The upcoming Korean movie Rebound is scheduled to release in April.
Rebound tells a touching and prodigious true story of the 2012 National High School Basketball Championship, where a new coach and a ragtag team of 6 players, considered to be the weakest basketball team, defy all odds and rise to the KBA National Tournament.
The movie is based on the real story of the 2012 basketball team of Busan Joongang High School.
The movie casts Ahn Jae Hong (famous for his performances in Fight for My Way and Be Melodramatic), Kim Do Wan (who held roles in hit K-dramas like Start-Up and My Roommate Is a Gumiho), Jung Gun Joo (remembered as Lee Do Hwa from Extraordinary You), Lee Shin Young (who played Park Kwang Beom in Crash Landing on You and will be seen in Dr. Romantic Season 3 in a supporting role), and rising stars Kim Min and Kim Taek.
Rebound is directed by Jang Hang Joon, who helmed famous K-dramas like Pinocchio and My Love from the Star, among others.
In an interview, director Jang said "Most of the Korean sports movies produced here were mainly about athletes who overcome obstacles and exhibit sportsmanship to achieve success. But a story about the Jung Ang High School basketball team, which seemed unlikely to pass the first round of the national league, made it to the finals, aroused my curiosity", he said. He further commented, "Basketball is a fading sport in Korea, but I hope that the film will spark renewed interest in it".
The Signal and Kingdom writer Kim Eun Hee and the award-winning screenwriter Kwon Sung Hui (who also penned the screenplay for The Spy Gone North) teamed up to write the screenplay of the upcoming sports movie.
