Lmao sorry I guess I didn’t pay special attention then. Makes sense, many dramas reference historical figures with the addition of fiction.

Just skimmed through the reference Kokuto, haha that is so interesting! Makes sense because I’ve heard of Xuan Yuan, Qing Qiu and other names in other dramas. Must all be based on historical/mythical people or places.

Interesting how he banned marriages between kin and also upheld the patriarchal system

Holy cow the typos in my post ... I plead lateness of the hour and melted brain.  ugh.

Yes, you can see a few glimpses of our CX, that Tong Hua used.

If you read the original version of LYF, it has most of the historical and mythological names.  Liddi did a cool explanation of how Tong Hua played with the names when she changed... I'm not sure where that is now, but it probably is in the academic thread.

Haha yeah when I read the novel, I focused on the story itself and overlooked any historical references. Too caught up in the politics and crazy love triangles…squares….pentagons ? now that I rewatch the cast interviews from last yr; I now understand that the leaked script is real. ZWY said that CX gave up his love for a bigger love so that she could have what she truly wanted ? so no crazy CX for us!

But this realization actually didn't come through until after he realized Jing played him, after he came back and confirm that it was indeed Jing who gave FL the idea of having XY in Chuisui. This scene from the novel, worked twofold, how scheming Jing was and how CX have to portray magnanimous as a ruler. Such a shame we will lose this essence.

Ok looool I see from the leaked script that things were changed around in terms of the timeline. Anyway, I want the assassination scene where XY ends up in the whirlpool and everything - and where XL saves her, and then CX almost lost his mind waiting on the shore looking for her. And CX’s possessiveness resulting his craziness - WHY IS IT A DREAMMM

Maybe I'm thinking of this from a Western view.  I think of "it was a dream" is cheating the viewer and make them feel like they were just yanked around.  I mean, will they let the viewer know before hand that it is a dream?  So, viewers aren't tricked, but they also aren't invested.  I was remembering they did this in Till The End of the Moon, where there was a whole arc that was basically a dream sequence ... and actually not all that good, IMO.  Could they be doing that?  And would work better for anyone?
