I almost Vomit ,,, they were trying to adopt Venom marvel American movie but failed horribly

I had high hopes for this one, I thought it was about a psycho killer and the male lead has some foresight after losing his eye to that killer that he can actually watch the crimes and hunt that killer
but apparently, I imagined all that in my head
this drama is a mess ,,, the male lead was abducted and his eyes were harvested but he regained consciousness and managed to reattach one of his eyes to his face again so, IS HE AN ALIAN?
Nope, He's a genetically modified human apparently called connect LOL
Too many sticky parts dismemberment scenes and the sound of flesh cutting and flesh reattachment with all its gore graphic details
one sex scene because psychos have the right to have sex in the middle of this gore
and finally, the male lead got his eye back and didn't kill the psycho because he's a decent deformed human and it was an open ending
Overall watching this drama wasn't pleasant or amusing it was just meh

Lots of Gore

It's hard to rate it because I didn't hate the show but I didn't fall head over heels for it either. The concept is interesting. The male lead has a special ability to reconnect and heal it's broken parts within seconds. It's a lot like Venom (which I loved) but much more bloody. One day he is just walking along humming a song he wrote when he gets himself kidnapped by organ harvesters. His eye balls get removed but he manages to wake up and plop one of them back in before bolting. Meanwhile his other eye gets placed in the head of another man. The male lead starts to see visions of him and in trying to find and get back his eye, he discovers the man's secret. He's a serial killer.

Up until this point, the show was pretty interesting but it just goes downhill from there. Lots of running around. Lots of incompetent police officers which drive you nuts. SO MUCH GORE. If blood and torture and dissection of bodies bothers you then you will probably hate this show as there is a lot of it from time to time. I just about managed to make through it by watching it in 2x.

I did love the visuals of the connect. The CGI was top notch. I enjoyed the intro theme. Looks beautiful. The main song also really grows on you. There are some action sequences that I enjoyed but too few to really enjoy. More of it would have increased my rating. I actually enjoyed the serial killer aspect to the story because without it, there wouldn't have been anything interesting about the story.

However, the twist related to the serial killer was just a little too much. It wasn't needed in fact. And if anything it made the story a little over the top. There's also an unnecessary sex scene in episode 2.

MAJOR SPOILER ALERT
I also found the end frustrating because when you are trying to escape a building, you go down and not to the roof.

Overall, I thought it could have been improved in several ways which is probably why I wouldn't bother rewatching it. But it's fine for a one time watch being such a short show.

Incomplete

Watched March 2024
A pretty gory, violent, tense, gripping and thrilling watch.

Jung Hae-in is excellent, as always, and Go Kyung-pyo's character is very unnerving and he plays it really well.

A lot of very unsavoury characters in this and the nothing-new trope of anyone different being ostracised, victimised and, where possible, cruelly used for financial gain.

There are a lot of adult themes, so not one for [young] family viewing.

JHI's character is a mystery. Alone, a loner and seemingly without family or history/background, which is almost completely non-existent in the drama. He is sweet, kind and sometimes comes across as vulnerable, but he has an edge when he becomes protective of others. He is totally unaware of his 'situation', too, until the trigger point; which raises many questions. In fact, how certain characters exist at all, whilst hinted at a tiny bit, remains a complete mystery as well.

A very dark, seedy, mony powered and selfish side of life is portrayed, with aggressive and brutal people and police.

I did like the pace, feel and the soundtrack to this. There is also a sound effect used for a specific 'thing', which I found rather cute, although I am totally unsure as to whether that was intended, tongue-in-cheek, or just me perhaps!

S1 ends with a wide open door for a S2, which is desperately needed to make any sense of this drama at all. Without it, it's really just a vehicle for gore and shocks.

Sadly, it seems nothing has been confirmed on that front. I absolutely hate it, when American backed productions don't film/air a complete story, and release a S1 without committing to a S2, at the outset.

It happens all the time now. Island, Move to Heaven, Moving, Song of the Bandits, to name a few... none of these provided conclusive endings and many also lacked the depth needed to explain why/how things became the way they are in the present.

It is frustrating, and, is honestly making me think twice about starting Netflix, Disney+ or Prime short-episode K-dramas at all. It totally spoils the viewing experience and story.

Mixed of Parasyte and Tokyo Ghoul

The story is about a man who can regenerate himself after almost getting killed and getting his organs out. He lost his eye during the operation and someone has his eyes. He can see the other eyes that got implanted on other person and it's become confusing because he can saw what the other person is doing. After finding out that person doesn't have a good personality and have doing criminal things, he's going to caught him to get his eye back and stop that person.

*Gore
There are lot of blood and action. If you can't stand against it, don't watch this.

Something different

As you can see from my watchlist and everything overall, I mostly watch dramas with no sci-fi and monsters, but this time I tried watching this. First of all, why did it have such an ending? I like open endings that prepare you for next season, but this is way too open, WAY TOO OPEN. But overall I had fun watching it, I felt thrilled and excited for each episode and that is what I was supposed to feel.
If anyone is reading this I would love you to scold me because I have to prepare for an important test that will affect my future. Still, instead of that I am watching dramas and writing information about them in google sheets and reviews. D-Day is in 11 days so wish me luck as well. Love you all<3

The idea's interesting, but the drama conveyance was quite lacking

Why I liked the drama?

- Amazing casts. There's nothing bad to say about the casts; they're amazing! I liked Go Kyung Pyo's acting as the psychopath. He made some really great disturbing expressions. I honestly was uncomfortable every time he appeared on the screen.
- A grey characterization of the female lead. I think we need more story about Irang because she sometimes acted as a bad person, but at the same time, I can see her humanity. She's great at fighting and a straight forward person which really complemented Dong Soo.
- Great CGI.
- The drama delivered the dark, uncomfortable feelings really well to the viewers.

Why I disliked the drama?
- Towards the end of episodes, the story became messy and so many plot holes. Maybe they wanted to leave the room for season 2, but who knows?
- It wasn't really exciting for me at some point, but I forced myself to finish the drama.
- THE ENDING. The climax between Dong Soo and Jin Seop's was meh. I was hoping for a grand fight between the two 'connected' people, but nah. We don't have it. Also, what's with the cliffhanger? They're really teasing us for season 2 in the ugly way.
- The human trafficking gang. I don't really get their importance on the drama. They kept being highlighted, but actually they're not that interesting????
- The stupid girl who got murdered on the rooftop. Girl, if you found out that you just slept with a serial killer, you should've gone to the police, not confronting him in the rooftop? Where he could easily dispose you? In conclusion, she 's stupid af.

So little has been done to its storyline

So much potential on the premise yet so little has been done to its storyline, let alone the style of shooting and overall structure of the drama. There's a mutant, a serial killer, bunch of thugs, and that's pretty much it, the story didn't really progress a lot despite having shorter runtime. The gore content also does look somewhat cartoonish where of course they're taking reference from that famous comicbook superhero production you know it. At least Jung Hae In and Go Kyung Pyo still did their best in their acting skills, which is the only thing appreciable in this drama.

Watch Connect if you like gore

I haven't watched such a good gore drama in a while, i really missed the genre for a long time. although it was short but with an open ending revealing the continuation of the story. hmm about the characters none of them annoyed me and that was a big plus i wasn't frustrated at any scene at all, i binge watched it with a big interest. i love the CGI. i really like the story. it has comedy (more like playin with words thing if u understand korean) that makes you giggle and of course the main dish, a lot of blood and the plot of a psychopath mmm love it. i find the cast well matched to the characters. about the music haha so many versions 😆 rewatch value only 6 eps that you can rewatch quickly the scenes you love the most. anyway i am hoping for season 2, pleaseee

A mini-series, with 6 episodes. Sci-fi horror. MAJOR WARNING for Body Horror

* Mild Spoilers Ahead*

I don't know how to feel about this show. I think it had a lot of potential? It was enjoyable enough, with some interesting effects - gore and violence, but it just didn't feel completely put together.

I mostly felt badly for Dongsoo this whole show. He had such a sweet and gentle disposition, and just desperately wanted to be loved and accepted. He was so obviously physically pained anytime he was hurt, physically or emotionally, and he absolutely hated having to hurt anyone else. It was like looking at a kicked puppy, and it broke my heart everytime. I know that a lot of people found him to be a weak lead character - but I think that's actually the point. He's vulnerable, he's easy to manipulate.

As a result he's caught between two wild cards. First, Choi Yi-rang. She's all about Connects and had the resources to track the whole underground trafficking ring - specifically looking for Connects.
She also is a Class A manipulator. Not a good person, but definitely an intriguing character. She’s also just completely badass, I did appreciate all that female rage in comparison to Dongsoo’s compassion.

Second, The insane beating heart of this show ,Oh Jin-seop. His stoic disposition and twisty art; using humans as his medium, he creates beautiful - but terrifying - sculptures. After learning about how they are sharing an eye, he develops a true obsession with Dongsoo.

My frustration with this show is that it concludes on multiple cliff hangers - I suppose as any sci-fi show should. I have more questions than answers in the end. What happens to Dongsoo and Yi-rang? What is wrong with our morally gray detective? Will we ever know?

Great Acting, Story wasn't

Connect succeeds in having a great cast that give great performances, alongside great characters that are well-written or mysterious enough to like to an extent. However, the story is easily the big let down here, with almost plot-hole filled plot twists that almost ruin the story? I mean, I didn't really notice this pop up until the final two episodes, which, as you can tell, where the reason why I put this in. If the two final episodes were different, there could be a chance of this having a higher overall rating.

Other positives include the cinematography, directing and the majority of the SFX (although some of the SFX were not that good at all). The OST was pretty nice too, although a little repetitive. Some other negatives would be an uninteresting opening credit scene, some repetitive dialogue, and repetitive action scenes.

I also really liked Kim Hye Joon's character, and the characters in the 'Gang' the most, they were both mysterious and well written (from my perspective, at least).

I would still recommend this, but do not expect a masterpiece.

Waste of Time

Just finished the show. Originally, I was looking forward to watching this as the cast of this one is really promising. The fact that it's a Disney+ original added another alluring feel to it.

However, it was a disappointment.

The acting was okay, but the storyline felt lackluster and incomplete; it had potential but something was definitely missing. The visuals were great though, some of the scenes were mesmerizing. But the lack of depth and character development was glaring. I wish the writers had done a better job with the plot.

They could have added more twists and turns and made it more interesting. It felt like the story was barely touched upon in the time given and could have been a lot more enjoyable if the writers had gone a little bit deeper into the characters and the story. All in all, it was okay, but nothing extraordinary.

The highly imaginative series was similar to the movie The Thing

The highly imaginative series was similar to the movie The Thing, its sequences are not scary. The special effects were well done, but the story has a lot of flaws. From now on, I can see how the second season is going to go and the end of the story. There are twists and turns that the continuation is canceled and we are stuck in a hangover, wondering what is going to happen in the end. Serials like this always end half because of the weak story and lack of content, because in the end it just becomes a repetitive and boring topic, but most of the people will not see it again from some point on, I hope that the second season, if it works, will be able to cover the weaknesses and have an end point at the end
