Yeah, there really are. Nowadays I believe there are over 200 girls in the 48 group, AKB48, SKE48, NMB48 and HKT48. They pretty much dominate the music charts, commercial time, and variety shows. I was introduced to them through there music and dramas but I didn't really start to follow them until I started watching their documentaries. Daily motion has a good amount of their variety show 'akbingo', but I recommend you start with their documentaries.

Well, I'll just come out and say it. AKB48 members aren't good actresses. If it's only one of them in a drama and its a supporting role they can be pretty good, but if it's a whole bunch of them acting together....that can only be enjoyed by a fan. In fact some of their dramas even have disclaimers in the beginning warning of the terrible acting. They are just regular young women, trying their best every day, and I think that's why they have become so popular.
