I need a sequel.

Although it felt more like the first episodes of a 40 - 50 episode costume drama, I still enjoyed it.

Story:
Absolutely predictable (in a good way). Even though you saw some plot twists coming, they would suprise you here and there and never enough to throw you for a loop in the worst possible way. The story was entertaining, action packed, funny and heartwarming. I smiled when I should have, I (almost) cried when I should have and I felt good afterwards.

Acting:
Everyone was perfectly cast. I was never annoyed with a single character.

Music:
I shall definitely download the OST as soon as I am done writing this review.

Rewatch:
I will only rewatch after the sequel has been released... A quick refreshing of the mind

That being said, I need a part two.... Sometime between now and forever.... I will gladly wait (✯ᴗ✯)

This is as far as I will go.

Based solely on the first 12 episodes.

.

The story is good. The acting is okay. The music is great. In almost 12 episodes, RFY was able to give me a wonderful costume drama with riveting palace politics, a flawless coup d'etat, a heart racing love story and Ju Jing Yi in not one, but TWO gorgeous wedding dresses.

What more could I ask for?

There is no need for me to continue. I don't want to see them struggling with love rivals, easily resolvable misunderstandings and an unnecessary breakup for the next TWENTY EIGHT EPISODES.

TWENTY EIGHT.

This drama has a happily ever after right here, right now at the start of episode 12.

I'm okay. Now I'll listen to the OST on repeat.

I'm bored.

"I have never watched any of Shen Yue or Jerry Yan's dramas, so I have nothing to reference them to. For the first roles I have seen them in, I think they are doing a wonderful job at playing their characters. I think this is dubbed....and it is not dubbed well. It feels fake everytime they speak. The first episode did not draw my attention. It was an okay start, but there were too many predictable moments. Shen Yue's acting is very natural and wonderful to watch, but even she could not save the cringe-y writing. I guessed 80% of the plot as I was watching. I hope they throw a delightful curveball my way as the story progresses."

I wrote that 3 months ago. I never picked it up ever again. And I won't. *Sigh, sigh, sigh* I'm not even sure if I made it to episode 4, I just know I don't want to watch this anymore.

Side note:

I recently watched Miles Wei in Perfect and Casual. He is such a dreamboat. I can't watch him as a second lead. Professor Zhang deserves better.

I feel so disrespected.

What even is this?????? I'm so confused??!?!!!! Why would the scriptwriter/screenwriter decide to make a story like this?????!???!!?

11 episodes into the drama and I wish I had stopped at episode 1. This drama really isn't for me. It has little elements from all of my favourite Chinese costume dramas, yet it somehow doesn't live up to their greatness (or even comes close). The story is all over the place, toooooooo predictable and ridiculously repetitive at the same time.

I don't care for the main couple. There love story is giving me a headache. Dragon King is doing so much for Liuying/Ah Yu, she'll never know until she gets her memory back. Then there's the Immortal of Fate who is sketchy is hell. And the secondary couple (Qingqing and Lord Xue) who are CARRYING this drama. All the comments on YouTube are about how cute they are and how people are only watching for their parts (I am people).

Then, the possibility of an unhappy ending is real. Like, WTF. WHAT IS THIS?!?!??!?

I'm here for Gong Jun.

From suspenseful to stale.

My first impression isn't all that great. The first 15 minutes told me what I hope to expect from the drama and the last 5 minutes said, "But we'll throw in a few cliches and annoying tropes."

It's okay so far; nothing special. I liked Gong Jun's acting (of course) and it was nice to see two familiar faces—Luo Yi and Wang Zi Wei. But the FL and SL don't look like they'll be my favourite characters.

But this drama might shape up to be a trainwreck. I learned very early to trust my instincts about dramas... I'm gonna give it 4 episodes. Although the action and rescue scenes are good, those aren't the only things I should be watching the drama for.

Also, try not to watch this with a critical mind... This drama doesn't take itself too seriously (imo).
