Lucyw260:I know it was great but I can't help be worried that he never got his memories back so the ending is bittersweet in my opinion.
Rest assured that he will get his memories back, it has already been implied in the last episode :) the more he goes closer to his family the more the memories comes back. When he hugged Eunha he immediately recalled those moments with her as a baby. I firmly believe he will!
Glad tho that they kept it realistic with the gradual return of memories instead of magically coming back all at once.haha
usernamenotfoundXX:Anyway, with this reasoning I am fine with the ending but wished they could have made it longer. Just throw away that melodrama tag and give us the full cheesy moments.lol
Same same same!! Although Hyun Su admitted that he 'feels nervous' when he's around Ji Won, I find it sad that he doesn't fully understand why and how he's feeling that way. I think their relationship would've flourished after all the drama if he didn't lose his memories. I just wanted them to be happy, even happier than how they used to be since the mess is gone. Instead of giving Ji Won the Hyun Su that she deserves, she was just burdened for a while, but typical Ji Won still ended up with him so I'm not complaining about that part. Since I can't really do anything about the amnesia thing, I really wish the writers showed us how Hyun Su and Ji Won went back to each other, which would've given justice to Hyun Su's rebirth and convince himself that he truly loves Ji Won. Ji Won said that she would be happy if Hyun Su is happy, but they could be happy together and I really wanted that to happen. I guess a cheesy ending would've been great at least for this series, considering everything they went through.
Can someone help me to understand just one thing in the last episode? Even tho I rewatched the last episode three times already, I still couldn't get what Ji Won found out after listening to the recording again when she got home (After meeting with that old fellow in the town who said he would testify)
She clearly wanted to learn if Hyun Su was lying or telling the truth (when he said he forgave him), but what's also bothering me, is the car scene when he asked Ji Won if she can tell whether he is lying or telling the truth again. I thought he was being too mean towards Ji Won when he said he lied earlier and it was too easy, he has learnt how to use emotions to use it for his advantage! (only to push her away by showing how evil he could be, his real self) and he was later on being honest about having feelings for her even tho he doesn't remember anything about her, He seemed to br crying cuz he was feeling lots of guilt for all the past years deceiving her yet she forgiving him for it all!
Please can anyone elabrate on this? Sorry for making it very long to explain!

That scene is actually more of a product placement. That recording thing is a new feature of the Samsung mobile. You can see the heavy advertisement (altho still subtle and not annoying) of Samsung in this series, for example that scene with the Detective Team Leader writing notes using the phone etc.
Nevertheless, the emphasis on the scene is also on Hyunsu's words about doing what you want or else you will hate yourself. Hyunsu as BaekHeesung never really was able to do things or react to them as he would have naturally wanted, as he pointed out to Jiwon there a dark side to him that he never really showed ever as he had the perfect guy facade on the whole 14 yrs. We all know as viewers that regardless of this Hyunsu has been anyway happy with his life with Jiwon. However Hyunsu (with the amnesia) find it hard to believe that that happy life with Jiwon is real and not just a product of his manipulation. Again going back to his words that if you do not do what you want you will end up hating yourself, which makes me think that he is assuming he was full of self hatred when he was living as Heesung (also there was a line somewhere in the episode where he (Hyunsu) said he hates his Heesung persona) . But then again if he truly hated his life as Heesung how come he feels this strong attraction for his wife. Which is real? this feelings he has for his forgotten wife and the possibility that what they had was genuine or his prejudice on himself that given the fake identity he had made none of it could have been real.
As he had demonstrated to Jiwon he had programmed himself to be manipulative of others and Jiwon couldn't even detect it. If Jiwon couldn't even tell that he was lying, how could she even be so sure that their love is real. As for himself, he admits he feels something for her but confused and couldn't trust his own sincerity as lying and manipulating already became his second nature. And if his feelings were actually genuine, how could he have subjected a woman he loves to such lies.
In short. He feels something but was overthinking it as he couldn't remember what went thru his Heesungpersona's mind.
Also going back to that scene after hearing the recording again. Jiwon finally understood that she cannot force Hyunsu to come back to her. To Hyunsu (with amnesia), the equivalent of going back to Jiwon is rejecting his real self and being accepting of this Heesung persona whom he supposedly hate. (Again we all know he doesn't truly hate himself or his life and as manipulative and bad as he imagined, but this is not known to him due to the amnesia). Therefore in order for Hyunsu to be happy Jiwon decided to let him go (see scene with Eunha and also the visit to Haesu in prison).
But ofcourse in the end we see Hyunsu overcoming his prejudice over himself and coming into terms with the idea that his life as Heesung was real and filled with happiness too. He finally trusted his own feeling and instinct which had literally led him to places he shared memories with Jiwon and finally to their own house.
And true to the words of the Director during the interview, it is the story of a man who has lost his way over and over again in life and yet in the end found his way back home.
That was soo helpful, thank you so much, dear fellow, I did actually notice the note thing but never thought of it as a product adverts, that makes more sense, and yeah I have seen those scenes that come after that, Ji Won did say she will let go and she 'just wants Him to be happy' so ofc she can't force him to go back to his Heesung persona. The scene where it rained, he remembered how he supposedly had been manipulative of Ji Won and had said to the parents "Ji Won believes in what she say, so I can see through her". He couldn't trust himself cuz his memories were getting back only pieces by pieces without full context.
That scene where he went back to his home just too beautiful! and when he saw the notebook filled with carefully written detail about Ji Won, I think that's when he became convinced enough that he really cared about her even then!
Thank you again for the explanations, it really cleared up my curiosity about that scene! I appreciated your great help.

Okay, so my take on the scene in the car is that Hyun Su is dealing with two internal conflicts:
- He's feeling emotions for the first time, but he has lost the memories to provide a context for them, which makes identifying them extremely difficult for him. Everyone around him is telling him he loved his wife and are pointing out the habits that he has maintained from his marriage, but the primary emotion he's feeling is frustration at not being able to understand why he's he's feeling compelled to do these things. So while his love is the root cause for his frustration, he's struggling to get past the frustration to feel the love.
- He knows he is a master manipulator, capable of getting people to do what he wants without them realizing it. He has no memories of his relationship with his wife, so his assumption is that he manipulated her into being with him and that his entire relationship was an act of survival so that he would not get caught. He assumes she's in love with a fake version of him, and, therefore, will only be hurting herself by trying to find her husband in him because the current him has no desire or reason to manipulate her into being in a relationship.
So the take away from these two things is that he is intentionally pushing her away because being around her is overwhelming and frustrating (see point 1) and because he is trying to be a good person and get her to realize that the version of him that she loved was probably all an a ct, an act he doesn't want to maintain now that he has no reason to hide his identity (see point 2).
During the interview Hyun Su tells the other man that he won't force him to testify and that the man should "make a decision for [him]self so that [he] won't hate [him]self." Although Hyun Su used these words as a manipulation tactic, after the incident in the car, when Ji Won listens to the recording of the interview and hears these words again, she decides to set Hyun Su free rather than try to force him into remembering her or being the husband she missed.
Thank you so much for clarifying those points out! I noticed his frustration from the first scene when Ji Won had visited him to supposedly cheering him up, but ended up burdening him for pushing him to say what she wants to hear, and he said he is too overwhelmed cuz he doesn't have the memory but suddenly rose to fame, gets pitied by others and has someone who he deceived yet doesn't hate him nor does she agree he is a bad jerk! I felt how conflicted he must have been but the car scene was too intense I almost forgot that point! He must really want to be a good person now that he doesn't need to hide, manipulate and deceive others just to survive! Haesu previously had mentioned that Hyun Su, is not capable of loathing others, that's why I thought even tho he said "I forgive you and don't feel burdened" as a manipulative tact, he probably didn't hate the guy as much as he told Ji Won that 'He wanted to kill the guy right there if not for the consequences'
He just lied there to push her away! I thought.
Thanks again :)

Yes. This is so true, glad you pointed it out! :)
I don't know why others are worried he will not get his memories back. He was already getting them back and were confusing the heck out of him.
And the bad thing is, those conversations he had (roughly 14 yrs of it, prior to finally admitting he loves Jiwon) were actually made with him thinking that he really doesn't feel anything for her.
No wonder he couldn't reconcile what his body feels and the things he had been saying on his memory flashbacks.

Yeah while there were only a few weeks of his life he had admitted he 'Loved Ji won, the rest he only thought he was using her for his own sake, which was not really true, there was always sincerity even if it was mixed with manipulation at times. Ji Won telling him "He had warms in his heart" brought that to light, that even if he did wrong all this time lying and deceiving her!, he was still a good person to her at least!

yes! it's so complex, right? even explaining and putting into words the complexities and layers of this drama is difficult.haha Lee Joongki should really be given an award with how he managed to deliver this amazing character.
He totally deserves it! Daesang at Baeksang is only right to be given to him! and I wholeheartedly hope this drama win the best screenwriter's/ drama/ actor and actress awards this year. I really loved every minute of it! No political power struggle, no 2nd lead syndrome (love triangle), no naked shower scene! just a magical ride of a pure love story between two unlikely to fall in love people and an AMAZING kid between them!
Sairens:I did not like it and that is it. Shoot to head, amnesia, break-up. Really? They wasted whole 1h 18m.
Oh..I'm so happy theres someone has the same thought with me..I agree they wasted whole 1h 18m.. I already guess that he will got amnesia bla bla bla..really?? I like 15 episode and think this is very nice drama..but turn off in last eps..
when I think the man who's love his wife very much is gone..thats really broke my heart.. the man who's can kill someone when he knew he already lost his reason to live..
