I liked how they didn't just show you when the characters were teenagers, but instead took you through their adolescent years and into adulthood. I felt like I was able to grow up with them. I especially felt connected to the story of unrequited love.

Waaah. I feel exactly the same right now... not the hooked part, or connected part... just... I don't like the characters shown as teenagers. And I can't find them attractive, unless I squint and tilt my head to the side after spinning... I'm REALLY trying to give it a chance, and am on episode 4 now... but BUT BUT! Will i get hooked too if I keep on??? Because of your comment, I feel like i should try...

BUT.....!!
only one word... DAEBEK!

I say try to watch it until episode 6 or 7. There are 16 episodes total right? If you still don't like it by then then screw it. The reason I kept watching it was because 1) there were so many reviews so I figured it had to get better eventually and 2) the arguments with the dad were hilarious. A sure way to keep me interested in anything is to get me laughing. Anyways, despite all the reviews this drama may not be for everyone. Take Boys Over Flowers for example. It's a friggin world wide phenomenon but to this day I still can't bring myself to finish it.

I'll pull on my comfy pants and socks and just dig down deep to check it out... (Is it humorous until the end or does it take a horrible drastic turn and get serious?? My guts churn and twist at the thought of it going bad in the last four episodes)... after I finish Queen Inhuyn's man :p

I did watch Boys over flowers until the end in the HOPE that it would change for the better!! That I'd be surprised with something worthwhile. Needless to say I just wanted to poke my eyes out and erase my memory after watching it.
That's the problem with popular dramas. So much hype surrounds it, people start to get skeptical about its real worth as a watchable drama. I suggest put it off 'til the hype dies down a bit. When other people's rants and raves are in your eyes and ears, it's nearly impossible to appreciate something without having or building that high expectation. This applies not only to Reply 1997 but to all other dramas you've heard people talk so much about.

Luckily it was funny till the last episode. I would've been depressed if it randomly got serious. Good luck digging deep. I myself am trying to bring myself to get past the 4th episode of The Moon that Embraces the sun. It got all these acting awards so I'm sure it's a good drama, but I'm having a hard time even getting to the half way mark.

Thank god I'm not the only person in the world who doesn't think Boys Over Flowers is the greatest drama ever. I know alot of people love it, but I don't really get the hype. That being said, what few episodes I did watch I thought were decent. They just weren't enough to keep me watching so psycho fan girls please don't send me hate mail viruses.
Second lead syndrome ruined my overall enjoyment of this show just a bit. As a Joonhee-stan, I felt the ending was both fulfilling and empty. I'm glad that they didn't go the route I thought they would for the last episode, but there's a part of me that strongly wishes the drama turned out completely differently simply because shipping ruins everything and why do I always grow most attached to the doomed pairings? Urgh.

Aside from the last episode (which was a good episode, when I take off my biased glasses), the series was a fun watch. One of my favorites of 2012, definitely. It pulled on all the right heartstrings (sometimes it pulls too much and you end up with SECOND LEAD SYNDROME GOD DAMN IT), it had puppies, good humor, the sheep (bless that sheep and it's baaah-ing), cool varied and relatable characters, the best parents - this needs to be pointed out because it's so rare in dramas, and bits of nostalgia I think everyone can relate too. Maybe in the form of HOT, or technology at that time, or just one's experiences in high school, maybe all of it combined.

It does, however, feel a bit frustrating near the end with all the 'twists' and 'mysterious hand shots' and so on. Everyone by that point kind of knows what's going to happen, and it's just like "No. Stop giving me hope that somehow things changed and I'm wrong because I remember the first few episodes and the awkward touching and I know what you're letting me hope for isn't happening and god damn it, second lead syndrome, god damn it."

Side note: second lead syndrome. Don't let it take you. Never let it take you. Ever.
It definitely felt stretched towards the end. Those final two episodes could have been combined into one.
