth and the emotion it wanted.
Maybe if the creators had been clearer of the intended audience and made some bolder choices for directing according to that, it would have been more on point.

Overall, I found it okay to watch, but not worth a second time.

Love triangle I'd recommend but never will cause I HATE THEM!!!

This would be a love triangle that I would recommend but not really cause I would never recommend a love triangle I HATE THEM!!!

This was done super well tho, I went in and from the begining it was clear that Tae kyung was gonna end up with Shin wo cause of the meeting but of course I had to fall for Da on because of second love interest syndrome duh, even tho I shipped Tae kyung with Da on after their talk about liking each other i got closure and enjoyed Shin wo a little more.

Liked but woud def not watch again, sorry <3

The teacher tho I need to know more!? the tea there is HOT I just know it.

Namgung that handsome guy he's my absolute favourite and tho he didn't get the girl I'm glad for the happy ending where they are all still friends (if Tae kyung ended up picking to be with noone for the friendship or just couldn't pick I would be okay with it ngl but people would definetly hate that lol)

LOVE TRIANGLE DONE RIGHT!!!

Cried a little due to Da on as well as Tae kyung cause of their struggles about each other but not because of the relationship which I'm glad about cause once I cry about the relationship its over I'm too invested on them as a couple not ship them with other people. I'm sooo THANKFUL for the ending credits cause it puts it all together and gets me smiley and happy to see the actors, makes me come out the series and realise this is just a show and that its okay tho it can happen in real life.

I had no expectation (at all) watching this series from the very first minute. I put my hope as low as possible to Korean BL, since they let me down over and over again. But this series brought something different that I ever felt to any other BL series.

The story is actually pretty simple, with almost nothing new they offered like any other series. However, the way they directed this show turn my head (and heart) around in every single episode. I almost believe this series might be ended up "sadly", or at least different than I expected from beginning. Yet, I fell in love with the last 3 episodes.

Even though, they all are look bit older as a high school student but their performances were spectacular. It's just... I usually fond of original soundtracks from Korean series, but this series has nothing easy listening music that could stuck in my head.

Very enjoyable

Finally, a Korean BL that isn't as short as a movie! I loved this series a lot, the love triangle was competitive but not too fierce which I enjoyed. It was hard to tell who Woo Taegyung was going to end up with at times, I liked this as the story remained interesting and I wanted to watch the next episode quickly lol. There being an original OST made the drama very enjoyable, it feels like its own thing because of it.

I really liked that the characters were comfortable saying they like each other without having to ask about the sexuality of the other. I think this BL is very important for South Korea so people will be more open-minded regarding sexuality.

I only wish there were more romantic moments, but I guess that as the characters are high-school students, they are shy and not daring in love.

Overall, I am very happy with this drama and highly recommend everyone to watch it. This is one BL you do not wanna skip :).

Our favorite BL of all time.

We thank the production team every single time for the sixteen episodes that it contain when we rewatch it.
Such a beautifully written coming of age story (especially one part in the story that is shown so beautifully).
It's fluffy and genuine. Noh Shin Woo is probably one of our most favorite lead characters ever.
Same with Namgoong Shiwoon. Way at the top of the list of awesome side characters.
Everyone needs someone like him in their lives to brighten their day.
The OST is beautiful and the acting is sweet. The High School trope will always be one that we adore and Light On Me reminded us once again why.

Surprisingly Well Done

The first time I watched this show, I thought Tae Kyung was too awkward and the show was okay. But it stuck with me enough that I added the theme song to my playlist on Spotify and I ended up coming back to watch the show a second time. This is one of my top two Korean BLs at the moment. It feels sufficiently well developed and tackles some tough topics - but not in a way that weighs you down. It's also longer than most KBLs I've seen and much better acted.

Spoilers below:
Tae Kyung in definitely still awkward, but I appreciate his sweetness and his caring for others. I love the way Shin Woo cares about him from the sidelines, and how their relationship develops from begrudging classmates to friends and eventually to romance. Shin Woo loves quietly but fiercely, which is lovely. Da On is a good guy, but he's a doormat, and he lets his fear rule him. It's nice to see him get character growth about this. Everyone really gets developed as characters except Namgoong, but I wouldn't change Namgoong for anything. He's awesome the way he is. He's there to fill a certain role, and he does it with pizazz.
