Very true. I believe the cruel, insensitive rich people is the most blatant cliché in K-dramas. What bugs me the most is that it is played as if it were... accettable, almost a given. People shouting offenses, throwing liquids in the face of others, slapping and stomping, all in public is something we westerner usually associate with very vulgar people, criminals, prostitutes and the like. Such a behaviour as Sae Kyung in my country would earn her the title of "longshoreman". Zero class.

I know! I cannot stand Sae Kyung, and I wonder what she's going to do now that she knows Yeon Jae has cancer. I don't get why she's even this greedy about having Ji Wook. The way I see it is she thought he was hers to begin with and now she wants him because she doesn't want to lose to someone like Yeon Jae. She doesn't love Ji Wook, nothing she's done makes you think that she even loves him. I think he's just someone she can see herself living a comfortable life with.
The father needs to just let things go, she only has a couple months left to live! To go around doing all that for the sake of a company, in the end is it really worth it as a father? Would he be proud to know he kept his son from spending the last few months with the woman he loves. I hope he comes to his senses.

I agree with you, what you said makes more sense than what I said. And you're right that she's done more in her life since she's found out she's had cancer than how she was living before.
I would love to see them get married soon! I don't want to see her die, but as inevitable as it is I hope she can do the things she's always wanted to (as many as she can) before it comes.

I agree with you about the tragedies, even though the ending is sad they seem to carry a heavier meaning (in most cases), some are inspiring and many make you think. I really hope that her last few months won't be dealt with the drama of his family, I hope that during this time her and Ji Wook can make the most of it and cherish those moments without anything else troubling them. That being said, since this is a drama I'm thinking that's too much to ask for.
You were right in that the accident did "mark a sort of shift," for both of them. I just want them to be able to be happy (for as long as they can), if there could be a miracle at the end it'd be perfect! Seeing Ji Wook crying and begging his father to leave her alone made me cry, I can't stand how they keep interfering (I think I keep repeating myself a little, haha).
Anyways, going to watch episode 4 once it gets to at least 98% on Viki!
Ep 14 just made me cry. I mean this ep was draining me with its emotion between certain characters.
And OMG i honestly did not see Hee Joo's death coming. This writer definitely hit me from my blind spot. I really wanted her to live so when YJ is gone ES can have someone by his side. Damn you writer.
The scene of Eun Seok breaking down after Hee Joo's death and begging Yeon Jae to live was so damn heartbreaking.

I believe you're right. Sae Kyung is like the dog in the manger, who doesn't like the vegetables growing there, but doesn't want anyone to have them either, because that's "its" territory.
I'm glad the writer had the decency to make her feel shocked at the cancer truth: having her make a scene even after that would have been a true exaggeration, even for a spoiled brat.
As for the father, I could condone his behaviour if his motives were: my son's going to suffer too much. It would be undestandable, he lost a wife too, after all. But the way he's handling things is horrible and makes one think his ultimate goal is, indeed, that blasted company and his son marrying... an asset. I hope he comes to his senses; if not, at least stay away from those two.
They are just magic together.

I'm with you! This episode drained me and made me cry the most. And Sae Kyung's character I'm really getting sick of. Hee Joo's death and seeing Eun Sook cry, and then at the end with the webtoons made me cry even more. I'm worried about how her mother's going to react, although I'm glad she finally told her the truth. It starts off cute with them doing the volunteer work, but it was also sad, because it feels like Yeon Jae would love and really wants to have a family with Ji Wook, watching him with the kids and knowing that this is the closest they'll get to it, it's sad :(
2 episodes left, can't believe it's the end next week! I have a feeling this drama is going to make me cry almost as much as 1 Litre Of Tears... :'( Yeon Jae, I pray for a miracle for you! Hee Joo's death was hard enough!

I could condone his behavior, too, if that were the case. The fact he needs to realize is that Yeon Jae did give Ji Wook a chance to back away, but he didn't want that, and neither did she. Instead of pushing them away it's best just to let them be together, Yeon Jae doesn't want him to be with nothing, and although she is being selfish by keeping him by her side, who can blame her or hate her for it? She doesn't want him to give up on his life or his other relationships with the company and his father, so I hope with these final episodes we don't see much of him.

I actually do think he's doing it for Ji Wook as well. The main reason is the company, but I think he did ask him what would happen when she dies and he's a wreck. I think that yeah, the dad doesn't want Ji Wook to cause any harm to the company, but he also doesn't want him to have someone else he loves die.
I also want a miracle, I don't care if it brings the whole quality of the show down (which i think it would). If she somehow lives, I will be happy. But she has to die, and I think she will, for the drama to be as good as it can be. Ji Wook and Eun Seok have both learned how to live from Yeon Jae, so if she survives, it won't mean as much.
I want this show to have an "open ending". I don't need to see a death scene. We all know Yeon Jae is going to die. We've had to live with the angst now for 14 episodes. So I hope we end a bit softer. A happy scene between the characters; the inevitable is there but in the future...not something the audience must live through.
I was thinking a lot about the mother/daughter dynamic in this show. I've really enjoyed it all the way through. They fight and then make up so easily. They like being together and look out for each other. I think it is very realistic. I also noticed that a lot of dramas have the mother trying to marry the daughter off. I'm not sure if this is a Korean culture thing or just a Kdrama thing. But one difference I feel that stands out in Scent of a Woman is that in Yeon Jae and her mother's case, it feels like it comes from a place of real concern. It's more that her mother doesn't want her to be lonely/alone. She wants her to be happy...and to have grandbabies. In some cases in Kdramas, it is the mother being selfish and wanting to marry her daughter off for her own future comfort. I am also really curious to see how Yeon Jae's mother is going to react to this news. I feel so bad for her to have lost her husband and now her daughter to the same disease. Ahh sad!
I agree with what you said, Yeon Jae's mother is different from other moms in kdramas, who are always extreme characters. Even the nice moms are always too nice, so nice that there doesn't seem to be any flaws. In SOaW Yeon Jae's relationship with her mom is so realistic.
Also I recently finished Capital Scandal, and the actress who plays Yeon Jae's mom playing one of the most amusing characters I've ever seen, Sachiko. Ever since whenever I watch this show I always see a bit of Sachiko popping out here and there. It makes me smile so much, I love it. :D

I just finished Capital Scandal yesterday! Oh my god...Sachiko was CA---RAAAZY! I haven't gathered my thoughts yet but I'm going to do a review soon. I loved Kang Ji Hwan in that role.
