That ^^^^ and I think PrettyCarEye made a good point when she said that KDrama have a Hollywood feel to them. Japanese Dramas tend to look much cheaper in comparision and if you can't look past that, it might be hard for you to get into them. I think Korean and Japanese dramas both tend to focus on completely different aspects too though (as in, setting a different emphasis). This always shows best whenever Japan does a remake from a korean drama and the other way around. If you compare Hana Kimi to To the Beautiful You, Hana Kimi heavily focussed on friend-/companionship and the dorm wars, whereas TTBY was mainly about the love triangle and competition and it was much more serious too. Same with Hana Yori Dango and Boys Before Flowers. Or You're beautiful VS Ikemen desu ne - the relationship between the bandleader and his mother was for the most part similiar but how it was handled in the end was different. List goes on The Devil VS. Maou, The Queen's classroom etc. So I guess it also depends on what you personally prefer and what you personally value more because I think Japan and Korea have pretty different social values. I really love the variety though :)! I'd never want to limit myself to just one of them. I do have preferences though depending on the genre. For example for family drama I really prefer Japanese. Or comedy! I just like the humour better and Japan isn't afraid to just go completely batshit. But in the end, for me the drama's quality depends on the story, the acting, the overall production and whether you personally "click with" the drama.

It's just Japanese dramas have more of those teen-weird dramas. And many of them are remakes of a manga/anime or something.
I guess teens like those more. I never watched that many Japanese dramas and I still put them aside but I liked/like the remakes of my favorite animes. ^^

Besides. Don't get mad. But I think most Japanese guys are kind of short and ugly.. I'am not saying all. There are exceptions. Believe me. Like the guy from the new remake of Itazura Na Kiss- Tokyo. He was quite HOT. But I guess that's because he's mixed blood. :D

For me you are wrong i'm 15 and i think koreans are the best i watched hana kimi for expectations for it to be good due to all this great reviews about it but i didn't like at all i have the same opinion as yours about the japanese actors i don't like them and then from hana kimi i decided not to watch anymore japanese dramas...
It is only my opinion...

Besides me :D I don't like Japanese dramas. I've never seen one and never will. Because It doesn't look that much interesting to me, and I'm not interested in japanese. I'm more of a Korean fan

I know but, I just don't like them :\\ They don't look interesting but boring. Sorry to say :\\

I think its opposite about age. I never picked anything 'weird' yet but all J-shows that I watched had older audience. I agree they make more 'weird' dramas but they also make more meaningful shows compared to Koreans. Koreans can't touch them in that category, they're far behind in this...

Korean - I picked most of my shows from here and also my dropped list is almost made of Korean shows. All I can say they're too colorful, flashy...
Japan - Smaller list compared to Koreans but higher success ratio! Love their shows! Very simple!!!
Taiwan - Seen only one so no comments...
China/HK - I have seen many in childhood but can't remember at all so no comments...

I kind of agree. They look boring.
All(most) of their dramas are either about a house mom, a detective, or some teen-wierd drama. :/
I'd like to say I love them all, but it would be a half lie. While I got completely obsessed with a few Korean dramas and certainly will in the future, and had a Taiwanese phase too at some point, the ones I invariably go back to when I need to find back my... addiction balance, are Japanese dramas.

I know it sounds very odd from an Italian, but to me it's a little like going back home after a pigout on exotic land. Japanese dramas restore my good mood and my serenity. I agree with every word by Tampopo100, who beautifully summed up my thoughts on the issue. I can relate, as strange as it sounds.
Not only Japanese have a much wider variety in terms of genres, contents and direction styles, they are also... extra-ordinary, be it the delicate touch of family dramas or the over the top comedy of surreal characters.

I must also confess at always being a little provoked by whatever becomes too popular and submerges everything else like a tsunami. It's what happens with the Korean wave right now. I love Korean dramas and movies, but more often then not they seem to aim at indulging the viewers - and the profits - instead of creating original works of fiction for the sake of telling a story.

As for the looks, it's all a question of personal taste. Not something I wish to spend my time debating about.
I prefer Japanese dramas but I watched more Korean dramas; I don't know if that makes sense though.

same. Korean dramas are more popular, so that's what i run into more often. don't really think about what i'm about to watch, i just pick something. sometimes i don't even bother to read the synopsis, and i very rarely read any reviews because frankly, i don't care if it's the worst drama you've ever watched, if i want to watch it, i'm going to watch it.

Yeah, right?
I was raised with Japanese dramas so even if I opened up my horizons to Korean and Taiwanese dramas. Japanese dramas are still my favourites due to the different topics and the daring themes they present in their dramas.
I prefer Korean but I also really like Japanese and Chinese dramas. Taiwanese is a pretty mixed bag for me-some I love and some I really hate

Absolutely. XD
