Unforeseen Romance: A Pleasant Surprise

I initially approached this drama with the expectation of abandoning it if it at the first sign of boredom, hoping only to enjoy Lee Honey's comedy talents that I admired in 'One The Woman'. With no anticipation for romance, given its absence in the MDL tags and my personal disinterest in 'noona romances', I embarked on this viewing experience unsure of what to expect. To my delight, the outcome exceeded my expectations. The narrative unfolded into a heartwarming tale featuring two endearing couples, whose pure romance and undeniable chemistry—despite the noticeable age gap—kept me thoroughly engaged. While the storyline may have had its flaws, it still surpassed many lengthier historical dramas that often fall prey to repetition.

Encountering such high-quality historical comedy is a rarity, I didn't come across any since 'Mr Queen'. Every moment of this drama was a delight, to the extent that I found myself eagerly watching certain scenes even without subtitles.

I rate it 9.5/10—an admittedly subjective rating, but wholly justified by the sheer enjoyment it provided to me. This drama was an unexpected delight and thoroughly worth the watch. Highly recommended.

Delightful!

I originally put off seeing this since I thought it was another Noona romance, but I found the series to be so fun to watch . The premise (noblewoman as a ninja-like avenger) is sightly ridiculous but presented with a sarcastic “tongue in cheek” that made it surprisingly fun. Lee Ha Nee is a talented actress, not afraid to do comedyic scenes. She tried hard to create some chemistry with Lee Jong Won but I found the 11 years age difference too much to overcome. They kept it sweet, though, and that made the romance more believable. Lee Jong Won is very attractive and capable actor. I enjoyed this series, which I am glad they kept at 12 episodes, short but sweet.

BUTTERFLIES

I really love this drama. The chemistry between the ML and FL was so intense. ML should be featured in more romcom series. Just love the way he looks at her lovingly. The casting is amazing as well. I’d recommend to anyone looking for a good feel drama to binge on. However, I rated it a 9.5 simply because they didn’t give the leads at the final episode enough screen time to satisfy my greedy cravings ??. I’m definitely hooked on the ML and will be on the look out for any of his upcoming drama.

Lee Ha Nee and comedy never disappoints!!

This is probably the best historical comedy drama I've watched till date. Usually historical dramas have a lot of politics which make it difficult for me to complete as it often gets draggy half way and then even comedy can't save it.
However this had me in fits of laughter in almost every episode. Lee Na Hee never disappoints. Although it was first drama I've watched of the ML, he played the role of a rigid officer slowly falling into love very well. All the side characters had their own roles and weren't there just for the sake of being a character.
I'm a sucker for badass FL and equally badass ML with great sword fight scenes.
Although we didn't have any kiss or anything, the chemistry between the leads and the people around them teasing them made it so adorable. Personally, I like the pining, implied romance with tension in the air kinda thing more than a kiss. It really had me squealing all the time. The blush on the faces and the hearts all around!!!!!Honestly if they our couples were any cuter I'd have a heart attack.
All in all, a perfect watch, with all my fav elements which had even my heart fluttering!!!

A must watch! Don't be intimidated

FL is a badass undercover agent.. She is a widow at day and a hero at night! She has been a widow for 15 yrs until she meets a certain stunning officer and she bickers with him until they both catch feelings for each other in the most swoon worthy way! Aside from the romance the comedy is really a highlight for me.. The way she has to fake being the perfect widow is just hilarious. Honey Lee was really made for this role and gave the drama a lightheartedness even when some sad or challenging things happened it was quickly resolved and not dwelled upon for too long thus not provoking any negative feelings.. Her brother went missing and she has been searching for him and there is a mystery of what happened to him and some minor political intrigue but with all that it was a feel good drama all the way which I liked a lot. Not a lot of angst which I couldn't stomach at the moment. Another thing that I liked even the side characters were not fillers and added to the story!! The only things that i can complain about I just wish there was at least a kiss and a showing of the couple happy ending tho romance was never the focus it sure was highlight for me. They are literally so perfect together aweee

Highly recommended Drama!!!!

Usually i prefer modern drama over historical. But this drama really impressed me. There are only 8-9 drama historical which good.
Story start with female lead who wear secret masked girl lady help other. Female lead window. She stay whole in house to pray for her dead husband and in night she left house to help other. Her brother get disappeared 15 year ago. Then rich minister take care of her and tell her marry his son at young age. After marriage her husband die immediately. Female lead acting is superb, also her stunts, martial arts also good but don't like her cause she look too old as compared to male lead. She looks like his mother. They should have to cast other female actress.

Male lead acting too good and he's so handsome. Ml is police officer who get adopted by family due to his whole family die in one incident. Other supporting caste also best. I love fl maid and ml brother's lovestory. Fl lead maid also smart and supporting.
Story really nice. First fl and ml little argue with each other. When they know each other properly then try to protect each other. They slowly fall in love with each but due to she is window, they tried hide and control their love.
Fl mother law really nice and strict. Her strictness add interesting factor in drama. Father in law show good initially then his real face come out.

For a seemingly simple story, this drama was a very pleasant surprise!

Well well well would you look at that... another crush in my collection ? Say no more !!

As always, I didn’t expect much about this drama at first, mainly because I wasn’t familiar with the actors in there, also because I didn’t quite know what to expect about the story of a widow fighting crimes at night. And now I have to admit that it was a surprisingly good execution and I’m going to miss these characters very much.

For starters, the FL is truly unique, I don’t think I ever saw someone like her in any k-dramas I have seen since now. She’s gentle, funny, smart and knows how to fight! For real! And she doesn’t forget how to throw a punch just because she needs to be saved by the ML lol. Also, her character stays consistent until the very end and that’s very pleasant to watch. Well, I guess there wasn’t much time for any “real” character development but it didn’t bother me much. Seriously I understand that women can be “strong” without being able to fight but I also dig it 100% when they are represented like this.

Another show stealer in the drama is of course the ML. Oh my my! Even if it wasn’t labeled as a romance, I dare say that it was one of the best chemistries I ever saw in a "non-romance" k-drama. This man is one fine specimen that’s for sure. And I sincerely hope the actor will get more recognition from now on: firstly, his looks are phenomenal (he’s truly dashing in the historical genre) and secondly, his acting is also very on point (his eyes omg!!). I’m going to keep a watch on his future projects that’s for sure. Again, the chemistry between the main leads is truly a joy to watch, despite not having many “touchy touchy” moments between them. All of their love was in their eyes and in their actions for the other, especially for the ML. Ahhh I’m swooning all over again.

Concerning the secondary characters, they were all entertaining in their own ways, I especially loved the FL’s maid and another character that appears later in the story but shush that’s a surprise for later! The only downside for me was the main villain, he was kinda stereotypical and didn’t offer as much charisma as other villains in my opinion. But still, it worked pretty well. Another thing that I liked about it is that there wasn’t any misunderstanding that went on for too long (I don’t even think there was one if I remember correctly) and that the tone of the drama was the same, from beginning to end. Surely, it is not a surprise that the drama gets a little darker towards the end, but fortunately the change wasn’t as extreme as other series in this genre.

In a more "negative" note, I guess the ending was a little too abrupt for my taste, even if it was still satisfying for the most part. I just wish we had another episode to tie things up pretty neatly and dive even deeper in the characters relationships when “all is good”. Why k-dramas can’t do an impair number of episodes is beyond me! 13 episodes would have been perfect… Oh well. Apart from that, the cinematography and OST were quite good, even if the latter didn’t make a very strong impression on me, it was still in adequation with each change of atmosphere in the story.

Hum, what else is there to say? Go watch it if you like badass and smart female characters, swooning and gentle MLs, engaging secondary characters paired with a “simple” yet gripping story that is very effective. Avoid if you don’t like fun (lol).

You need to watch this....

Highly recommended,
There are a lot to look forward to in this drama.
First of all,the comedy in the drama is well made, it's not too much and it's not too less. That's how great it was.

I know many people are concern about romance,i don't personally think romance is the focal point in this drama, because even the ending was rushed, you cannot say they end up together.

The plot was good, the build up was great and the acting was superb.

You definitely have to give it a try.
8.5 for me tho.

action rom-com in a perfect, easy to consume package

this drama kept me entertained from start to finish and never left me wanting. it's pausing-to-catch-my-breath type of funny, suspenseful with the characters' secrets slowly being revealed, has thrilling action scenes and oh my gosh the romance! i didn't expect to fall in love with the main couple in this drama, but i did. they're just so adorable (and occasionally chaotic). the ML resembles a puppy in the way he trails after the FL.

the pacing in this drama is fast and no-nonsense, every scene serves a purpose and there is nothing that could be considered filler. twelve episodes is really all it needs. each of the characters have depth to them and are not only there as an an accessory, but help drive the plot forward and/or make the scene more interesting. the plot itself is somewhat predictable, but it didn't personally spoil anything for me since it isn't your typical historical drama with focus on political intrigue and clever twists to shock to viewers—its job is to entertain, and it does it very well!

all around a very well-rounded and enjoyable drama that is easy to consume. if you're looking for something deeper theme- and plotwise this isn't for you. that being said, if you want something you can binge in a few days (or why not in one) that will keep you thoroughly entertained, then i cannot recommend it enough!

fun, fast-paced, with fantastic chemistry

knight flower was thisclose to garnering a perfect 10 in my book, but the last two episodes fell off somewhat plot-wise, so we have a solid 9.5 on our hands instead.

the show does a remarkable job juggling comedy, historical gender politics, palace politics, and age-gap romance. it is primarily concerned with comedy and romance, but it can also effortlessly shift to the show's more serious endeavors into the hierarchal shackles of the joseon dynasty when it wants to. even the palace politics, an area that i often find lacking in kdramas, were reasonably well-written for what small part it played in the first half of the show.

now onto the real highlights of the show. the actors & their characters.

i've never seen lee jong won in a drama before, and can i say that this man absolutely served in this show. his aesthetics were on point and he played suho convincingly. can we all just take a moment and appreciate how swoonworthy lee jong won's suho was?

and honey lee. i won't lie, i wasn't sold on the casting for yeohwa at first. but she quickly proved that she was perfect for the role, and her comedic timing was unparalleled. when it comes down to it, i wholeheartedly believe that honey lee as yeohwa carried the show -- she made all of it work so well together. she set the tone of the show whenever she was onscreen, never let any heavier issue drag its feet, and commanded charm, charisma, and chemistry with effortless finesse. her yeohwa was strong, funny, clever, innocent, and cute all at once. i've no doubt that the show's frequent shifts in tones were made seamless mostly by honey lee's exemplary performance. in short, honey lee is magnificent in this role.

also i don't know about y'all but our main romance was sizzling despite its age gap. these two actors absolutely nailed their dynamic. their characters were well-developed on their own, and their relationship was organic. no love at first sight (unlike the webtoon, whew!), no childhood imprinting, no contrived misunderstandings, just good old organic growth. and i call that refreshing.

now the plot was fine for a good chunk of the story, and that was enough for me, because this is primarily a comedy with romance that's character-centric. however, when the show really dives into the politics, its weaknesses began to show. this is made especially obvious by the puppet king's play for power in the penultimate episode -- that was... dumb. the whole overthrowing of the villain was a little oversimplified for all its setup. i'd also like to point out that at one point, when the main characters crashed an enemy fort of sorts and fought off an entire group of people who were supposed to be well-prepared with their expert swordsmanship -- that arrows are a whole thing.

but the thing is, except for the last two episodes where the show tries to bite off more than it can chew by taking a stab at being traditionally epic, the show knows, for the most part, that it's a comedy with not one but two considerably shippable couples. and when it's focused on what it does best, it excels. it also does a remarkable job of being swoonworthy without need for much showcasing of skinship.

in all, this was a heck of an entertaining ride that i would have easily given 10 stars, if not for the slightly lacklustre final week. the ending though, stuck its landing.

absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a fun and lighthearted show!!

ery entertaining to watch

Honestly I was intrigued in watching this drama. I watched it because of Han Lee because she is a comedian and I watched most of her dramas and movies are very funny. At first I find it awkward that thread stars won't click because of the big age gap in real life but they prove me wrong they really are good actors for making me kilig in their romance.

The storyline is very entertaining to watched at first you find it boring but later on as the story progress it becomes interesting to watched.

This drama is a blend of comedy, revenge and romance.

Refreshing and quite original

I will say this script had a very good balance: There was funny moments, emotional and thought inducing scenes, fight scenes and some light romantic scenes.
How the screenwriters managed to tell the rather tragic life of Joseon widows without it adding a heavy emotional feel to the series was well executed.

It was a refreshing take on a historical drama, with unconventional female protagonist.
As for the FL, I liked her in One the Woman, and she gives a good performance here as well; she suits this kind of role where she can utilise her comedic timing.
Kim Mi Kyung (her mother in law) was brilliant as always.
