Both equally tragic and action oriented although Hwayi is more sinister from the start. Heavy bromances and messed up characters trying to fight their love for a messed up family. In Hwayi it's the family that kidnapped the main lead and raised him to be a monster. In Secretly the two spies act like parents toward the younger kid, even though he's a trigger happy north korean spy raised to be a monster. It's heartbreaking to see them love each other and also be forced to destroy one another.

Again, they're both stories with a soul. And extremely bromance heavy. Secretly Greatly is about spies and Friend is about gangsters. The tragedy aspect Secretly is definitely more tragic but Friend isn't a pretty story either.

Even though the movie is about an actor this touches the gangster world and the feeling of desperation of the main characters is so realistic you feel like it's happening to you. And this one also has plenty of hardcore nude scenes Lee Joon is also beautiful.

These two movies are similar in the sense that the same low level thugs become hotshot gangsters. But another film where you are always in mystery and never know who's screwing over the other. The script is subtle and it's beautifully shot.

Tazza has the same kind of dark messed up story where the male lead gets screwed over by people and tries to get over it. Another proper gangster film. There are some love scenes but definitely nothing as bold as Emperor.

It's a drama but has the same noir feel and darkness. The leads have amazing bromance and their chemistry was outstanding.

The main lead isn't a gangster but more like a homeless thug who does petty crimes and is also involved in crimes with other gangs but the reason I'm mentioning this one is because of the same feel of dark and gritty underbelly of the city feel of both movies. In Derailed Choi Minho's character loves the girl desperately and she gets taken.

Gritty. Amazing action. Solid acting. Bromance heavy. Main lead Taemin becomes the killer's target and Park Hae Jin gets similarly affected in a different way.

A bit different genre wise, Final Life has a more scifi element and Cruel City is very much a noir gangster story but the similarities are in how neither of these shows are without flaws but they get to you and don't let go. Both are more bromance heavy. Both have phenomenal action. Both have messed up characters with traumatic backstories. Both will leave you a crying mess.

Genre wise Final Life has a scifi element and its artistic but more emphasis is given to the two male leads and their relationship and on the crime just like Hello Monster. In Hello Monster the two brothers Seo In-guk and Park Bo-gum go through hell because of a serial killer and its such a sad, heartbreaking story when Seo In-guk realizes that his own brother is the killer. He's torn between having to protect him and sending him to prison. In Final Life Taemin is the one who went through some torturous medical experimentation and is assigned to Shota's unit to solve a crime but ends up being the target of the killer himself. Shota the cop in the same unit who lost a younger brother at a very young age, and still thinks he was responsible for the kid's death. So when he finds himself in the role of Taemin's protector, he will go to any lengths to do it even if it's 'wrong.'
