I'm looking for dramas where the male lead has a dysfunctional family whether its an evil stepdad or a psycho mom.i really adored how they dealt with joon-young and his mom in solomon's perjury so im looking for something similar.I would prefer if at some point the female lead helps him deal with it too. korea/japan/thai/taiwan/china dramas only. THANK YOU!!!

I personally loved K-drama Sirius season 3, maybe not very much love - but all the other ingredients you need. Only 4 episodes, so it should be easy to finish :)

Lol, that would be a lot of them :D I actually really dislike this trope, but it seems to be very common:

Kill Me, Heal Me

The Heirs (this one gets very mixed reviews)

Boys over Flowers (same)

The Great Seducer

Marriage, not Dating

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

Birth of a Beauty

I loved Bae Joon Young in Solomon's Perjury.   Aww.

For recommendations, An Innocent Mistake comes to mind.  The nature of the dysfunction is slowly revealed over the course of the show, though, and is not super-obvious from the start.  So it's kind of similar to Joon Young in Solomon's Perjury in that way.  Also similar feelings of guilt and blame and resentment, although the reasons are different.

I would agree that there are tons of male leads with family issues, but the way Joon Young's issues with his mom played out is kind of unusual.  An Innocent Mistake is the closest I can come, though.  Hope that helps, and I'm curious what other answers you get.

(off topic from Asian dramas, but you might try the old American movie Ordinary People because it's got a similar mother-son dynamic, minus the romantic interest helping in any way.  One of my favorite movies ever)

in addition to those above...just a couple I watched recently:

My Golden Life

MARS

Jang Bori is Here!

But I would have to say that the main girl's family is more dysfunctional than the guy's family.

White Christmas

The Heirs

Sassy Go Go

I haven't seen Solomon's Perjury, so I'm not sure if these are exactly what you're looking for, but:

  • Bromance - the ML's adoptive father disappeared years ago in an accident at sea; when the ML finds him, he has lost his memories and very resistant / cold towards those claiming to be his family; the FL plays a huge role in getting the father to relax and get to know his family again
  • Hello Monster / I Remember You - the ML's brother was kidnapped as a child and became a murderer; both the ML and FL are part of a team tasked with catching serial killers
  • Marriage Contract - the ML's mum acts up for attention because she is the ML's father's former mistress who is now ignored by the father; she desperately needs a liver transplant, so the ML enters into a marriage contract with the FL so that she can become a donor

I find it more interesting to watch if the male lead's family is more dysfunctional for some odd reason. BUT THANK YOU! I will definitely check it out.
