One of my favorite short drama yet!!!

I love this drama from th beginning to the end. It wasn't too slow, or too fast. The pace was just right. I adore the romance and relationships between the main leads, and side couples. It was also nice to see the sons and father's relationship as well. The plot was entertaining and easy to follow. It tells about the FL, who got cursed by the butterfly curse. The ML loves and adores the FL that he would do anything for her, as far as going to take the poison from her to him. He's sort of selfless in this sense, because he loves his wife and doesn't want to lose her. They are like a pair of butterfly lovers, who does everything together and takes care of each other. It as an open-ending, so watch it with an open mind. To me, it was a happy ending :).

Love the music, cinematography, acting and chemistry between all the leads.

Will watch again. 8/10.

Only last episode confused me

Couples was living happily . Three years almost completed of their togetherness . On the day of their marriage anniversary , the male lead character came to know about butterflies clan and during that time he came to know that his wife was among them . He tried his best to save his wife but he can't . So only option had remained ....I don't want to be spoiler so would not write much .
The last part of second last episode when the bell rang she turned and smile. So as viewers we assumed that he came back .
In last episode was not continued with the last part of 19th episode .
It was shown that they were living happily and were doing all types of house chores . And in the end it had shown that she was sleeping and suddenly wake up and saw his husband with a doubt so it felt like that she was seeing a dream ,that means till now what had happened with her was not real . It was her dream. Last part confused me a lot.
In the drama time to time it had shown two couples that how they met ,then they married and they had a daughter . That small story I liked it.

Beautiful relationships, costumes, cinematography, music

Beautiful cinematography, outstanding OST, loving, romantic relationships (both main couple and secondary couple), and the shorter format makes it well edited and easy/fast to watch. In the latter half, the relationship between the big bad Marquis and his wife is surprisingly entertaining. There are also cameos from couples from the director's other short dramas, and now I have to go search for them. The voices of the main and secondary couples are also soft and lovely to listen to.

Highly recommended. I rarely watch any c-drama all the way through, but this drama was utterly charming and beautiful. The only downside was the lighting/makeup on very close kissing closeups.

Sweet love story

This series was recommended on reddit for its story & romance scene. I enjoy it & would say that it's one of the few good mini series.

What I like
1. Romance - I love it when male lead is attuned to female lead's needs and always prioritise her first. Love the scenes when he did housework. They are quite affectionate with each other. I also like second lead romance though I wish there were more scenes focusing on their growing romance.
2. Butterfly slave plot - Fascinating though I wish the writers had not gotten rid of it so viewers can see how characters accept the condition and become more empathetic.
3. Rain Lu - great acting. She conveyed various emotions well from innocence, delight to upset and disappointment.
4. Length & duration - I don't fancy historical drama but I like this series because it's short & concise.
5. Cameo - I like cameos from The Killer is also Romantic. Already have it in my watch list so I am going to watch that series next after completing this review.

What I dislike
1. The 3rd act - I feel it is too rushed especially the last 3 episodes. I'd like to know more about Lord Wu'an struggles.
2. Flashbacks - I know it's important as viewers got to learn about how Chengfeng & Qianyue's relationship developed but those episodes did not excite me.
3. Chemistry - There are many romantic scenes between 2 main leads but I don't feel much sexual chemistry coming from the actors.

Favourite scene
When Qianyue appeared as butterfly slave to Princess Baozhu. Beautifully shot & highly suspenseful.

Green flags abound

No fillers, jealousies or manufactured misunderstandings together with well paced action and beautiful main couple whats not to like?

The general, Ling Chang Feng. is a walking green flag. I loved this character he displays courage and loyalty and is willing to go against the rules and his father to protect his wife. His attitude, when she is pregnant, is exemplary and the empathy he portrays is heartwarming.

His wife, Tang Qian Yue, also displays wonderful traits. She is willing to undergo a dreadful 'cure' to remain by his side and chooses to risk her life to enable their child to be born.

Watching their daily interactions and the concern they feel for each other cements their marriage as a true love match.
Of course the story is not just about their sweetness and with the supernatural element, clever dreamlike visuals, great cinematography and SFX create an otherworldly atmosphere. Their is an interesting second couple, great support characters and a complementary OST.

As if in a dream.

This is the first drama I have watched in a long time. The initial premise caught my eye and as the drama went on, the resulting threads that spin off from this central betrayal kept my interest. That said, the main couple lost me around the sixteenth episode mark and the secondary couple kept me watching. Both of them fall into interesting and--rare (?)-- tropes.

The first couple is about a righteous general whose wife turns out to be a member of a demonic clan. However, if you are expecting a drama about contrasting principles or the struggle of incompatible lifestyles despite pure marital love, you won't find it here. It goes a slightly more mainstream route and the conflict is mostly about staying together in the face of outside evil. This is still executed well and the episodes that show how they got to their present state are the most captivating part of their love story. For example--the scene in which he buys her red-and-white flower shoes and puts them on for her is quite beautiful. The contrast between a civilized man and chaotic woman is played around with in a fun way during these episodes. Overall, they start off as a very innocent couple. This quality slowly goes away as they face more trials (you'll know what I mean when you see it) and hence I began skipping around on their scenes.

The second couple is about a princess who is forcibly married to her first love. She possesses Qilin blood, which makes her a coveted item throughout the series. It seems everyone in Chang'an wants her blood, including her villainous (or so you think) general hubby. These two kept me watching till the very end. The hook with them is a simplistic question about the morality of taking advantage of an innocent. But the drama manages to complicate this question with a few tragic backstories and watching the eventual romantic answer to this question is riveting. My favorite moment with them is definitely their first meeting, set during a magical night festival with the usual effects of sparklers, candied hawthorne, gold-tinseled booths, and lanterns.

Watch this if you are in the mood for an intense, whirlwind romantic drama. It will surely fulfill all your expectations in that case! I was lucky enough to pick this up at the exact right moment.

Best Short Lenght Chinese Drama!!!!

The story is brilliantly written, the action is on point, the OST is chef's kiss and it has a healthy main's relation and a happy ending, and that is precisely what I want in a drama, so it has everything to have a 10 «/10 in every point, but that finale stops me from that...

That finale seemed a bit rushed and I wanted one episode where they explored the Butterfly curse from the prespective of the ML and a episode where they explored the pain of the ML and FL separation instead of giving us two filler episodes before the finale where the ML returned seemilgy unafected by the butterfly curse...

That takes me a bit out of the finale and that is the only reason I don't give it a 10/10 on everything and can only give a 9/10

Love concord all - excellent short binge-able drama.

"Butterflied Lover" is a short historical web-drama about the romance between two lovers who overcame all obstacles to remain together. It is a sweet binge-able drama about commitment and the love they share during adversities.

It was great to see that the ML went out of his way to find a cure for his wife and not lose their child; he ended up infecting himself with the phenomenon. That is love, love concord all.

Overall it is not a bad drama to binge, and the main CP's acting is good. I give it an 8.0 rating. The OST helped elevate the drama.

Romantic Circle

The most romantic drama I've ever seen.

If anything, this drama instill the elements of romantic to its core. The cinematography, the camera panning, the scenes, the voice echos, the colours,.. it's just, romantic. Even in the sad scenes, the upset scenes, more so the happy scenes, all of it are just romantic you'll feel kinda fluff, kinda melancholy.

The plot is easy to follow, overall story mainly follows the female lead as a butterfly slave hence the title, so it's kinda forgivable that most pov revolves around her. The world building is interesting and I personally think the actors/ actresses chosen fit well with the character. I love the second lead couple tho, they're the typical one-sided love story where they eventually fall in love.

But let's talk about the ending. I don't know if it's intended to feel like a dream from start to finish, or just its ends. My thoughts are, if it's from start to finish is a dream, it will be too much and too wasteful of a plot. If the dream is only the ending, means the story is not yet complete, she still waits for her husband and it will become an open ending story.
The other possibilty is, they really survive and have a happy ending but honestly it's a boring end. That Yuan popo said, she is one in a million but then the other two survive? So she's not even one in three (1/3) now. It breaks the logic immersion and honestly I'm disappointed. For the first time in my four years of becoming an avid drama watcher, I am expecting a sad ending. The writer can kill these husbands and the drama is a good and worthy watch. Writer needs a bit of a courage I see.

Last note, if you watch the last eps, last scene, and rewatch the first eps, first scene, it is the exact spitting scene and I love that. It shows they study their drama well and it was so lovable to know that. That is also why I call it romantic circle because the whole drama is soo romantic and it has a perfect loop. ✨

Love is a Willingness to Sacrifice

despite being the short length drama, this show truly proves that you can make a good story without missing anything. storywise, this drama is better than some of long-form dramas out there.

i’d give this a solid 10 if only they would make a clear ending for the last 2 eps and explain more about the situation. i’d like to see Chang Feng and Qian Yue hug for the last time, and she welcomes him with, “…you’re back.”

but of course, the scriptwriter and producer have their own ideas, though it’s still lacking for me and i wish it could be better like some of their previous works (A Familiar Stranger, for example).

i’m honestly not a fan of short length drama because they usually can’t captivate me with their story; either it’s too rush, too many plot holes, bad acting, poor cinematography, bad costumes, etc. but after watching this show, i feel like this drama is so much better than some of full length dramas i’ve seen with the traffic actors.

this drama hooked me since the very first episode. what i liked about this drama:
- ML and FL have a great chemistry. i love their eyes and how they love each other.
- good SML and SFL. well, SML was an anti-hero, but he slowly softened towards the SFL.
- good plot. it’s not extravagant or anything, but really a good one.
- when ML and FL cried, i cried. when SML and SFL cried, i cried too. it’s not happen often. i watched this drama after knowing the ending and getting so many spoilers, so because of that usually i wouldn’t cry when the sad scenes appear because i already know what will happen after. but in this one, i cried a lot and i’d give it applause to the actors! well done. especially SFL, i really love her and i can’t imagine what her life would be after knowing the truth in the end.

for a low budget production, this one have a beautiful cinematography, costumes, and settings. this is my most favorite short drama after A Familiar Stranger and The Deliberations of Love. i just wish they’d make a clearer ending like AFS and TDOL, but i guess i’ll just take it for what it is.

if you love those i mentioned, you’ll surely love this one as well.
