started watching drama since i'm 14 yo with Hong Kong's TVB drama. then move on to Jdorama with Beach Boys & GTO. most of my teen years & early 20's, i'd spent following Jdorama. just 6-7, years ago i started my kdrama craze with Full House. but i still watch jdorama. i do watch Taiwan drama occasionally. by that means depend of the drama storyline. i only remember completing Meteor Garden 1 & 2. that's it. most of Taiwan dramas were dropped half way. even the latest Skip Beat which stars Siwon & Donghae from SJ(yes, i'm an ELF).lost of interest, i'd say. havent seen any Thai/Phil/China drama yet & not planning to. recently, after watching 49 Days (have anybd watch this? it's GOOD!), i've started to be selective of drama i would watch. nonsense-drama-reluctance diseases i call it. haha. since a lot of drama these days, kdrama especially, using the same ol' plot over & over, it's boring..
Always japan.

voted Japan..
for the same reasons with this:

amrita828 wrote: I love them all - except Chinese and Thai, but only because I haven't seen any drama from those two countries.

But I voted Japan because:
1. I find them more surprising. Korea tends to put romance in every soup, at least lately
2. I don't like "fame-waves". Frankly, I'm annoyed by them. The Korean Hallyu one is no exception
3. I love most Asian languages but my favourite is Japanese
4. Japanese doramas were my first love. I go back to them whenever I'm in need of a lift up. And it works.
5. To be worth of this name, a battle needs to be even. And the votes were already 5 to 1 for Korea when I voted.

:)

except no 5..lol..
even when it's 5 to 1 for Jap, I'll still vote for Jap.. :D
I love both Taiwanese and Japanese. Korean dramas are okay but they're depressing and Chinese dramas often leave me a WTF mindset. XD
When it comes to dramas it's Korea for now, but that may change as I watch more shows from other countries. I watched my first dramas from Taiwan & Japan recently and I liked them both so I'll definitely go back for more. When it comes to movies, I have watched from most East Asian and South East Asian countries. Korea is at the top, then Japan, China, Hong Kong ... etc. I'm drawn to Korea because I find their culture more relatable in comparison to other East Asian countries, but I really don't have a preference as long as I'm sufficiently entertained.
i haven't watched many other Asian dramas besides Korean, but I found Jap and Thai dramas are quite enjoyable too (:
I think there's a similar thread here: http://mydramalist.com/forum/showthread.php?4627-What-kind-of-drama-you-like-the-most

My answer was:

If I had to choose then it would be korean dramas, but I love other dramas too, especially chinese and taiwanese. Right now I'm in a minor drama slump so I try to watch more chinese and taiwanese dramas to practice my chinese. I prefer taiwanese dramas that are well-made and not as dorky / cheesy / dramatic as they tend to be sometimes (even though I like them too). Same goes for thai dramas, it's important that they're well-made and not too much. Nowadays there seem to be a lot of great thai lakorn out there, so I try not to watch as many of the old ones as before. They've often got too much violence, rape and drama. Not to talk about the weak plot lines. I mean, I don't mind kiss-slap dramas (I love them, hehe), but they've to be good and without rape. So yeah, I love thai lakorn as long as they're good, like Taddao Bussaya or Tawee Pope.

I also watch a lot of japanese dramas, but I rarely find good ones. Most of the jdramas out there seem to be so-so compared to all the great korean dramas, haha! But when I do find a good japanese drama I totally fall in love with it.
South Korea ofc! But Japan have better crime/thriller dramas.
Japan! but i'm starting to like Korean dramas :)
I can't choose between japan and Korea.... I chose Korea. -_-
Korean, bit I watch Japanese and Taiwanese Dramas form time to time. But I usually prefer Japanese movies to Korean ones.
Korean. I used to watched a lot of japanese dramas and taiwanese dramas and I really liked them but then I discovered korean dramas and I for years I couldn't watch anything else. I feel like the acting in korean dramas is often more natural and not as caricaturized as in japanese/taiwanese dramas.
It's weird because I started out with korean and then slipped into all of the other countries, and go through waves and phases. And when I'm in one of my phases, I can't watch anything from a different country- it becomes too jarring for me ^_^ That said though, I really haven't been able to get back into Korean dramas. The female characters annoy the crap out of me sooo much, that I end up not being able to focus on plot- but that's probably because I'm really into Japanese doramas right now. Female roles are generally less dramatized in at least the Japanese doramas that I've seen, comparatively.
