GS:

I have to admit that I also liked  the unique mask.

Zhu Yan  looked somehow vulnerable and innocent with that mask and the scenes with WX are

some of my favs in the drama.

I really loved that mask. Although it's nothing too pretentious and it could easily be made at home, I loved the look of it and it was just a nice touch to the outfit he wore in the Wilderness.

Plus, I found it a clever detail the way it changed "expression" based on Zhu Yan's mood.

 Ehsal:

I think they repeat cuz TJR blue costume low-key looks same as fof why they giving him same blue color as before. He always gets either black grey or blue color.

I think the stylists team is the same as in MJTY, but it could also be that they reused some of the material and fabric they had in that drama, yes. The texture and embroidery are indeed very similar.

This is quite interesting and very nice written! Thank you for taking the time to share these  details with us.

Thank you for reading it! I'm glad you found it an interesting read, it's a topic I really love.

There'd be a lot more to say, actually, but it would have turned out too long.

I came a cross a behind-the-scenes video regarding the production of Fangs of Fortune and they talk about things like colour etc. I love hearing their creative point of view of how it all came together and why.

You're very welcome! Hope you enjoyed it. I like the way they did all the small details with colour and design elements for the actor's costumes that corresponds with what the character represents. Those costumes must've taken ages to make and then there's the props too like the hair stick that's also a writing brush and the medicine box.

It's really a good read for those who are new into Chinese costumes dramas (like me). I always like to learn new things and I found it very interesting how much details the production team has to consider during the planning stage of a costume drama.

 mei:

FoF truly showcases the most gorgeous costumes and a lot of work and care (and study) went into every single one of them.

The costume design department deserves all the praises and at least one award for what they created.

For sure i remember the stylist is the same as till the end of moon and those costumes were also very pretty. Gjm choose the best costume designer for his drama. But it is getting a little repetitive as we progress specially TJR getting almost same dresses and I want them to give uniqueness to all of their characters.

I see your point and I agree to it on some level. Although, concerning TJR costumes specifically, I feel the clothes and designs in themselves are quite different from one character and the other (and each character has many different outfits within a drama), but he does always wear very similar hair accessories and headbands - I believe in VoS his character will wear once again a headband and bells in his hair, making it 3 out of 3 dramas where he has those things.

Having watched GJM movies and short movies as well, this kind of style is just his thing. His signature, basically.

In his works you'll always find finely embroidered fabrics, almost shining with paillettes and tiny diamonds, dark tones, gloves, headbands and almost a Japanese feel to the design of tunics and robes. You can tell it's one of his scripts just by that, but at least he's consistent and those costumes look gorgeous. So kinda repetitive indeed, but not entirely evil... yay?

Mei i can't quote your reply but absolutely yes! The visuals GJM creates is the best. His style also resembles Japanese movies but it is still very unique and mesmerising but i just want to see TJR in something more new in historical drama. He has a drama in the cloud where he is wearing white green costumes so let's see when that gets aired.

Take me where the clouds rise? I've been looking forward to that drama for months and months (know and love about 80% of the cast and from the stills it looks pretty decent). It'll never air soon enough, at this point.
