Not just a classic romantic Korean drama

Very well produced k drama. There is no unnecessary plot (side stories), it is funny but at the same time it approaches a sensitive topic in a very good manner: job hunting, job opportunities for elderly and work environment in South Korea. Other problems, such as corruption and illicit activities are also part of the plot, but the way this drama handles it makes it easy to watch, one can really immerse oneself in the story. It is original and funny. Love, comedy, mystery, suspense, awareness of real life situations: this show has it all! I have watched MANY dramas and this one is no doubt one of my favourites.

Almost dropped this half way through episode one and wasn't going to give it a chance at all only I'm so glad I did!

Not a rom-com fan so have had to fast forward through a few predictable boring moments between Mr Cold and Miss Night, but on the most part each episode has been fine.

With the main leads (young ones) I have to say I'm not really into their dynamics at all nor the hot/cold shoulder treatment or whimsical hurt female after being rejected or whatever the situation might be.

The humour in this is great, however, and the timing is on point.

I've actually enjoyed the relationship between Miss Day and the second lead - it is so hard case.

Watching their scenes over and over again is something I could do quite easily just for the laugh. For example, the cafe scene in Episode 9.

Am also enjoying the true crime mystery to it, but not how there always seems to be a connection between the leads from crossing paths somehow in their childhoods.

Anyhow, 6 episodes to go and I'm hoping this keeps me invested until the end!

Recommended!

Basic Story + SLS (Spoiler Free)

SLS HARD!! Both MLs are flawed, which is nice bc it's very realistic, but I don't love how savior-y the first lead is with the FL. The second lead is kind, attentive, and playful. He cares from the jump, and notices first when the FL is upset or missing. He also seemed to have been intrigued by her/fallen for her personality initially when she was in old-mode which i found cute and unique lol.

Otherwise, the drama is very cut and dry, and follows the same template most of them do. It took me 3-4 episodes to be interested in the 2 main characters at all. I think if there wasn't the gimmick of her having the old curse, I wouldn't have kept watching. It's pretty predictable, and the pacing drags at times. I do think the actress who plays the FL while she's old did a great job, and it must have been so fun to film some of the scenes. Made me think of old people more cutely XD

Flawed....but still entertaining

Oh, Miss Night and Day...what opportunities you had.

The premise of MNaD is very entertaining -- a young woman gets transformed into the older "ajhumma" version of herself during the day allowing her to get a "senior person" job at a cute prosecutor's office. And of course there's a *drumroll* serial killer! And an opening title sequence that is suspiciously close to ripping off Sailor Moon! The drama delivers through the first half...maybe even two thirds...of the show. And then it just kind of starts to unravel. At that point you've invested 12 hours into the show, so might as well finish it, right?

Major spoilers ahead, but here are my thoughts:

- The cat. What was with that cat? We follow the cat and follow down a well to get transformed...then we try to find the cat...then we just drop the cat plot point? Was the cat the guardian spirit of her dead aunt? Why expend all that time trying to find the cat in the first half of the show and then just have it pop up twice in the second half to enigmatically walk around? Was it the mechanism that turned young Female Lead into her ajhumma self? Was it like Luna in Sailor Moon -- hence the Sailor Moon title sequence and the cat in the logo? I have questions.

- Casting decisions. I liked the cast just fine. My biggest issue was the young FL and old FL had drastically different acting styles. Young FL was very wooden and had about two expressions. Old FL was very dynamic and expressive and much more entertaining to watch. It was hard to believe that the two actresses were representing the same character because they portrayed it so differently. There also wasn't much chemistry between the young FL and the Male Lead...but I chalk that up to her wooden-ness.

- The plot. I love a good serial killer story and K-dramas seem to love them too. I always get a bit concerned when a serial killer plot line pops up, though, because it never seems to get wrapped enough. MNaD fell in line with the incomplete villain arc. I thought at first we would have a decent resolution, then when the villain was chasing young FL she (the villain) starts exhibiting symptoms of psychosis and possibly some kind of illness? Um...what's that? Is she sick? Why is she trying not to fall over? It was oh-so-perfectly timed to allow young FL opportunities to escape. Ok, that's great and all...but without an explanation of her apparent illness, it seems like a plot hole devised to allow young FL to escape a situation she otherwise wouldn't be able to escape. Oh no -- she won't have time to untie herself to escape the drug needle...except the villain falls over RIGHT THEN allowing FL time to escape? Convenient. Oh no -- FL is on the ground unable to escape and villain is coming at her with an axe...but then villain sees the ghost of FL's dead aunt and has a full blown conversation with her allowing FL time to recover and get the upper hand? Convenient.

- The romance. In my opinion, don't watch the show for the romance. It has one...and it starts out strong. But by the time they realize their feelings for each other it feels stale and weird. I think it boils down to the lack of chemistry. The relationship between the second female lead and second male lead was much more interesting and entertaining in my opinion. The failed romance between young FL and the idol doing his military service was also kind of weird. I dunno...this would have been a fine drama without the romance.

So those are several paragraphs of me complaining. I mean, I liked the show enough to finish it. I **have** quit a drama on the next to last episode before (*cough* looking at you, My Demon) so I liked this well enough to see it to the end. It's light, fluffy, with a few dark twists...it's worth a watch for the fun premise if nothing else.

Imagine you turn into an old version of yourself during the day

Honestly this reminded me so much of Howl’s moving castle. Though the premise isn’t the same (where the character in the anime was old constantly and only young again when she accepts herself for herself), the concept of the FL turning into an older version of herself still held the similarity together.

This was such a weird concept for a K-Drama especially since the FL was going to work for the ML whilst simultaneously liking him- which means the older version of herself crushed on the normal young ML, plus the second lead also crushed on her and even showed fondness of her when she was an old lady? It’s so silly and although describing it like that sounds crazy, I guess watching it made it look a little less creepy lol..

So the FL turned into an old lady during the day and back to herself during the night. I always wondered how the ML and the parents never questioned once why they couldn’t see her during the day. I get being busy because of work (since that was her only excuse), but still…this lasted for so long and nobody questioned it?! Especially the ML…considering the fact that he’s a prosecutor who also investigates a little on the side, how was he not questioning this sooner? But I digress.

Overall I really enjoyed the show, it was hilarious!!! I recognised the ML actor immediately because of Mr.Queen K-drama. He’s such a good actor for comedies, I wish he gets casted in more future shows- and please…give him roles similar to Mr.Queen…the bland/cold ML personality types don’t suit him imo. The only time he looked good in the show was when he blushed and giggled over the FL hehe

On another note, I loved the main couple so much that the second lead didn’t tug on my heartstrings at all. Maybe a little bit but the show made it clear that the FL never had feelings for the second lead so it was easy to ship her with the ML.

And also, man…I don’t know how to feel about the best friend with the older guy who’s best friends with the ML…they just…do not fit AT ALL.

He looks like he could be her dad…genuinely the last thing I thought would happen. Did the writers write that in last minute? There was no spark between them the first time they met and then the second time suddenly something happened? Lol…I don’t know, it just felt so random and maybe it was added for comedy purposes but the fact that they’re serious about it made it a little uhhh…I don’t know, uncomfortable I guess.

She looks in her mid 20s and he looks in his early 50s…she’s a naive youtuber and he’s an old dude who was already divorced once. Don’t really get the appeal of them getting together.

Anyway, I’m rating this high because this is the K-Drama that got me out of my K-Drama block. I was struggling to finish everything I started but this one caught me good. I loved it! Comedy in here was top tier, I laughed a lot, especially in the last episode where ML placed his hand on the cactus while trying to flirt with the FL LMAOOO

Overall pretty good!!! I recommend it!

Strange concept, well executed, nearly perfect finish

I'm all over the place with this one. The premise led me to believe this drama would be goofy and ridiculous, but that was not the case at all. The story was very engaging and the final episode was the best of any drama in recent memory. The finale wraps things up so elegantly and cleanly that it should serve as a model for every other drama. I will have to think about this rating for a while, but it is quite good, quite ridiculous in some ways, and nearly perfect in others. Well done!!

Sheer enjoyment

I thoroughly enjoyed this fantasy . Fantasy is the key word in this drama . It is not meant to be realistic . It is light, funny , entertaining with a dose of murder mystery thrown in .
The ending left me smiling and pleased and charmed with the outcome . The two women actors playing the part of Min Jin were wonderful to watch , trying to cope with their respective situations , capable and full of stamina and desire to do well .
An unusual story , well executed and played by all the cast . Choi Jin hyuk very attractive and convincing in the role .

Great show but with a dash of annoyance

You might be wondering why I am saying thus, let's start....

In general the show was a good one, with a good plot line but ended up missing the mark somehow. Lim sun was the best character followed by Ji ung right hand man( the investigator) and the rest, honestly Lee mi Jin kept on annoying me most of the time and I do not know why, I do not know is it the fact that she had studied for 7years but still was not curious enough to know why she got to change during the day and what would be the purpose until the last episodes of the show!!!!! a 7 for effort

STORY
The show had a solid plot not a unique one per say but could have done better. It was like two stories in one but felt disjointed somehow, they tried to weave them together but fell short, like her changing to the old ahjumma but still not knowing why she changed still baffles me and I have already finished the show, it made it so basic , i feel less episodes would be better and just finish up the story...
The whole missing case from 24 years ago and we still have no vague idea why it happened again, why the killer decided to kill again after 24 years then how lin sum and lee mi jin are connected to this. They could have stuck to one story line and flesh it out from there and find a way to fix the puzzles.

CAST
Lim sun was my favourite one , very funny that was a seasoned actress right there, If only her character had more depth. Then everything would have been great
Lee mi Jin was just annoying me for some odd reason I do not know if it was the script if it was the the storyline, but her character was a bore, she was good at crying scenes and being all sad and all but the fact that she had studied for 7 years, done various part times but she was never curious about anything like why she had changed how she fit in, what happened to her aunt especially now that she was working at the prosecutor's office.... Never solved anything.

The prosecutor, did a solid job stuck to his part but honestly never questioning the identity of Lee mi Jin until the 14/15 episode was a small disappointment from one of the best prosecutors, now the acting was great, subtle reactions and great screen presence

The other actors, the investigator, even the killer, the parents , the friend did an awesome job, they were able to support the cast in a way that made the show at least memorable to watch, funny moments and honestly some even outshone the main characters, like the killer loved her acting it was amazing...

The music, honestly i dont remember it, but i guess it was okay.
would I rewatch it? Not really , but I feel like the show would have been great if they had just connected the show well

so far so good you can watch it if you have nothing to watch would you be missing something great? yes maybe the comedy part but a solid 6.5 for me for this show...

Short on romance, but some very laugh out loud moments

Liked:
1) Lee Jung Eun as Im Sun made this show for me. I've always loved her as an actor, but wow, she totally shone in this role! Her comedic timing is brilliant and she's very good at physical comedy. She was strong when needed, and vulnerable when necessary. If I WERE to watch it again, I'd probably just watch the scenes with her in it.
2) The Im Sun/Ko Won relationship. I loved it. I appreciated that the writers showed a little bit of what is required of an idol, and I liked how he learned her secret early on. Their scenes were wonderful, and I liked how they showed him most with Im Sun rather than Mi Jin.
3) Choi Jin Hyuk. Always.
4) Mi Jin's best friend. I loved her supportiveness, and they had some emotional scenes together.
5) Mi Jin's parents. At times they were irritatingly over the top, but in the end, I enjoyed watching them. Lee Hak Chan as Mi Jin's father, this may sound strange, but I love his face.
6) The mystery and the red herrings. I was surprised by the culprit, and that doesn't often happen.
7) The OST, especially Jung Eun Ji's Stay. She has a hauntingly beautiful singing voice.

Not so much:
1) Jung Eun Ji as Lee Mi Jin. Her pursed lip talking got on my nerves. Was she trying to be cute? Pitiful?
2) The relationship between Mi Jin's best friend and the ML's office mate. He was WAY too old for her!
3) The lack of romance. Literally the last few minutes of the last episode. I'll include lack of chemistry between leads. I couldn't even root for them to get together; I just wanted the show to be over by that time.
4) The styling. ML - all I could focus on was his ridiculously pointy sideburns. 2FL - terrible haircut, possibly achieved by using hedge trimmers. Mi Jin's mom - her red lipstick was absolutely caked on.
5) The female prosecutor served no purpose.
6) WAY too many flashbacks! The show could have been shortened if they'd left most of them out.

So, all in all, I enjoyed it. It's a fun watch if you want some laughs, but just look for too much romance.

Miss Night and Day was really fun and I loved that the centre of it was the female lead, and even her friendship with her bestie was more important than the romance. The romance was lacking, I didn’t even care if she wound up with the prosecutor. He gave up on her so easily. The funniest scenes involved the FL and the second ML (the kpop idol) - I really wish that they had explored that more. Not only that, but I wish that they had really leaned into the dual personality when the ML found out, instead of... the lameness of what they did. I would've loved to see them go on dates and him not care that she was "older" (the way the 2ML did!). Also, the best friend not getting to meet her idol was stupid - can the FL even be considered a best friend if she doesn't even think to introduce them, given that he would've been willing and it would've made her friend ecstatic? I really loved the premise of the show, and the acting was wonderful, I just wish they did more with it.

Morning n night

This drama is good overall.
I love the theme, the story, and the cast.
Its kinda simple and basic but honestly, there are times when you just wanna watch a drama that's simple. I love the comedy part especially the old version of Eun Ji. I love her so much! I've seen her in numerous dramas that I love and it's nice to see her as the main-ish.
She excites me and inspires me. This drama did give me a life lesson about youth and maturity.
She said something about youth sucks because we don't have the freedom to do what we want. But in reality, being old doesn't give you a lot of freedom too.
Just enjoy life to the fullest as days go by.

Overalls, I'm really happy with the ending and the story. Every time he smiles, he makes me want to smile to HAHAH. His little wrinkles are so kyut whenever he smiles.

Of course therws some cons to this drama but sometimes, you just gotta appreciate the things we enjoy about the shows. There is no perfect drama. (There is but not a lot lol.)

I was not fully satisfied with the story

After watching all the episodes, I believe the story could have been better developed. The romantic scenes lacked depth and could have been more engaging. Additionally, the excuses and coincidences needed more logical explanations to make the plot believable. Overall, the drama left me unsatisfied and often frustrated. Despite some good moments, it fell short of my expectations and missed opportunities to deliver a more compelling narrative. It had potential but didn't fully live up to it. It doesn't has any rewatch value.
