gay dramas/movies
hi im bisexual and this is all the gay dramas/movies or dramas/movies with gay storylines that ive seen. sorted by how good i think they are (not necessarily enjoyment, but obviously none of this will be objective)
rating reflects my personal enjoyment
these are all primarily mlm, but i do hope to make a second list for dramas/movies that center around lesbian couples.
will be updated in the future!
list contains warnings! every show's ranking may be subject to change in the future

1. HIStory3: Trapped
Taiwanese Special - 2019, 20 episodes
cw: this is a gang drama so there's death, violence and all that jazz. attempted rape in episode 14 (or likely 7 if you're watching on viki), unhealthy age difference between the one heterosexual couple
made me cry? yes. multiple times
scores
story: 9/10
characters: 10/10
pairings: 9.5/10
anger scale: 4/10 -
2. 3 Will Be Free
Thai Drama - 2019, 10 episodes
cw: transphobia, death of a (minor) trans character, suicide, casual homophobia, casual biphobia, gang violence, rape, attempted rape, domestic abuse, murder, nsfw, cheating, nudity
made me cry? yes
scores:
story: 9/10
characters: 10/10
pairings: 8/10
anger scale: 4/10this is the best show about polyamory ever made. while i cant recommend it to everyone (it gets pretty heavy) i think if you can deal with the cws above i think you will love this show.
the transphobia, rape, homophobia, domestic abuse, etc. are portrayed as appropriately despicable.
this show has a main character who is a trans woman played by a trans woman! lots of feminist and lgbt+ positive messages.. and its also sex work positive!! which is so rare and really refreshing -
3. The Untamed
Chinese Drama - 2019, 50 episodes
cw: death, so much blood, suicide, hanging, death of a family member (or many, many family members), ghosts, zombies (essentially)
made me cry? i haven't stopped crying since, actually
scores
story: 9/10
characters: 10/10
pairings: 7.5/10
anger scale: 5/10you've probably heard of this show/the novel it's based on (mo dao zu shi), or the web manhua, or the donghua, if you've been on the internet before. the rumors are true! it's about as good as you imagine based on the hype and maybe more so.
yes they censored the canon gay element but the subtext is so obvious youd have to be like, Really straight to not pick up on it
you can tell that they love each other, even if they dont kiss onscreen or get married for real
and the appeal of the show doesn't end at the relationship between the leads. no, it's an intriguing story about family (including found family), murder mysteries, morality, what it means to be good or evil, and marxism -
4. Long Time No See
Korean Drama - 2017, 5 episodes
cw: murder, homophobia, homophobic bullying, gang violence
made me cry? yes
scores
story: 8/10
characters: 9/10
pairing: 10/10
anger scale: 3/10an assassin who falls in love with his target.... And it has a happy ending! now that's just really sexy
-
5. Our Days
Thai Drama - 2022, 12 episodes
tw: some internalized homophobia, non-consensual kiss
one of if not my absolute favorite thai bl ever made. its hard to describe, hard to say what i like about it but it just has that melancholy i can relate to. and the autistic main character i can also relate to LOL i cant pretend i care about the main couple as...a couple? but i like how unconvential they are in the broader bl landscape. they would be side characters in another show. i love saint
-
6. HIStory2: Crossing the Line
Taiwanese Special - 2018, 8 episodes
cw: stepbrother romance (secondary couple), gang violence
made me cry? no but thats okay. i was close though
scores
story: 7/10
characters: 9/10
pairings: 8/10 (brought down by lackluster secondary pair)
anger scale: 2/10worthy of being considered one of the best
-
7. The Blue Hour
Thai Movie - 2015
cw (spoiler free): homophobia, parental abuse, animal death, family death, suicide, some nsfw at the start
made me cry? yup. yup
scores
story: 9/10
characters: 9.5/10
pairing: 7/10
anger scale: 3/10
this movie is best enjoyed without knowing much about it beforehand but if you want to be completely safe you should read the spoilery cw
cw (SPOILERS): this is a horror movie. it gets freaky and does it well imo. there's like one or two jumpscares, the main characters commit suicide
-
8. Where Your Eyes Linger
Korean Drama - 2020, 8 episodes
cw: homophobic parents, internalized homophobia, violence, irl shipping (sort of)
story: 8/10
characters: 10/10
pairing: 10/10
anger scale: hhhhh/10 (5/10)you really have no excuse not to watch this show. the acting is superb, the writing is tight, and it really tucks on your heartstrings. while the shortness of the episodes makes it feel rushed in places it doesnt suffer much from that and manages to tell an engaging story within its constraints. a must watch!
-
9. Until We Meet Again
Thai Drama - 2019, 17 episodes
cw: suicide, ptsd, irl shipping
scores
story: 8/10 bittersweet yet super cute. maybe a bit dramatic but it actually plays in its favor
characters: 7.5/10 i really like pharm and dean, especially how dean is a huge dork despite seeming somewhat standoffish. the others feel kind of bland and one-dimensional at the moment. and i dont like there being a bl fan character in manaow, its uncomfortable how she talks about dean and pharm...
pairings: 8/10 obviously open to future change. deanpharm is strong and teamwin drags them down a little by being pretty uninteresting so far. i know they barely get any development in the novel but i hope the show wont go down that path. also hets :/
anger scale: 2/10this is a show about reincarnation and fated lovers, given that premise its no surprise that both of them commit suicide in ep one (after being confronted by their homophobic fathers) now they are reincarnated and get a new shot at love - on first impression this feels a little like a cheap excuse to have them be head over heels for each other at first sight, but once their past lives' relationship gets explored more in flashbacks, and seeing how pharm's trauma over having seen his boyfriend commit suicide in a past life impacts him... i dont know i just do really like how its all handled. like yes its dramatic but also it doesnt dwell on it as much as you might think. dean and pharm have already had so many cute and wholesome scenes together i've lost count
i love dean's awkward attempts at flirting. im so glad hes not some perfect human at all hes flawed, hes cute. its refreshing ok
also here's a sweet detail, something you just dont see a lot in thai bl: pharm and in (pharm's past self) are both played by openly gay actors!!! this is pretty huge imo -
10. He's Coming to Me
Thai Drama - 2019, 8 episodes
cw: death, discussions of death, terminal illness
ok so. mes (the ghost) meets than when than is just a little child (and mes is a 21 year old. and a ghost) and then they dont meet again until than is around 18. and than takes mes home with him when hes like 20. honestly it's a bit uncomfortable but.. on the other hand they don't fall in love until after than takes mes with him. and the progression didnt make me feel uncomfortable
unfortunately theres an uncomfortable bit at the very end where than asks mes if he already thought of his kid self as cute / implying attraction.. which was Really bad. doesn't help that hamburger magazine did a cmbyn inspired photo shoot with the main actors
but that's really as bad as it gets. if you ignore those things it Never feels like mes was attracted to than's child self... so yeah
SPOILER: also it turns out that mes used to date than's mom when he was still alive but i think its handled appropriately (also they broke up because he realized hes gay)made me cry? a lot
scores
story: 9.5/10 (really unique!)
characters: 6/10 (bit weak unfortunately)
pairings: 7/10
anger scale: 4/10 -
11. Red Balloon
Taiwanese Drama - 2017, 8 episodes
cw: homophobia, homophobic bullying, homophobic parents, suicide attempt, teacher/student relationship (backstory, not the main relationship or much in focus at all)
scores
story: 10/10
characters: 7/10short but very nuanced, realistic and hopeful. a poignant show that tucks at your heartstrings, but with a happy ending. a must-watch
-
12. Mr. X and I Season 2
Chinese Drama - 2015, 6 episodes
cw: homophobia, homophobic bullying, internalized homophobia, abusive father, nsfw
i found this show by chance and almost didnt give it a try because it seemed unremarkable but upon finally watching it i can safely say this is one of the best gay dramas ive seen. it feels very realistic and down to earth (probably because its based on a true story) but at the same time it wasnt a huge downer and also very hopeful in a lot of ways. it shines a light upon societal oppression of gay people, especially within china in particular, with tao ye being a sad example... though he is bisexual he never lets himself love men the way he lets himself love women. for obvious reasons
-
13. Theory of Love
Thai Drama - 2019, 12 episodes
cw: cheating, nonconsensual kissing
made me cry? oh yes
scores
story: 9/10
characters: 8/10
pairings: 7/10
anger scale: 10/10this show is SO frustrating to watch. but you know what? it's worth it. fuck you khai
i dont want to spoil too much so just watch it alright -
14. Because of You
Taiwanese Drama - 2020, 10 episodes
cw: attempted rape (not between any of the couples), death of a family member
spoilers but.... this is NOT incest. theyre not related. dont worry
god i like this show so much. its way too short! but oh my god! its so short and yet so so good, i admire that so much.
i want more bl with leads from two different countries. please
-
15. Dark Blue Kiss
Thai Drama - 2019, 12 episodes
cw: dubious consent in some scenes involving petekao, homophobia, violence, attempted sexual assault (handled appropriately)
made me cry? so much
scores
story: 8.5/10 i like most of it except for pete's jealousy over non its a bit too much imo
characters: 7/10 not as consistent as id like
pairings: 8.5/10
anger scale: 8/10i'm a bit torn on this show - on one hand i Really loved how it all ended, how the conflicts all got resolved in the end, the lessons about acceptance, the great female characters (sandee, kitty and manow were so lovable and memorable!) which are a rare treat in bl... wait, no. this isn't even bl. i don't think it can be called that. this is gay representation!
this show lets its characters talk about the gay experience, lets them come out, lets them have loving parents, lets them struggle with their identity in relatable ways... bl doesn't do that.what bothers me though... pete's intense jealousy. yes, it's an effective tool to create drama, but it can become very overbearing. and sadly he doesn't develop much in that regard and kao ends up suffering under it
that doesn't mean pete doesn't go through some meaningful development though! quite the opposite - he does seriously start working on some of his flaws, and i appreciate that a lot.
ultimately, frustrating bits aside, this show is absolutely worth a watch. it's an emotional ride but it ends well and the catharsis is amazingyou should probably see kiss me again in advance just to get context on petekao, but its not necessarily a Must
-
16. Ossan's Love
Japanese Drama - 2018, 7 episodes
cw: sexual harassment (from the chief) shown in a comedic light, nonconsensual kissing
made me cry? no
scores
story: 7/10
characters: 9.5/10 0.5 points deducted because of chief
pairings: makiharu/10
anger scale: 7/10this show kind of made history. it became huge in japan, even outside of the lgbt community! it won a bunch of awards! and apparently it helped make the country take a step further towards gay acceptance which is huge - and it opened up the possibility for future gay tv shows and movies (which are being made!) and all that in itself is already incredible.
there are some chunks of the show that i really dont like (namely almost everything involving chief and his crush for haruta) but the rest is really good and wholesome and funny. i appreciate it
season 2 can die -
17. Like Grains of Sand
Japanese Movie - 1995
cw: homophobia, bullying, attempted sexual harassment
a beautiful story about onesided love, friendship, being a gay adolescent teen...
-
18. My Engineer
Thai Drama - 2020, 14 episodes
cw: rape fakeout, "i'm not gay i only like you", rl shipping
story: 5/10
characters: 9/10
pairings: 8/10
anger scale: 4/10this is just a sort of middle of the road bl story that is elevated by its stellar cast and hilarious jokes. Almost completely inoffensive except for the rape fakeout i mentioned above. and bohn is a bit annoyingly jealous and possessive
there are like 2 or 3 episodes dedicated to drama about who between the main couple would be the top with a lot of stereotyping, that refreshingly enough ends with the message "looks and personality don't matter, anyone can be a top" (basically lol) and i have to admit it was hilarious in places. bohn (the more "stereotypical top") also ends up telling duen he wouldn't mind bottoming for him. so it's really a win!
too bad the whole thing was based on fanfic someone in universe wrote about them which was maybe the worst part of it
so yeah. this is quite the mixed bagBUT the characters are all pretty lovable and quirky and i enjoy that quite a bit
-
19. Silhouette of Your Voice
Japanese Movie - 2017
cw: ableism, ableist bullying
i love the manga this is based on. the manga is ultimately better but this is still a really good adaption!
-
20. Double Mints
Japanese Movie - 2017
cw: graphic rape, homophobia, death, murder, gang violence, nsfw, bullying
made me cry? hm... no
scores
story: 6/10
characters: 7/10
pairings: wont rate
anger scale: 10/10this movie is..... haunting, and beautiful, and fucked up. i really like it but its genuinely, absolutely, not going to be everyone's cup of tea. its about a fucked up relationship between two fucked up people and their fucked up lives
-
21. We Are Gamily
Taiwanese Movie - 2017
cw: homophobia, homophobic parents, faking serious disease (cancer), cheating
this is a commentary on the impact of a homophobic conservative society (like in china) on gay people, especially in relation to their families. the humor fell a bit flat for me but the rest worked really well. and i got really sad. happy ending tho!
-
22. 'Cause You're My Boy
Thai Drama - 2018, 12 episodes
cw: homophobic parents, homophobia, sexual assault (sorta)
this show isnt perfect or anything but god i love my boys
-
23. Our Skyy
Thai Drama - 2018, 5 episodes
this is a series of unrelated spinoffs to shows made by gmmtv. you should watch the shows in question before you watch this series
cw: morktee's episode has a rape joke in it. also annoying jealousy misunderstandings.. good ending tho. i havent seen the eps for sotus (kongarthit) and my dear loser (insun) yet so i can't say anything about them yet. nothing else of note
-
24. Just Friends?
Korean Movie - 2009
cw: military, homophobia, homophobic parents, internalized homophobia
-
25. Like Love
Chinese Drama - 2014, 15 episodes
cw: NSFW (pretty graphic! this show is r18 for a reason), homophobia, attempted rape (not between the couple), military (sort of)
ok so - like love.... you know, speaking from a technical standpoint this probably isnt the best show ever or whatever, just middle of the road at best. but i really enjoyed it, its awfully sweet, manages to avoid a lot of annoying bl stereotypes, touches upon the homophobic society the mcs live in... all while being pretty funny to boot. these two get a happy ending. though not all plot points are resolved because there was (afaik) supposed to be a sequel that was never made... because of the ban
honestly both of the mcs are a bit obnoxious in their own right but i think that almost elevates the story, and oh my god they do love each other so much!
-
26. Beloved Enemy
Chinese Drama - 2017, 15 episodes
cw: attempted rape, drugging, violence
if this wasnt based on a bl novel i probably wouldnt even put it here but it IS and thus, here we are. this was basically stripped of anything that made it gay, with vague subtext at best. so it doesnt do its job as well as the untamed or guardian but hey! this show has women who are their own people with agency and that is what ultimately sold me on it. while the corporate drama gets a bit dry, there is enough gratuitous violence to keep you entertained if youre into that
i think to get anything out of it in a gay way you really have to be into the dynamic between the two leads which i wasnt
i dont know man. this show is good but its barely gay. so dont watch it if thats what youre looking for.
-
27. 2gether
Thai Drama - 2020, 13 episodes
cw: internalized homophobia, references to sexual assault
story: 4/10
characters: 6/10
pairings: 4/10
anger scale: 9.5/10i'm angry with this show. it's not bad per se, but it drags on in places and everyone in it is annoyingly stupid im sorry. sarawat's jealous streak is really kind of a bother, and i wish the show had ended after sarawat and tine got together, or at least had started focusing on them much less. and i think the final big drama caused by a simple misunderstanding is completely overblown, asinine and stupid. the way its resolved also isnt satisfying or realistic... so im bummed.
this is all my personal opinion obviously and you might feel completely different about it which is valid. personally i don't find sarawat and tine to be an engaging relationship at all, which really puts me on the fence in regards to this showalso, green deserved better
-
28. Love Sick Season 2
Thai Drama - 2015, 36 episodes
cw: rape jokes, cheating, homophobia, rl shipping
this show is one of the Original Thai Gay Shows, and for that it's genuinely pretty good. a lot of annoying het side plots are sadly a given with older stuff. but you can just watch a bl cut (recommended honestly)
and yes the sequel is better than the original. gasp -
29. Love Sick
Thai Drama - 2014, 12 episodes
cw: rape jokes, cheating, homophobia, rl shipping
this show is one of the Original Thai Gay Shows, and for that it's genuinely pretty good. a lot of annoying het side plots are sadly a given with older stuff. but you can just watch a bl cut (recommended honestly)
the original gimmick is bit weird but thankfully phun's sister turns out to be a lot better than the initial impression might make her seem
earn best boy -
30. Why R U?
Thai Drama - 2020, 13 episodes
cw: nsfw, like, very nsfw without showing any actual sex scenes. attempted rape/sexual assault (fighter -> tutor) , rl shipping, rl fiction, internalized homophobia, homophobic parent
story: 5/10
characters: 7/10
pairings: 8/10
anger scale: 7/10well, this show is a bit of a ride. it plays into a lot of bl tropes, unfortunately, but is for the most part inoffensive. fighter's character arc is for the most part pretty rewarding just to be cut short by the unnecessary sexual assault scene. everyone in this show is pretty stupid and makes stupid decisions and doesnt talk about their feelings enough. standard drama stuff
zon and saifah are so sweet, im almost willing to forgive this show for everythingwhy r u ran into trouble production wise because of the corona virus, which led to zon and saifah having their screentime cut short and plot points being left unresolved or rushed
also this show is Very horny. it's really not for everyone. but if you're into that, this is the show for you
the most offensive part in this show was when th*rnt*pe cameo'd
-
31. Itsuka no Kimi e
Japanese Movie - 2007
cw: questionable handling of the one mc's mental illness, death of a family member
-
32. The Boy Next Door
Korean Drama - 2017, 15 episodes
cw: casual homophobia
this show...is really funny. and its definitely worth a watch, even though im sad to say that the two leads dont end up together. but its really really funny
-
33. 2 Moons 2
Thai Drama - 2019, 12 episodes
cw: nsfw
this show is pretty.. safe... and sadly a bit boring. but it is ultimately so much better than it's predecessor. i really like the new cast
-
34. My Dear Loser: Edge of 17
Thai Drama - 2017, 9 episodes
cw: bullying is a huge part of the show, homophobia
even the hets are pretty good! - me, 2019
this is the first time ive seen compulsive heterosexuality addressed in one of these shows. not by name but nonetheless - it's pretty good -
35. Seven Days: Friday - Sunday
Japanese Movie - 2015
cw: none
this is based on the (better. as always.) manga by the same name. i just love the whole gimmick, and the execution is cute too. i dont think it had to be two movies tho. it really drags on sometimes
-
36. Seven Days: Monday - Thursday
Japanese Movie - 2015
same as above
-
37. Sotus
Thai Drama - 2016, 15 episodes
cw: can't remember anything notable
its ok. not really my fav but i get why its popular! i think it's definitely worth a watch
-
38. Udagawachou de Matteteyo
Japanese Movie - 2015
cw: sexual harassment, initially the one guy blackmails the second lead by threatening to expose that they like to dress as a woman but i swear it turns out ok
somehow i found this movie to be better than the manga, probably in part because it removed the rape scene, but also because it handles the gender stuff a bit better (imo)
this can very well be interpreted as a straight love story between a trans woman and a cis guy, it's up to the viewer and i like that. or maybe a love story between a genderfluid person and a cis guy?? yknow!! you gotta watch it and see for yourself tbh -
39. My Bromance
Thai Drama - 2016, 12 episodes
cw: suicide, death of a parent, discussion of mental illness, homophobia (including use of homophobic slurs), domestic abuse, abusive parents (abuse graphically shown multiple times), homophobic parents, parent with alzheimer's, parents with serious illnesses, alleged sexual assault, stepbrother romance, cheating, rl shipping
this show is....something, to say the least. a lot happens, and it can be difficult to keep up with. i like how this show deals with most of it's subject matters. but it's a difficult watch. and sadly some story threads end with no satisfying conclusion
i think the biggest problem this show has is it's characters - too many of them, too little development, too little personality. in the end only golf was a three-dimensional characterhaving a bland protagonist such as bank didn't work in the show's favor. i think it was probably as much the writing as it was the somewhat lackluster performance from his actor... but it was hard to see how everyone likes him so much
i don't like how this show ends, but it's nonetheless still one of the better thai gay dramas i've seen
p.s. there is No teacher/student relationship in this show! dont worry!
-
40. HIStory: My Hero
Taiwanese Special - 2017, 4 episodes
cw: can't remember anything of note
this is my favorite out of the original 3 historys, and also probably my favorite take on this particular trope in general (not that it's very common or anything). definitely worth a watch
-
41. Friend Zone
Thai Drama - 2018, 12 episodes
cw: cheating
ok well. difficult one to recommend. its hard to see singto hurt so much. stud is such an idiot i cant believe it
i dont really know what else to say. this is about cheating. and its painful
-
42. Slam Dance
Thai Drama - 2017, 13 episodes
cw: homophobia, internalized homophobia
minor as they are, there are gays in this and they're Good. their relationship sort of happens as catalyst for a major plot point and then they stop being important.... but i enjoyed what little time i had with them!
aside from canon gays theres some... homoeroticism to be found in other places in this show too. *coughs* ryu, bas and singh *coughs*
-
43. The Lover
Korean Drama - 2015, 12 episodes
cw: some nsfw, internalized homophobia
takujae are just really cute and iconic
-
44. Senior Secret Love: Puppy Honey
Thai Drama - 2016, 6 episodes
cw: internalized homophobia
pick has an awful case of "im definitely straight!" disease, despite clearly being attracted to rome. it's pretty frustrating
-
45. Senior Secret Love: Puppy Honey 2
Thai Drama - 2017, 8 episodes
cw: internalized homophobia, emotional manipulation
if you thought pick's denial was bad in the first season, you just wait....
the magic of pickrome is that somehow their our skyy episode managed to save their relationship, at least in my eyes
-
46. Love by Chance
Thai Drama - 2018, 14 episodes
cw: rape (played for laughs. kengkla -> techno), gang rape (tar's backstory), attempted rape (on a rape victim!) (tum -> tar), bullying, casual homophobia, homophobia, stepbrother romance, nonconsensual kissing, nsfw
ae's actor was 16/17 when this was filmed, which can be pretty uncomfortableaepete are cute and good, tincan are the stars of the show. the other two pairings are really really bad. really really bad. i recommend skipping over them entirely
there is a tincan cut on youtube and that might be the best way to experience the show -
47. Happy Together
Taiwanese Drama - 2015, 15 episodes
it's been quite a while since i watched this so i don't remember much but i believe i found it to be quite cute. i dont think anything Bad happened
-
48. Dark Blue and Moonlight
Taiwanese Drama - 2017, 12 episodes
cw: cheating
i like how this show portrays depression. the ending is quite.... divisive. you will either hate it or love it
-
49. Water Boyy: The Movie
Thai Movie - 2015
cw: cheating, unhealthy age difference (coach and karn, coach is like way older in the movie which just makes it worse)
this movie is kind of a hot mess but meuk and nam really have chemistry and nam is a far more sympathetic and lovable character than waii (his waterboyy the series counterpart) will ever be. meuk is kind of the asshole in this one (to his girlfriend primarily)
it gets a little bit too dramatic towards the end but (spoilers) fortunately it has a good ending!! maybe just skip over the karn/coach scenes -
50. Taiikukan Baby
Japanese Movie - 2008
cw: suicide attempt, nonconsensual kiss
i really like this one, its a bit dramatic but the ending is so cute
-
51. Yandai Byway No.10
Chinese Drama - 2016, 10 episodes
cw: homophobia, internalized homophobia, forced kisses, sexual harassment
well, this show is unfinished of course. season 2 never got made and probably never will. so you have to go in expecting a. unsatisfying cliffhanger ending
other than that this show is alright, its a bit ridiculous, hang hang is insecure and lashes out because of it which creates....drama, that feels a bit ridiculous in places. some stuff doesnt really make sense. but hey when its cute its cute and when its funny its funny! -
52. En of Love: Love Mechanics
Thai Drama - 2020, 4 episodes
cw: cheating, forced kiss, drunk sex/borderline rape (offscreen)
i watched this because mark is cute, left with the conclusion that he deserves better than vee. this was tighter than tossara and also more fun to watch so i recommend it more. but like, only if youre out of other shows to watch, yknow?
-
53. En of Love: TOSSARA
Thai Drama - 2020, 4 episodes
cw: cant think of anything
i understand why this show has the shortcomings it has - its short, the actors are newcomers, the budget was probably small.... so the story is rushed, the acting isnt amazing, the production lacking
but..... but... 2020 because of you exists, faced similar challenges, and is still far better in my opinion. its possible to tell an engaging story in a small runtime. hell, history2: crossing the line is probably about the same length and its one of the best shows ive ever seen. so...
this isnt an offensive show by any means. its just boring
-
54. My Dream
Thai Drama - 2018, 12 episodes
cw: rape (handled somewhat appropriately), death of a family member, sexual assault
dream having known runway since a kid and being implied to have been attracted to him all this time is. just plain creepy. their relationship is honestly just. boring and creepy.the plot of this show is convoluted, hard to understand and boring... but i think it's still worth watching it - for the secondary couple alone! they really carried the show for me!! i love them so much
-
55. I Am Your King
Thai Drama - 2017, 5 episodes
cw: underage characters doing pretty...sexual things
ok well this show is fine i suppose. i dont really have anything to say about it
-
56. The Moment
Thai Drama - 2020, 4 episodes
cw: fake attempted suicide
this series is fine. it may feel disorienting at times and is a bit overly dramatic for my taste but its nothing Offensive (outside of that fake suicide attempt)
managed to convey a surprising amount of depth in just 4 short episodes -
57. Befriend
Taiwanese Drama - 2018, 24 episodes
cw: nothing of note
SPOILER: they don't end up together unfortunately
-
58. Antique Bakery
Korean Movie - 2008
cw: attempted rape, homophobia
this movie is pretty fun for the most part! for it's age it holds up pretty well
-
59. Water Boyy
Thai Drama - 2017, 14 episodes
cw: attempted rape (waii -> apo), lesbian character is implied to develop romantic feelings for a guy, homophobia, internalized homophobia (waii and kluay...), questionable age difference (karn/coach), homophobic slurs, cheating, bullying
you will probably be shocked to hear this but my favorite part about this show are the hets. i love min and wan. though min is an idiot sometimes
i love apo the most tho i want him to be happy...i dont think the fact that the het ship is my favorite out of the 5 ships total (3 are same gender ships) really speaks for the series in the end. waii/apo isnt good... the second gay ship is. questionable... the lesbian ship isnt good and.... i.... i still rewatched this show 2 times. i dont know. i think it has a special place in my heart because waterboyy the movie was my first thai bl movie and waterboyy the series was my first thai bl series

60. Kiss Me Again
Thai Drama - 2018, 14 episodes
cw: nonconsensual kissing
i only watched the petekao cut because i dont have time for the hets. petekao is one of the iconic thai bl ships so this show is worth experiencing just for that. no you dont have to watch kiss

61. Addicted
Chinese Drama - 2016, 15 episodes
cw: sexual assault (gu hai -> yin zi, i.e. the main couple), attempted rape/straight up rape (gu hai -> yin zi), cheating, stepbrother romance/incest (though i almost dont want to count it as such since they dont find out that they're each others stepbrothers until 10 episodes into the show), internalized homophobia, bullying
frankly, i didn't hate the experience of watching this show as uncomfortable as some scenes were. as horrible as gu hai could get
but i still dont recommend watching it. it ends on a cliffhanger and season 2 is probably never happening. unless you really dont have anything else to watch -
62. Advance Bravely
Chinese Drama - 2017, 30 episodes
cw: transphobia, homophobia, stalking, assault, animal death (a chicken), attempted surgery without consent (they tie him up and everything, and then its played for laughs a bit), probably the most misogynist show ive seen in a while
ok so this show..... has it's sweet moments... sometimes? and it has a certain aesthetic going that i support but other than that this show is.... pretty bad. and the novel is even worse

63. RH Plus

65. Thank God It's Friday
Thai Drama - 2019, 12 episodes
cw: controlling family member, internalized homophobia
important: the final episode has never been officially subbed or fansubbed as far as i know.
this show had potential to be something, but as it stands it doesn't even work as a nostalgia piece for love sick (which it was apparently intended to be). bad acting aside (theyre clearly all beginners so i can honestly overlook that, i can tell they did their best!) what really bothered me was the extremely slow pacing and bad editing. every shot lingers just a little too long and it's easy to lose focus
there are also too many characters, so basically the same problem that love sick also suffered from. i mostly ended up just skipping the parts i didn't care about (so the hets, sorry)
this show isn't bad by any means.... but it's also not good. and i don't think it's worth watching
(shoutout to pluggy specifically for his stand-out performance (imo) por was definitely the most fun to watch character in the show)

67. ReminderS

68. Same Difference
Japanese Movie - 2014
cw: nothing of note i believe (might be mistaken tho)
this is a funny little movie. i think its hilarious how it plays with bl tropes.. but thats really all. it doesnt really have a story or anything... but thats ok

69. HIStory: Stay Away from Me
Taiwanese Special - 2017, 4 episodes
cw: stepbrother romance, rl shipping
two new stepbrothers meet for the first time and have to live together... and one of them is a conceited celebrity?! anyway this is more of a "oh my god they were roommates" story
im only against stepsibling romance when they grew up together tbh
the worst part of this show is actually the fujoshi girl that writes fanfictions about the two its. genuinely gross -
70. The Novelist
Japanese Drama - 2018, 6 episodes
cw: pretty explicit nsfw (haha), teacher/student porn (as in. that's a pornographic story within the show. not referring to the two leads theyre both adults)
this has a kiss with tongue in it and i think for that alone its kind of legendary
-
71. My Bromance
Thai Movie - 2014
this is the movie the show by the same name is based on. the thai one
cw: major character death, homophobia, homophobic parents, car accident, major injuries
this movie isnt the worst thing ever but its really sad............and then they retconned the whole death thing in a 5min special so they could release a sequel in 2020 *SIGH*
-
72. Together with Me
Thai Drama - 2017, 13 episodes
cw: cheating, questionable age difference (farm and bright), nonconsensual kissing, sexual harassment
this show made me feel burning hatred and i do not like it. the only draw is that kornknock is h*t and this is the best iteration of their relationship (it goes downhill from here!)
SPOILERS: farm was my favorite character but by the end he turns into a copy of bright and it upsets me so much. when they broke up i cheered but it was also already too late for farm's character. and it just gets worse in season 2 from what ive heard AND THEN HE AND BRIGHT WILL END UP TOGETHER AGAIN? I HATE IT THANKS.
i also dont like how the bad behavior of knock's girlfriend is primarily a tool to make him cheating on her seem less bad. god this show is bad -
73. Bad Romance
Thai Drama - 2016, 13 episodes
cw: does korn being an asshole qualify as a cw? also dubcon..
its in the title - this is a bad romance. this is probably kornknock at their worst - korn being extremely jealous whenever knock so much as talks to another man... i... it just gets really really frustrating and upsetting!!!! i dont think this show is worth watching in the slightest
-
74. Make It Right
Thai Drama - 2016, 12 episodes
cw: rape
there's nothing hot or romantic about rape. nothing. dont watch this. the main couple Might be worth it, but not really
-
75. HIStory3: Make Our Days Count
Taiwanese Special - 2019, 20 episodes
cw: pedophilic relationship (sun bo is a high schooler around 17 and zhigang is in his late twenties/early thirties), nsfw (including an explicit sex scene between sun bo and zhigang), , MAJOR character death/bury your gays, bad ending, car accident, bullying
this show is good, its great. xigu/hao ting's side of the story, that is. this could have been in second or third place, but it doesn't deserve to be. sun bo's relationship with zhigang is romanticised and sexualized (there is an explicit sex scene between the two of them) despite being unhealthy. their questionable age difference is as acknowledged humorously, joked about even by sun bo's adult cousin. if this makes you uncomfortable (it should tbh) i highly recommend skipping this show, or at least their scenes. because xigu/hao ting is genuinely beautifulif you only watch the first 16 (or 8 if youre on viki) episodes you can pretend everything ends ok.
SPOILERS:
there is nothing quite like a show lulling you into a fake sense of security and happiness just to rip it into shreds....just like that. there are a lot of genuinely sweet scenes in this show, the actors have amazing chemistry (<- all in regard to yu xi gu and hao ting) and the character writing is really good - which arguably makes the betrayal far worse. youre truly invested in these two when the show pulls the trigger. it kills yu xi gu off for NO valid reason. it happens in the last episode, so there won't be any time for us and the characters to grieve and learn to move on. its senseless, its all pure shock value and i loathe it for that

76. TharnType
Thai Drama - 2019, 12 episodes
this is the worst show ever made
cw: deeply homophobic lead (type), rape backstory (type, but also remember tar from love by chance - hes in this too), sexual assault, pedophilia (type's backstory), nsfw
as of episode 9:
homophobe finds out that his roommate is gay and goes ballistic and tries to get him out of the room by waging war against him but the gay roommate is (gasp) in love with him??? and i guess still is even after he finds out that the homophobe is... a homophobe? tharn is literally a traitor lmao. type is a literal monster. no amount of trauma justifies being such a hateful and disgusting asshole. even after he starts fucking tharn (I DONT GET IT) he's still holding onto his homophobic views!!! EVEN AFTER HIS BEST CHILDHOOD FRIEND COMES OUT TO HIM AS GAY!!!! i know this show is Somehow gonna end with him not being homophobic anymore because he isnt a homophobe in love by chance?? but right now hes the worst person alive... ALMOST
because the true monster is actually... Lhong. he's behind what happened to tar. it's his fault. he is vile. absolutely everyone in this show is vile Except for tar, thorn and thanya whomst i will all protect. yes techno sucks hes friends with a homophobe.fuck you if you like this
"homophobes are people too" the series
