30. Call Boy
Japanese Movie - 2018
○ june 27
This was extremely... explicit. Call Boy was borderline soft porn, but with underlying tones of sadness, disconnection from society, and eventually, discovery of one’s purpose in life. The movie did not demonize sex and sex work (it is voluntary, unlike sex trafficking); there were lots of sexual exploration in the movie, but everything was consensual and the male lead remained respectful and open-minded until the very end.

31. Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight
Japanese Movie - 2019
○ july 9
Cute and fast-paced. Kinda irky since the female lead was still in high school. Thankfully, they never did anything physical besides from holding hands, and her being underage was addressed. Bless the time skip. Other than that, a typical shoujo romance and a mindless watch.

32. He Won't Kill, She Won't Die
Japanese Movie - 2019
○ july 9
The film follows three stories; three pairs that never interacted with each other, but are still seemingly interwoven together.
The first pair is Nana, a girl who habitually cuts her wrist but values the lives of those around her, and Rei, a guy who is callous to everyone around him. Together, these two oddballs found solace in each other. Second pair is Nadeshiko, a girl who keeps confessing to him, and Yachiyo, a guy who keeps rejecting her. Unbeknownst to him, each confession is slowly opening his heart towards her. The third and final pair is best friends Kyapiko and Jumiko (Yachiyo's sister). The former is a girl who keeps playing cute and dumb to get the attention of guys, while the latter is a perceptive plain girl who sees right through her friend's insecurities.
Everyone is the total opposite of one another, and nothing really happens in the movie. It’s mundane and sentimental, but it will hit you right before you know it. -
33. Teiichi's Country
Japanese Movie - 2017
○ july 11
An outlandish, over-the-top high school political satire with (surprisingly) so much heart and a compelling message. Awesome performances from some of Japan's current popular actors: Suda Masaki, Nomura Shuhei, Takeuchi Ryoma, Shison Jun, and Mamiya Shotaro!

34. Jigoku Shoujo
Japanese Movie - 2019
○ july 13
Jigoku Shoujo, or Hell Girl, deals with torment, hatred, revenge and (the lack of) repentance.
I've read that the other adaptations have episodic cases, and since the movie solely focused around the Dark Stardust artists, it just kinda fell flat because I couldn't take the main perpetrator seriously. -
35. Hyouka: Forbidden Secrets
Japanese Movie - 2017
○ july 15
Surprisingly not bad, considering the movie didn't pull me in right from the start. How can the mystery aspect be interesting and not interesting at the same time?
Thankfully, the second half really pulled through with the backstory 33 years ago. It left me feeling sad and frustrated; "that was certainly not a heroic tale" indeed. -
36. Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku
Japanese Movie - 2020
○ july 18
Wotakoi was so bad, it was kinda good. Nothing really happened because it was just an awkward romance between an anime otaku/fujoshi and a video game otaku. The weirdest part of the movie was how it was also a musical. Seeing Yamazaki Kento, Takahata Mitsuki, Nanao and Saito Takumi randomly singing and dancing was such a bizarre experience.
Despite being a ridiculously fun movie, the conflict and the ending made no sense; hence, the rating. -
37. The Chase
Korean Movie - 2017
○ july 20
The movie was not gripping for a crime thriller. The investigation process was too lax and had no sense of urgency or whatsoever. It was just flat.

38. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K
Japanese Movie - 2017
○ august 12
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K actually captured the wackiness and wtf-ery of the anime. Not sure if the bad CGI and bad wigs are intentional, but this movie is another case of how it’s so ridiculous, it’s also good.
The overall story focused on the school fair of PK Academy, so there isn’t much of a plot development. Despite the lack of plot, the movie will show its viewers how Saiki Kasuo truly has a disastrous life. Expect the movie to be one eventful and overly chaotic ride. Fun! -
39. Signal 100
Japanese Movie - 2020
○ september 18
Signal 100 was all about two things: blood and gore. Plot was paper-thin and predictable, but surprisingly enjoyable. The ending was kinda startling and confusing, so yeah, what the actual fvck.
