Underrated & Underappreciated Dramas
Kdramas that are either underrated, underappreciated or used to be popular but seem forgotten now.
-
1. Zombie Detective
Korean Drama - 2020, 24 episodes
A zombie that struggles to adapt to the human society?
An absolute gem of comedy.
Choi Jin Hyuk portrayed this character with perfection and will make you feel quite attached to it towards the end. -
2. Gunman in Joseon
Korean Drama - 2014, 22 episodes
It starts off with lots of politics & weird silly scenes which is why i needed two attempts to watch it, but once you get into the story it unfolds and gets so much better.
For a 2014 drama it has a nice 2010 melodrama feel, which i totally love.
Plus the time period between Joseon dynasty & modern times is also an interesting part of the story.
If you love Robin Hood stories, don't miss out on this one.
And with Lee Joongi they got the best actor they could get, his role fits him perfectly.
Just get past episode 2 and you'll surely come to love it!

3. Modern Farmer
Korean Drama - 2014, 20 episodes
This drama is very outstanding in a certain way, not everyone will love it since it is a very wild ride, and a weird one at that.
It's so over the top, but in a good way, made me laugh so much.
A few parts can come off as draggy, but it is one of the funniest most positive dramas i have seen. I watched it at the same time as You Who Came From The Stars and whenever i felt heartbroken i would go and watch a new episode of MF.
I loved especially Hongkis role as Lee Minki and Kwak Dongyeon as Han Kijoon. The general chemistry between the cast and especially the 4 main guys was great.
By the same writer as Waikiki, This is definitely not your average drama.

4. Iris
Korean Drama - 2009, 20 episodes
One of my first and all time fave dramas.
From todays view it looks a bit slowin the beginning but it is absolutely action packed and an emotional rollercoaster.
There's lots of action, suspense, but also romance and friendship and even more action.
There's also a lot of plot twists that will keep you at the edge of your seat.
Lee Byunghun is the best actor for this kind of drama, i was impressed by the first episode alone.
But do not watch the movie, it doesn't do the drama justice AT ALL. It's just afast paced compilation of what's happening in the drama and pretty confusing.

5. Arthdal Chronicles Part 1: The Children of Prophecy
Korean Drama - 2019, 6 episodes
Absolutely underrated, the only high fantasy drama that south korea has to show.
The plot is very tight with so much to tell, the characters are all very complex, even the side characters, strong badass female characters, beautiful cinematography, wonderful instrumental OSTs.
So much that everything can't be told in the first season so we will get a second season finally in 2023, sadly with 2 new leads and possibly more actors replaced, and there was also a 10 years skip in the talks which wouldn't make sense with the current plot. -
6. Hyde, Jekyll, Me
Korean Drama - 2015, 20 episodes
As a first time seeing Hyun Bin, I was impressed by how he portrayed the two characters.
I saw some people complain about the romance part in this drama since it's not as prominent as in other dramas and not too well executed, and also some plot holes that i could easily overlook, and i think that's why it'srated more low.
If you watch it without big expectations it will be quite enjoyable, and if you're a fan of Hyun Bin it won't be a let down~Many compared the drama to Kill Me Heal Me, because it aired at the same time and both protagonists suffer from the same mental illness, but these dramas are so totally different that they shouldn't be compared.

7. Dr. Frost
Korean Drama - 2014, 10 episodes
This drama is based on the webtoon by the same name (absolutely recommended to read).
It has no romance, it's focussing mainly on crimes and solving them with the help of a man called Doctor Frost, who has no emotions but can read peoples body language & facial expressions perfectly.
Pretty interesting if you're interested in human psychology~

8. Duel
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
Even though it has high ratings i feel like no one's ever talking about this masterpiece, there was no romance but it wasn't even needed to make it interesting. Yang Sejong played his two roles very well & the story was pretty great, too.

9. Blood
Korean Drama - 2015, 20 episodes
Blood got me more hooked in the second half of the drama, it might not be the most outstanding one, but it left a good impression on me even years later and not all dramas can do that.
It is one of those typical vampire dramas, only that this vampire works as a doctor, while also fighting for justice and love.

10. Moorim School
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
It's a kind of school drama but not really a school drama at the same time, it's about magic and friendships, but it's not a cheesy kind of school friendship drama.

11. The Girl Who Sees Scents
Korean Drama - 2015, 16 episodes
It's based on a webtoon by the same name (absolutely recommended to read, the webtoon is way different from the drama, only few elements are overlapping, a must read)
Park Yoochun & Nam Goongmin were pretty oustanding in their acting, i was very thrilled & scared by NGM's acting as a serial killer, he gave me the chills, he was really scary.
The concept alone is pretty cool, the drama did it's own thing executing a story based on what was given by the webtoon and was quite interesting to watch.

12. Beethoven Virus
Korean Drama - 2008, 18 episodes
I think it used to be somewhat popular but since it's old it isn't talked ab out anymore,
This drama surely is a hidden gem, something you have no big expectations of but turns out amazing and makes you emotionally invested and also makes you highly interested in classical music for no reason. -
13. Familiar Wife
Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes
Ji Sung and Han Jimin had amazing chemistry in this drama, yet not many talk about it.
The plot was great as well and teaches you to appreciate what you already have more. -
14. Memories of the Alhambra
Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes
Amazing sci-fi drama, circling around an AR game that interacts with the real world, similar to VR but more realistic. Another Hyun Bin drama that seems overlooked because of it's unique concept that many seem to have no trust in. Don't watch this for the romance tho, it's more focussed on the game and action.

15. Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People
Korean Drama - 2017, 30 episodes
A great historical drama that is not talked about a lot, but definitely one of the best.
It has 30 episodes, so more than the average drama, but they will go by in no time while watching. -
16. Terius Behind Me
Korean Drama - 2018, 32 episodes
An awesome spy drama with a lot of heartfelt moments, So Ji Sub was brilliant as always, the two kids were very adorable as well. The romance is only very very subtle tho, could've been more.

17. The Nokdu Flower
Korean Drama - 2019, 48 episodes
it starts a little slow but with every episode it's getting more interesting, great cast
