The storyline is the same as the novel
I really like the novel a certain someone. the story is very touching and soft, adorable, suspenseful, and makes me fall in love. and unexpectedly, this drama is made exactly the same as the story in the novel. Sheng wang really looks like a spoiled and precious young master, jiang tian looks really mysterious and cold. although there is an unexpected kiss scene at the beginning of the episode, but it does not ruin the overall story of the novel. the novel is quite slow, so in the drama I really enjoy their adorable story. I really need a drama to visualize Sheng wang and jiang tiang, and it turns out that Zayin and Benjamin really blend with their characters, making me touched and happy. I will wait for season 2 of themWas this review helpful to you?

This show made me feel emotions I didn't know I could feel in this way.
DISCLAIMER: I was told by a source and also read somewhere that a season two has already been completed (script wise) and all that's left are fan reviews in order for us to get it SO please do your job as fans and upvote as much as you can about this show so we don't have to end it in heartbreak like our last episode!!Honestly, there's a reason people say Taiwan makes the best bls, I stand by that statement. From the acting to the plot, this cast and crew really REALLY outdid themselves. The storyline could easily be seen as cliche, however, the way the cast and crew portrays the story shines an entirely new light on that cliche completely. Episode one was full of explanations and a bit of goofiness; as time went on the show really took a serious turn and had me on a rollercoaster of emotions. I want to take this time to mention as well, Ricky Hsiao and the other musicians who made the OSTs are so talented, this show introduced me to a new musician I love and I'm forever grateful. Back to the story, at times I felt like somewhere in the plot more could've happened, nonetheless, I really have no complaints other than it being too short. The actors did an amazing job at playing their roles, their was a great balance of silliness, seriousness, tense scenes, and emotion overall. Sometimes you'll find a good show with a good plot + cast that only misses good cinematography but this show did an AMAZING job with their cinematography. I haven't cried over a show in ages and I actually shed a few tears to some scenes (And Ricky Hsiao's amazing vocals) and I'm also grateful for that. This show was definitely a breath of fresh air along with a punch to the face! Amazing job to the actors, crew, and writer of this story. I don't think I've been this obsessed with a drama in ages, keep up the fantastic work! (Not that it means much coming from a random fan somewhere, regardless)

THIS BETTER HAVE A SECOND SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG, I can't even begin to describe how amazing The On1y One is! This drama is just everything. The slow burn and all that intensity? I’m all in! Watching Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian find comfort in each other was so heartwarming. It really nails what it feels like to be a lonely teenager who doesn’t fit in and worries about how others see them. I love how it dives into these feelings—it’s super relatable and done really well! The "villain" in this drama isn’t exactly a full-on antagonist, but more like a bad guy who sabotages Sheng Wang here and there. He doesn’t have a huge role, but his actions create just enough tension to keep you on edge. He’s not a character you hate entirely; in fact, understanding where he’s coming from makes his character more complex and interesting, even though he's not front and center.
And then there’s the second couple. Their chemistry? Absolutely incredible! From the moment they appeared, I honestly thought they were already together. They have that natural connection that’s just magnetic like they’re meant for each other. Their storyline, with its subtle jealousy and unspoken feelings, brought a whole new layer of intensity and excitement to the show. I was so hooked on their scenes, and their backstory made their relationship even more fascinating.
What really hit home for me, though, was how realistic Sheng Wang’s journey is. I grew up in a similar situation, and I could totally relate to what he was going through. The way he shows his struggles feels so real and authentic. It made me feel all the feels!
The only thing that disappointed me was the cliffhanger ending! It just leaves you hanging, wanting so much more. I’m crossing my fingers for a second season because this story deserves a satisfying conclusion, and I need answers!
Overall, The On1y One is such a gem. It’s this perfect mix of drama and real-life struggles that pulls you in completely. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’re missing out—go watch it!

Initiate Production of "The On1y One" Season 2
"The On1y One" is more than just a show. For numerous individuals amongst the LGBTQ+ community, myself included, it has solidified our identity, given us comfort in acceptance, and built a sense of belongingness. In a world often embodying heteronormativity, "The On1y One" has offered invaluable representation. It's not just a series, but a beacon of hope and a testament of progress for many.Despite its gross viewership of over 2 million in the LGBTQ+ community alone (Source: Nielsen Ratings), the production of its 2nd season has not yet been planned, which we perceive as an incongruity. The show's influence extends beyond mere entertainment—it fosters an environment of understanding and acceptance, enabling conversations around identity and diversity.
A second season is not just for amusement but a demand for fairness and representation. Let's urge the responsible production companies to initiate works on "The On1y One" Season 2. Sign this petition, push for the change, and make our voices amplified in the call for a well-deserved second installment of a popular and much-loved series.
We need real action to make Season 2 a reality. If each person simply says, 'I want Season 2,' it won't have much impact. But if we all come together and raise our voices, it will be much louder and more powerful! Let's sign the petition for Season 2. Please sign at the petition I created on change.org
Let's make it happen, everyone!

STORY : I can't believe this series obsess me within just first 2 episodes. Altough some people may think this story is slow-burn, I actually liked it. I literally having butterflies and crying all over again bcs how roller coaster this storyline is... Some people may hated the ending but I find that Sheng Wang character is realistic. I loved how each epsiode the class always have subject that have connection with their relationship.Cast : Dongqin & Benjamin carried the entire series! They could just look at each other and makes you crying haha Benjamin stare is his secret weapon. :))))

Engaging
"The Only One" is a beautifully crafted series that will leave viewers emotionally invested and yearning for more. It's a must-watch for anyone who appreciates genuine storytelling .I have read the novel and i think both lead gave justice to the character and their personality specifically "Benjamin " who played the character "jian tiang". ??...hopefully there is season 2 to see how story unfolds. Was this review helpful to you?
MASTERPIECE! Highly recommended!
1000/10! One of the BEST BL -> 2024Mou mou is my favorite! This is a fantastic adaptation! It is precisely the same as the novel, even though it is still only half of the plot (about chapters 50 or ~> 60 (*ending, episode 12*) of 112).
I'm hoping for a second season!!
Highly recommended! Masterpiece!

Complex characters, good acting but very slow-paced without much happening
My expectations of “The On1y One” were quite high due to the comments and reviews I’ve heard. Unfortunately, it might not have met what I was hoping for. It was still a pretty good drama, especially the acting of the cast. But if I have to compare it to my recent favorite, ‘The Time of Fever’, it’s not up to that level of enjoyment for me.What I Like:
1. Main Acting
I will complain about the ages of the main leads, but maybe a younger cast might not be able to deliver such nuanced acting. Liu Dong Qin is an experienced actor, and even though he looks way too old to be 18 (he’s 30 in real life), he was able to portray Sheng Wang really well. Benjamin Tsang was a surprise since he’s quite new to the industry. He only started acting in 2023 but his Jiang Tian is so believable. The perceptive, contemplative and longing looks he has for Sheng Wang really deliver all the emotions with few words.
2. Sheng Wang + Jiang Tian
Two very different teenagers who have nothing alike are able to find comfort in each other. Sheng Wang is a lonely boy, who wants to be surrounded by friends, but is afraid to owe a favor. He’s rich, spoiled and picky but has a good heart. Jiang Tian, on the other hand, had a tough upbringing, never had a place to truly call home. Knowing he never unpacked his suitcase pains me. He’s used to being left behind and has built a tall wall around him, so he will never be abandoned again. Both of these characterizations and how they become close to each other is beautifully written. This is also the strength of the drama. Romance is secondary, but how these two individuals grow is central.
3. The Moments
I love all of Jiang Tian’s moments. He’s a man of few words, and these moments give us an inside look of how he really feels. I might complain about the flashback, but the first moment when Sheng Wang called out his name, is significant and symbolic of their relationship. Jiang Tian is my favorite character. He appears tough, but he can never truly say “no” to Sheng Wang.
What I have Mixed Feelings or Don’t Like:
1. Age
First look at Liu Dong Qin, and I thought he’s way too old to play the part. I don’t think I was ever able to get past these feelings, even though he was acting young and pouty.
2. Pacing + Flashbacks
12 episodes are way too long for this drama without much going on. The pacing is already slow and when you add on the constant flashbacks, it feels even slower. Though I enjoy the writing of the main leads character development and their relationship, nothing much really happened. The drama could have spent more time on the other side stories. Season 2 was not even announced or may not be in the works when season 1 was written. But it’s written as if it’s dragging its feet and hoping for a second season.
3. Side Plots/Characters
While the banter between Pepper and Gao Tian Yang is cute and fun, the crush Pepper has on one of the main leads could be more obvious and developed better. The love triangle between the teachers happened towards the latter half of the drama, and could use more screen time and a stronger focus. I want to know and see more of the two teachers’ background stories (one is not enough), instead of just telling me they were close. Is the kidnapping really necessary? The only NC scene of the drama felt out of place. All of the kisses in the drama are very G-rated, described as “4 lips touching together.” The NC scene feels like fan service because this is considered a BL, so we need some sex? It’s longer than necessary to tell the story.
There’s a lot to love about this drama, it just didn’t meet my expectations. I will recommend this if you enjoy a slow burn relationship (not necessary romance) with complex characters. The drama is an easy watch and very character-driven. But if you enjoy a more plot-driven drama, this might not be it for you.

only adapted part of the novel & the ending feels unfinished BUT overall it's great
the viewing lens is very important for this one. i had some warning about the ending so i wasn't too devastated, but it does feel unfinished. the rest of the drama is excellent, with great acting, chemistry, production, and ost. for me, definitely worth watching. if they made a season 2 and finished the story, this would probably be a 9.5/10 for me.Was this review helpful to you?
This is just the beginning.
The On1y One, will take us back to the age of high school teen, the age of learning, trying, and finding the answer of every incoming to your life. This drama shows us the great story teller, music, chemistry of every character in a frame (perfect casting for every characters too!). The story going not too fast and not too slow, so we can get to know more about these 2 main characters, Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian with smooth. I hope this great drama can be make for the next season. because this is just the beginning. I hope that those who have never watched this drama will give it a try.Was this review helpful to you?
