☆My Favorite Asian Movies of all times☆
- These movies have a special place in my heart, they are ♥ ᖰꞅⲉⲥⲓσᥙട ♥
It is either because they hit my emotions so hard, made me a happy memory by simply watching them, or left an impression that never dies (ಥ ͜ ಥ)
Although not all are necessarily listed on top films to watch, I guarantee that they are WELL-MADE, UNIQUE, BEAUTIFUL, and MEMORABLE ✮✮
Edit: I just realized that all the movies I love are so bleak XD

1. Memories of Murder
Korean Movie - 2003
A must-watch classic
This is one of the very first k-movies I've ever watched. Some scenes are still vivid in my mind because of how raw and shocking they felt. I don't care how many successful movies Bong Joon Ho makes, but this will remain his most brilliant one.

2. The Throne
Korean Movie - 2015
A Masterpiece in every sense of the word!
Never have I been as deeply traumatized by a movie as I was with The Throne. It excels in depicting one of the most tragic stories in Korean history, focusing every element to convey the profound humanity behind it—specifically the heartbreaking relationship between King Yeongjo and his son, Crown Prince Sado. The tragedy lies in how demanding and unrelenting the father was, expecting nothing less than perfection from a son who felt utterly chained, inadequate, and miserable to the point of obsession. Brilliant in every aspect, from its writing and storytelling to the powerful acting, cinematography, and music, every detail perfectly captures the somber atmosphere and speaks to the tragedy. Yoo Ah In’s performance is simply unforgettable; his portrayal of Sado’s anguish left me devastated for months, making this film an emotional experience like no other.

3. Bleak Night
Korean Movie - 2011
The amount of frustration this film manages to build through just simple dialogues, the acting of a newbie cast, and humble yet delicate camera work is insane! It depicts loneliness in a way that will create a lump in your throat and leave you suffocating, bewildered, and conflicted.
This is the excellent debut of director Yoon Sung Hyun, and one of the best K-indie films.

4. Time to Hunt
Korean Movie - 2020
What might sound like an average thriller happens to stir something much deeper within me. The more I reflect on this movie, the more it seeps into my soul and strikes. Disguised in its stylish setting and nerve-wracking thrill, this movie delves into the fear of confronting life’s challenges. Few directors can evoke such emotional depth and complexity from their actors like Yoon Sung Hyun does here. It's truly a pleasure to witness this talented cast bring these feelings to life under his direction.

5. Us and Them
Chinese Movie - 2018
This movie left me in a state of deep denial. Calling it bittersweet doesn’t do it justice, as it leans heavily toward the painful side. The bond between the protagonists is so captivating—you can strongly feel their struggle as they navigate youth and poverty. Yet, it’s also deeply agonizing because, despite their love for each other, their relationship simply doesn’t work, and they can't be together. The cinematography beautifully captures this tension, amplifying the bittersweet, lingering sense of despair that stays with you long after watching.

6. Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned
Korean Movie - 2016
A rollercoaster of emotions!

7. Han Gong Ju
Korean Movie - 2014
One of the most painful movies I’ve ever watched—disturbing and gruesome. The film slowly strips its main character, and the audience, of any brightness, hope, or reason to keep going. It doesn’t just make you pity her from a distance; it makes you cry out in agony as if you’re in her place. The storytelling moves back and forth, stealthily uncovering layers of filth, darkness, and injustice. I’ve seen many films dealing with bullying and rape, but this is the first time I found myself trembling in fear, disgust, and denial because of it. I’ve seen cruel movies before, but rarely have I felt such a strong connection to reality—because, tragically, this is the reality we live in. The raw, powerful performance by Chun Won Hee and the cunning screenplay by director Lee Su Jin make this film unforgettable.
