One day, back in February 2012, I was just browsing through some tv channels and suddenly I came across Odagiri Joe giving an interview to CNN. I just stood still, watching the rest of the interview, where he basically talked about his movies (no mention to dramas yet). I remember writing down a few names from the bits and pieces of his movies that we're being shown while he talked. One of those movies was Shinobi. I've always been curious about asian cinema, but I didn't really thought about searching for more movies to watch until then. In July of the same year, I remembered that I had written down those movies titles and decided to watch Shinobi, which I ended up really loving. I knew about dramas, in theory, since a former classmate of mine was/is a jdrama fan, but I never bothered looking, since I was so immersed on american/british shows at the time.
So, after Shinobi, my interest just sparkled. One late night, I searched for the most popular jdramas and ended up marathoning Hana Yori Dango the next morning (I even remember it wasn't a very good day at my house because I think my mom wasn't feeling too well and she was in the living room with me, resting, while I just flew by that season 1 of Hanadan. Now I just kind of associate those two moments in my life). I saw s2 and the final movie on the days that followed. I didn't really want to get into kdramas but after watching the beginning of City Hunter, I had to continue. Despite that, my first full kdrama was actually Love Rain.
Almost 5 years later, here we are! I remember my first couple of drama years very fondly, as a I watched basically anything, didn't really avoid any actors and just had a ton of patience for our dearly drama shenanigans! Despite all that, I don't think I'll ever turn my back on this addictive world.
