Overcome Evil by Good

There are a lot of anti-hero Korean dramas this days like Vincenzo, Doom At Your Service, and this one, Taxi Driver. I thoroughly enjoyed this show from start to finish. All the actors were amazing at their given roles. There were a lot of thought-provoking themes that would challenge your ethical standards and morality. Having said this, I really enjoyed all the lessons and takeaways this drama gave the viewers.

I am looking forward to another season. I just couldn’t get enough of their dynamics. I am also very satisfied with the ending. It was wrapped up very well and it would leave you with no regrets.

This is a good drama and you won’t regret spending this seeing it. It is definitely worth it.

Thank you and congratulations to all the cast, crew, and the entire production for giving the audience a stellar show. One of the best this year has to offer.

Loved everything but the romance

It’s been a while since I’ve watched this but I realized that I haven’t reviewed this yet. I loved every character on the show. It made me cry so many times, especially Min Chul and Dr Ko’s backstory, even Kaist’s. Looney is also a favorite so it was heartbreaking for me to see how he ended up in the story.

Lt. Paeng is my most fave of all jailguards. He has a cursing mouth but in reality a very warm-hearted man.

The only complaint I have on this show is the romance of the main lead and Ji-ho. For me, it was unnecessary since I am already filled with the bromance in the cell. I honestly skipped a lot of their romantic scenes, I am even more interested in the jail guard and the sister’s love story than the mains. Some of the characters that grew on me were suddenly dropped and never heard anything from them again.

Overall, I hope there’s a season 2 and I will surely watch it again.

Time-Travel Themed Dramas, Take Note From Kairos

I enjoyed watching this show and knowing it’s a time-travel themes drama, it wasn’t difficult to follow through the events. But there were moments it felt draggy but I could tolerate.

The actors did really well, and it was a satisfying ending. I really loved it that they didn’t force the male and female lead to have a love line. This is probably one of the best things that I’ve seen so far — a love that surrounds family and friends, and justice being served. It is also refreshing to see to policemen, prosecutors, and even the judiciary getting their work done, and not being trashy and corrupt.

Best takeaway is to not be afraid of the future but treasure each moment of your present.

One Season Only

“Kill it before it dies.” This is one of the things I learned in story writing as a Communication Arts major.

I enjoyed The Penthouse because of the unexpected twists and turns along the series. The characters are sick to the core except for some rare ones; so if you cannot stand evil characters winning and partying until the last episode, stay away from this show.

Knowing this show still has two more seasons to go (S2: 12 + S3: 12 = 24 more episodes left at 1-hour-long each), I am not sure if I could still wait for that long before I get the closure I need. I am afraid that the next episodes will just repeat, recycle, the plot they used in Season 1 because I don’t see the point (narrative-wise) to drag the show further. I can foresee that the next seasons might just bore the viewers resulting to the ratings plummeting, unless the show makers still has something more explosive and shocking up on their sleeves.

If you decide to watch this and have no patience to wait for a couple of months or more, just a very strong warning that you won’t get a satisfying ending by the end of S1. Better stay away and wait for the airing of the final episode of S3 and review of folks before you dive in.

As for me, I’m done with S1 and will just wait for the whole show to finish and bingewatch if I find it worth my time. The end of S1 is totally geared up to do another season so don’t expect a satisfying ending, really just a cliffhanger. Anyway, there are a lot of more wonderful dramas coming up this year so I don’t think I’d miss so much if I skip the next two seasons.

Again I emphasize, The Penthouse should have killed it on a higher note because it has a very high potential of losing viewers out of boredom and redundancy for stretching it further.

First Dropped Drama of 2021

I’m on episode 9 and I’ve lost interest in this drama. It is draggy, repetitive and nothing exciting to look forward to. I feel bad for Kang Ha Neul since he’s one of my fave actors. To those who know me, I rarely give up on a drama (yeah Mydramalist said I’ve seen almost 6,800 episodes of Kdramas, shows and movies) esp. when I’ve watched almost half of it, but this one, I really couldn’t. I don’t mind the controversies too. I can confidently say it didn’t affect how I rated and dropped this show.

I could no longer continue because of the story. At this point, I feel sleepy and uninterested. I don’t see the point in continuing how a princess goes in and out of the palace like flipping a switch on and off. She was introduced as a bad ass assassin but somewhere along the way, she regressed into making stupid and impulsive decisions, which is contrary to how she was built up. It was too ambitious for the show to have the female lead play both the role of the Queen mother and her daughter. Her portrayal of the queen missed the mark for me. She’s too young for the role and there wasn’t much of a motherly emotion emanating from her acting.

I could also foresee a cliche ending.

Acting is not bad though. I have problems with the plot and how slow moving it is. It is a fail for me. I cannot see imagine myself going through this boredom for 10 more episodes. If you’re presented Penthouse 2 or Mouse, this drama will sink in the river.

Out of curiosity and if I find time, I’d probably watch the last 2 episodes to see how it ends.

Forecasted Wasted Time

I am glad to have postponed watching this, and eventually deciding not to watch this anymore after six episodes. I feel like there is no promising plot ahead.

At first it was okay, enjoyable and all and it slowly bored me. Watching it became a chore. I think this is the first Park Min Young drama that I dropped. I don’t know why she’s always choosing office romance dramas these days. I kinda miss the old PMY like in Healer, or even a period drama like Queen for Seven Days. She should take a break from doing this office theme/genre.

Don’t Prolong Your Agony

If you haven’t started this show yet, better not start. It is way too boring. Nothing interesting plot to follow. I am utterly disappointed in this drama that I dragged myself to even reaching EP6. I’m glad that I dropped it early on and I saved my precious time.

I’m sorry but the leads have zero chemistry. Everything just pissed me off. The only thing that’s quite enjoyable is the sick female friend and her jerk of a cheating husband. The second leads were much better but still wasn’t enough to salvage the breaking show apart.

Overall, I’m glad that I made the right choice to drop it right away. It spared my time from getting wasted. If you are thinking of dropping it midway, follow my lead. Don’t hesitate. You won’t miss anything.

Beyond Evil There's Justice

I really enjoyed watching this drama. It was a rollecoaster of emotions and it kept me on the edge of my seat because of the plot twists. The acting is stellar, everyone did an amazing job with their roles.

I also kind of liked it that no romantic lovelines were forced but I was lowkey rooting for Ju Won and Jae Yi. I think they would look good together in a romcom. I find the actress who played her beautiful.

Even though this is a dark drama, I'd recommend this to others and it is worth a second watch for me. The ending is satisfying, with a hint of sadness, which I think is also the best way to end it.

Overall, I give Beyond Evil a 9/10. It was a good watch.

From Now On, Shorten the Showtime!

I’d be lying if I say that I enjoyed every single episode of this show. I skipped a lot of scenes and my heart didn’t flutter at the FL and ML romance plot. Their romance plot is non-existent despite how it’s pivotal to the plot.

I started fast forwarding, which is not a good sign because the show failed to keep me engaged. The show’s filled with fillers and I couldn’t understand how slow-paced it turned out to be. The three ghosts workers were an appreciated addition to the show and despite defying logic with that speaker-ghost translator device, I let it slide since they were funny.

I have no problems with their acting. It’s just that I didn’t like how this show was draggy and turtle-paced. Beginning at episode 10th, I had a hard time moving forward. And also there’s this feeling that after catching the villain, you somewhat nothing to look forward to in terms of plot.

Will I recommend this? Not at this time since a lot of interesting shows are coming up. I won’t even rewatch this in the future. Overall, this show is a meh, unless you’re a fan of the ML. Neither memorable nor a classic. Such a letdown since I loved Mystic Pop-up Bar, from the same writer.
