?Awesome?
Enjoyed this series a lot. The Director did a great job in expressing Ma Ke’s character here. I think the female lead’s character could have been done better though. The evolution of the story is amazing. It wasn’t ruched nor was it too slow. It has a good balance in the way the story was relayed on screen.
You may get exasperated sometimes with the FL character being stubborn to the extent that it wasn’t logical anymore but the rest of the series made up for it.
At the end I just wanted Ma Ke to get what he wanted 😂 I felt bad for him.
The costumes were excellent. The stunts were done well. I highly recommend this series to anyone. It may be old but it’s still a great watch.

Creatively done
This is my first Japanese BL series I watched. I like the simplicity of the storyline. I think they could have done a little better in providing a background for the main character at the start to provide an idea of how he behaves. You have to wait til towards the end of the episode to have a clear idea of the lead character’s behavior. As a viewer, my curiosity is what kept me watching. I’m glad that they continued the story. It is nicely done and there’s a segment where it’ll get your heart pumping. Was this review helpful to you?

Writer’s angst???
Safe to say this is a fantasy themed series. I only completed 4 episodes and might still change my rating and review after completion of the series .The writer piled up every suffering on the rich lad. Pretty much only two things going for him, son of a tycoon and his good looks and even lost being a child of a tycoon as a start. Left, right, up, down there’s constant issues thrown at this rich lad. Not educationally savvy, hard father, wicked step-mother, anxiety disorder, then turned poor, bullied by classmates, evil female friend, only person who saves him occasionally don’t like him, etc. what else ??? I’m exhausted just imagining what this kid if being put through. Then at the end he probably will also lose the two things that makes him feel content: parents and girlfriend. Then return to being a rich tycoon son, wicked stepmom, devil of an uncle and a brutal father.
I wish the story is more balanced out. My heart aches watching this series and still debating if I should continue or save myself the anxiety.

A great sample of incorrect casting.
Entire production is beyond expectations for this series. Beautiful sceneries, exceptional attention to detail is evident, CGI is decent, and wardrobe used was beautiful and fitted the scenes. Props were right for the scenes and quite imaginary for some of them. The story plot is good, stable, and smooth, transitioning flawlessly. The start to me can be better than the way they introduced the story.
There was anticipation for another costume series for Xiao Zhan so many followers of The Untamed looked forward to The Longest Promise. This was filmed in 2021. I watched this on Tencent app.
XZ as expected did well in his role as Shi Ying by showing his versatility in acting. He effectively used appropriate facial expression to enhance each and every scenes he was on. Although I have to admit that he didn't look like a young teenager that the role calls for.
In this series, Ren Min played the female lead Zhu Yan. I find her portrayal of the character exaggerated and a bit forced. She did good as Princess Hui Rou in Serenade of Peaceful Joy where most probably know her. I will be bold to fault the screenwriter and director on this for their goal of portraying a cute, independent and brave young lady translated on the screen as a loud, arrogant, obnoxious, know it all, little girl that made me not want to hear her talk anymore; the start of my contemplation to drop the series.
Each artist is beautiful in different way but Wang Chu Ran ended up looking way better than her in looks and acting in this series. It is difficult not to notice the difference while watching them on screen. It felt like, she didn't fit in this series at all. There is no flexibility in Ren Min's beauty. She stayed looking cute & young little girl that even after the scenes transitioning to adulthood, she still looked cute and a girl. She wasnt able to transition her looks to a mature lady.
I cringed and fast forward on romantic scenes of her and XZ. It is like a little young girl flirting with an adult man.
Even with this though, I thought I will finish the series but it became a struggle for me to continue and decided to be honest with myself and drop it if i am not enjoying it.
Have the FL been casted with an artists that fits the character well, this series I believe would have had a much higher rating.

Series personal review
IQIYI Paid SubscriptionSince I am not done watching this series, I will reserve editing this review after I complete the series. For now, my thoughts on this series:
I added this to my watch list due to their interesting promotion of it.
●The story started in a slow pace but it has something (maybe charm?) that kept my interest.
●Few times, I got confused and didnt understand what was going on causing me to backtrack few episodes and rewatched them again. I realized this is not the kind of series I can watch a few episodes, set aside to watch another series and then return to. It is a series wherein you truly need to focus and pay attention to fully enjoy the series. It will hook you like being hooked on solving a puzzle. It has a complicated story that kept me interested. There are a lot of twists and turns that are interconnected. Most times when I thought the mystery or situation was solved, it will show that it is connected to a bigger mystery or situation. It seems like a roller coaster.
●Excellent artists doing excellent work. Each character was portrayed convincingly. Chemistry between artists is good. The acting of all casts are superb.
●Director Yau showed his talent in creating an enjoyable series from a novel that is pure drama. His work with Mirror: Twin Cities is good but I think this series truly showed his talent in directing. His idea of focusing on actors facial expressions especially the eyes, fit perfectly to explain scenes with deceit and tricks. A viewer can understand and read the scene without words.
●cinematography is effective and smart. The use of lighting at proper scenes and adding blurred esthetic to give the notion of memories or thoughts were done perfectly.

Don’t expect romantic romance here
Took me a while to find the time and initiative to watch this series. I had it saved to watch because of Lee Jong Suk. I am more of a historical period fanatic and to watch other genre, I would have to have a good catalyst (e.g. favorite actress, cute actor, etc).So….on we go.
The plot is interesting enough for me so I invested time to watch it. Jong Suk didn’t disappoint with his charming and beautiful face. He can act too so it’s a plus.
Romance there was an attempt for it but seemed like the Director drastically failed to satisfy the audience. It could have evolved better that could have given this series a great push up.

Vatican might be shocked
Priest this handsome wearing earrings and love k-Pop and K-drama who can fight demons aside from performing exorcism at a very young age surely have a charming twist for the character. Just from this it is telling the audience it is a fantasy series so don’t get hung up with the religious aspect details. There’s 6 episodes for this season and it’s jammed packed minus the awakening of female lead’s power.
Given that there some scenes that they spent too much time on, it is still unbelievable how creative the Director of this series to be able to provide all important details in the first short season.
Artists casts harmoniously brought life to the characters.
Production is good but could be better: wardrobe obviously didn’t synch in one scene timeline but other than that it was good.
Will look forward to next season that will clarify the lead females core role.

Best Asian BL for 2021
I’m not going to give spoilers but I’ll say that for someone not into BL series, this kept me watching. This is a first acting job for one of the male lead Yang Yuteng and his portrayal exceeded my expectation for a new drama actor. The story is light and nice. Don’t get fooled by season 1 being for young viewers because season 2 progressed to their adulthood. I think the wardrobe could have been improved though. I noticed that it circled within 3 outfits for the entire show. The storyline is really good and applicable to the life young generations are facing nowadays. One thing I’ll say, you’ll forget that you are watching a BL drama and focus more on the emotions and situations their dealing with. I highly recommend this drama series to anyone. Was this review helpful to you?
Too typical
I like period dramas and Xu Kai have done well in previous ones I have seen. He seems to be doing well in this kne too and i was enjoying it until the episode that their romance started. It is starting to be too ttpical for most period dramas to have a hero who is in persuit of a goal and then romance starts. Then theres a friend or colleague that becomes a rival and end up being an enemy. I guess i just watched too many of this same plot back to back that now this series became the straw that broke the camels back for me.
Can someone produce a period series wherein the romance is just 25% of the series and the rest focused on achieving goals and dreams?
The female lead has a cold demeanor, Xu Kai's character has a cold demeanor. The brother of Xu Kai seems important but his story is going to slow.
The romance started before even having a slight explanation of where Xu Kai got his exemplary power. Yes his mother is a transcendent but his father is a regular joe. What made his more powerful than the others who has both parents as transcendent? The lead female acting at a point looks like shes just doing the job and her heart isnt into the role. It may just be me.
Other characters are good and enjoyable. Seriously the romance starting and i just lost interest.
My review is just my feelings and thoughts. I enourage all to watch it because it seems good. If you are not sick of the typical plot of hero after pursuit then starts a romance with a friend turning into an enemy because of a girl, then this is a good one to watch for you.
Production is good, costumes/wardrobe is good, I am not too crazt of the soundtrack tho, characters are good.

Can be recycled
I will be harsh and it is not personally aimed at one specific person or thing. My disappointment for this series is a combination of almost the entire production: writer, casting, screenplay, director, artists, subtitle/translation and editing. Not even 5 scenes through and acting is already off. First episode office conversation scene between colleagues didnt make sense at all but I thought poor subbing as an excuse and kept on watching.
Came the second lead actor and it is screaming awkwardness. I blame the director now at this point since seriously, a new actor can still produce an average if not better scenes through the guidance of the director. I have seen this many many times with a lot of new Thai actors doing a series as a lead after playing an extra or supporting role once or twice.
The wardrobe probably is one I can compliment. The wardrobe changes fit scenes and nothing so far jn 2 episodes i watched that showed inconsistencies.
The sub for this series is so awful adding to the disappointment.
I think with better director, additional acting class and better editing, this series can be recycled.
I am seriously wondering how after the peoducers watched the finished product can they seriously think it is good enough to release.

I tried but couldn't
I started watching this to get ready for The Last Immortal. I am also a big fan of Wuxia/Xuanhuan/Xianxia. I read good reviews for this series in here too. Plus add Xu Kai in this series, I got ready for binge watching this series.I am in episode 8 and I am dropping this.
The production, wardrobe, acting and plot is good. I read somewhere that the Female Lead is a multi awardee actress and excellent in emotional roles however, she seemed awkward here in my perspective. It may also be the character role itself but Xu Kai's character seems to have limited range of expression. The story for me lacks luster. It wasn't able to keep my interest.
Preference is subjective. If you have this in your queue to watch, please do give it a try because my perspective is limited to episode 8. I just couldn't continue; I couldn't finish a single episode without dozing off. Take my review with a grain of salt and do give it a try.

Good mix but got boring
I like the idea of having a series that has a mixture of relationships male/female, female/female, male/male although by episode 6 I still yet to see a male/male focused relationship. It’s just too out there for the plot for me. I tried to hold on but it didn’t catch my interest at all.
There’s only 12 episodes and half way through there’s still nothing solid for the male lead. Everything around him is so ambiguous that half way through I don’t have a grasp nor an idea of what happened nor can I even imagine what happened. It’s too chaotic.
I dropped this series for that reason. It could have been a good one due to a clear representation of “love with no boundaries” if not done into a comical series.

Good plot Poor execution
I forced myself to finish the first episode to give it its deserved chance for having a good story plot. Episode one was a total disappointment in acting and directing. Over dramatic on facial expression and too much on romanticizing first encounter. Editing is poor that viewers can tell where scenes was cut and attached haphazardly.Wardrobe is good and production wasnt lacking.
I feel that if it had different actors, directed better, and edited better, this would have turned out really good.
The lead female and lead male doesnt have a clue how to act appropriately for a specific situation and the director actually let these artists get away with it.
This seems like an insult to the investors of this series and the viewers.
I hope there will be a remake of this series with better artist, director and editor.
