Originally named Zhen Yan, his parents were killed when he was a child, and he ended up in Ghost Valley. In order to survive and to take his revenge, he becomes chief of Ghost Valley and considers those of jianghu to be two-faced, preaching kindness and justice but secretly despicable. To put his plan for vengeance in action, he uses the excuse of Hanging Ghost's theft of the Glazed Armor as an excuse to command all three thousand of Qingya Mountain's ghosts to leave Ghost Valley. After meeting Zhou Zishu, the two redeem each other and heal from their respective pasts.
