2021 Dramas
What I'm watching in 2021. Started 28 dramas/movies. Finished 18. Dropped 3. Might finish the 7 left next year.
I write my thoughts here and there aren't any explicit spoilers. There might be vague spoilers tho
-
1. Tale of the Nine-Tailed
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
started 1/1
expected rom com with some melo. its actually a murder mystery type with a homicidal villian. there's still romance and comedy tho
not sure if i'll finish
-
2. Sweet Home
Korean Drama - 2020, 10 episodes
started 1/6 i saw an ep of running man where they promoted it and i thought this was gonna be just as fun and goofy as the ep. i was wrong. i'm scared. i might finish it.
i am very easily scared. i usually stick to my fluff and comedy and i will go back to that
1/7 i actually finished it. I was scared and definitely sad. They killed my favorite person
-
3. The Uncanny Counter
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
started 1/7 aside from all the death in the first ep, this looks like fun
they constantly do things that get on my nerve. like i get that the teen is new but the rest of them should have better critical thinking skills
it also annoys me when he's strolling and they're struggling. speed it up please
1/24 i finished it. i'm glad they left enough time to wrap up everything. i still have some questions but not nearly as much as i usually do
-
4. True Beauty
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
i actually started it in december 11, 2020 but most of it airs in 2021 so i'm adding it here. love it so far; lots of cute moments and funny moments
that first ep is heavy tho, and some of the second too
2/18 finished it was nice. i read the webtoon and most things changed for the better. there were some parts i didnt like but overall i would recommend.
-
5. The Rebel Princess
Chinese Drama - 2021, 68 episodes
started 1/22 not sure what i expected but i'm not really feeling this
they're taking way too long to get to when the leads interact and there's so much going on. i like my plots simple dont know if i'll finish
they still spend way too much time on the non leads but i'm actually enjoying now
-
6. Neechan no Koibito
Japanese Drama - 2020, 9 episodes
started 1/26 saw first ep and it seems like a nice slice of life. gonna continue
finished it on 1/30 and it was a nice slice of life show
short and feel good aside from that one part
-
7. Come! Jang Bo Ri
Korean Drama - 2014, 52 episodes
started 2/3
i watched the chinese version because of you first and i didnt realize this was the first version. it is literally the same in everyway as far as i can tell except the language obviously
finished 2/5
-
8. I Have a Lover
Korean Drama - 2015, 50 episodes
started 2/5 this drama definitely annoyes me but i wanna know what happens next
almost halfway through and i doubt I'm gonna finish. looks like she's gonna end up with the guy i don't like and why watch after realizing that
-
9. Smile, You
Korean Drama - 2009, 45 episodes
2/7 i started watching this years ago but never finished. since i remember nothing i decided to rewatch and see how it goes
fl's dad is by far the worst character but it seems like he'll be redeemed by the end. her whole family probably will. its a long way to go.
im on ep14 and i see why i stopped watching. honestly im surprised i even got to 19 last time. im gonna drop it
-
10. My Only One
Korean Drama - 2018, 106 episodes
started 2/8
this a long drama, weekend i think , so there's gonna be plenty of frustrating scenes but i dunno if there are enough redeeming scenes to counter that.
im on ep 30 and im still pretty meh on the male lead. i dont like him or most of his family and i honestly dont want the female lead to have to deal with them more than she already does. her own family causes enough problems as is. might drop this
now at ep 83 and wow. i do, in fact, hate myself. it got so much worse and more repetitive. why. the writers couldve changed so much and made it better but no. they always went with the worse choice that makes the least sense
finished 2/18 and those are hours of my life I wont get back. i did that to myself but on the plus side i did skip a lot of scenes. ending was not satisfactory at all. would not recommend
-
11. Kimcheed Radish Cubes
Korean Drama - 2007, 44 episodes
started 2/14 its pretty cute, but they seem to be sinking my ship and i dont like that, there still like 30eps left so lets see what happens
finished 2/24 my ship did sail to the end so thats nice but that ending was. uh. um. im just glad they dont make them like that anymore
-
12. TV Novel: Dal Soon's Spring
Korean Drama - 2017, 129 episodes
started 2/18. another long drama but this one's a period drama. so far pretty good
im on ep70 and its your standard long drama. its about the same level as come jang bo ri tho there are more evil characters which is honestly annoying. not as irritating as my only one but could lead to that direction. the evil characters are constantly scheming and the good characters are shocked and confused at their situation but rarely suspect the evil character or have precautions for the next time
finished 2/23 it was whatever. the big villian got what was due to him but the smaller villian didnt. there couldve been a lot more nice scenes. and it honestly seemed liked the villians got more screen time than the leads
-
13. The Promise
Korean Drama - 2016, 102 episodes
started 2/24 so far this has started out as the best of the long dramas i've tried. now lets see how it continues
on ep42 and this series is so sad/suspenseful. plus it keeps going in ways i dont expect. i'm hooked
on ep73 and one thing i dont like about this is the whole younger sister storyline. its supposed to be comic relief but its honestly insulting to the main story. i skip all her scenes and those related to it
finished 3/1 overall it was pretty good. there were plenty of plotholes and general stupidity and i did skip all scenes with certain characters but this was the best so far of the long dramas i've seen this year. the ending was underwhelming tho
-
14. Yellow Boots
Korean Drama - 2012, 108 episodes
i'm not even sure if i should add this one cause i didnt really start watching until ep sixty something. i watched at most 5 mins of each ep before then. i didnt really miss anything and could follow along pretty easily. it was okay overall. i was actually satisfied with what happened to the villian in the end
-
15. Spring Turns to Spring
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
started 3/6 so far i like it. it has the same chaotic energy as feel good to die (which i put on hold) and good casting (which i dropped) hopefully i'll enjoy it and not lose interest soon like with the ones mentioned. they also use a specific sound during transitions which reminds me of glee (which was also chaotic)
just finished ep24 and hopefully i finish this. its definitely repetitive and it takes so long for us to see any type of character development. one lead is so annoyingly dense and the other is incredibly greedy. i've felt like putting this on hold for a couple of eps now but lets see if i pull through
-
16. The Sleepless Princess
Chinese Drama - 2020, 35 episodes
Started 3/11 so far its okay. there's funny moments, a stoic male lead, a silly but cute female lead, mediocre writing, and nice clothes. the actors are trying tho and i'm watching for them
ep19 and 20 on youtube have no eng sub but so far the rest do
-
17. Space Sweepers
Korean Movie - 2021
Started and finished 5/24 I went in with no expectations and I enjoyed it. It wasn't great but was fun to watch with friends. Would recommend
-
18. Please Feel at Ease Mr. Ling
Chinese Drama - 2021, 24 episodes
Started 5/26 Its nice and enjoyable. There's a deeper story but its taking its time to get to it and sometimes the female lead even has some agency. Not enough tho.
-
19. Sell Your Haunted House
Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes
Started 5/30 I like both Jang Na Ra and Yong Hwa so I was excited for this, but I wasn't sure to expect. I'm glad I started it. I really like their characters and most of the ghost stories. There's of course some parts that annoy me but overall I would definitely recommend.
Finished 7/25 overall i really enjoyed it. there were some parts that annoyed me but those were few and far between. I also liked that they saved enough room to wrap it up nicely
-
20. Our Glamorous Time
Chinese Drama - 2018, 50 episodes
-
21. Sumika Sumire
Japanese Drama - 2016, 8 episodes
started 7/13 so far pretty cute
finished 7/14 i didnt realize this only has 8 eps, that went by so fast. it was definitely weird but i enjoyed the characters
-
22. So Not Worth it
Korean Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
started 6/22 and ended 7/3
it was more enjoyable than I thought it'd be
-
23. #Alive
Korean Movie - 2020
started and ended 9/8
i was anxious throughout the movie. If you like action, zombies, and thrillers, this is for you.
-
24. Mr. Sunshine
Korean Drama - 2018, 24 episodes
started 9/9
shot beautifully, starts with lots of drama which will probably grow. i'm pretty sure this ends in tragedy but unfortunately im already hooked. the story is good
-
25. Super Me
Chinese Movie - 2019
started and finished 10/1
cool concept, execution could've been better
-
26. My Fairy Girl
Chinese Movie - 2021
start/finish 10/30
it was nice. felt like too much for a movie tho. Would've been nice as a like 4 or 6 ep drama
-
27. Novoland: Pearl Eclipse
Chinese Drama - 2021, 48 episodes
start 11/18
like it so far. unfortunately only 3 eps are subbed on youtube, but it seems like they'll update weekly. I just wanna binge it tho
-
28. Lie After Lie
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
started 12/5, finished 12/7
I liked it. There were your usual plot holes and dumb decisions, but overall the acting was good and they had some good cliffhangers. Every time I ended an episode I had to see what was gonna happen next.
