Extraordinary adult melodrama

I never watched the trailer as other reviewers had, so I had no preconceived notions about the plot. This is a true melodrama, absent of fluff and lighthearted comedy. It tells an emotional story of three friends who lovingly support one another through extremely difficult circumstances. There are romantic partners who play important roles throughout the drama. The acting is top notch! It’s a well written and superbly acted story. The story is realistic and depicts circumstances that are unfortunately a part of life for some people.

Story had potential, but dragged on and was too negative.

After watching countless dramas and leaving so many good reviews, I really hate to even mention how disappointing this one is. The story itself has too many negatives. Writers and directors should know the audience needs at least a few positives to stick with a 30 episode drama. Nothing goes right for anyone 90% of the time. The potential for three romantic relationships are squandered by the writer’s who give us next to nothing by the way of romance. The supposed ten year long love of the main couple fell flat. By the time another romance finally blossomed, after 23 episodes, I didn’t really care if they ever got together. There was no chemistry in any of the relationships. How many failed attempts at making his movie did the audience have to suffer through? I don’t blame the actors for this lackluster drama, they can only play the roles they are given.

The best Chinese drama I have seen

This is a love story from beginning until the end, without the usual tropes of most dramas. The acting for the main leads is excellent. The story keeps you watching as the dramatic family dynamics unfold. The chemistry between the leads develops beautifully as the story progresses. Solid, well-acted adult dramas like this are quite rare, as the teen and college age storylines are more commonplace with Chinese dramas. I highly recommend this choice for anyone looking for a truly romantic story that doesn’t keep you waiting until the final episodes, like most do.

Like watching a tragic train wreck

It’s a well made series with fine acting, but watching this was pure torture. It appears the writer has a mixed view of men who commit adultery. The story was made worse by continually showing the affairs with their mistresses over and over. Each male character is portrayed as having no conscience, morals or scruples. One husband didn’t have a good marriage, but the other two went off to satisfy their lust while betraying devoted wives and their children, with absolutely no regard for them. It really paints a bleak picture of married life. Women who enter into affairs with married men should realize that these men can never be trusted and have no sense of loyalty, commitment or conscience. The premise that no one loves the same person for a lifetime is easily debunked by the millions of couples who have loved the same person for a lifetime, and you can count me among them, having been happily married for 52 years. Many marry for the wrong reasons and others don’t know the difference between love and lust. This drama would certainly discourage any woman from ever marrying.

It's better than these reviews claim

While I have to agree with others that the female lead as a man was a pure joke, the rest of the story has some merit. No one in the real world would buy into her role as male. The story itself is not bad. The episodes 30 are short and keep the story moving. Some aspects of the story get pretty emotional in the later episodes. It is the romance that keeps your interest. The previous reviews were brutal and I don't agree with them. Once you get past the first 8 or so episodes the story improves. Don't dismiss it just because some people didn't like it.

Very disappointing, definitely not a love story!

Here we have an egotistical, arrogant, self- indulging pretty boy who manipulates and uses a gullible, naive, delusional and weak-minded female for his own frequent sexual pleasures. This is all about lust, no romance at all. This female lead character shows the worst inclinations and judgement possible for any members of the female gender. There are only a few redeeming characters in this dysfunctional misguided bunch. It was frustrating to watch this female lead allow herself be used over and over again. Other than for sexual gratification, they had no relationship. This was made by Netflix and it is far removed from the typical conservative Korean culture we have come to know. A huge disappointment!

Well worth watching

Even though the family dynamics are beyond frustrating to watch, it’s a good drama. At times I was so exasperated watching the outrageously controlling and obsessive parents that I thought to simply stop watching, but I hung in there and am glad I did. While all of the family dysfunction and dramatics unfold, so do a few love stories. The character portrayed as the doctor’s mother was one to hate, but the actress playing the role did an extraordinary job in her role. Her acting was extraordinary!

The most tortured non-romance ever!

It was like watching an endless train wreck. You keep watching thinking there has to be an upside to this story, but it never happens. You just get sucked further down a rabbit hole of a depressing storyline . Kudos to the principle male lead for excellently portraying the most heartsick, forlorn, long suffering character imaginable. This had to be exhausting for this actor to play this tortured role, but he really pulled it off. He was one of the few characters I liked and could emphasize with, aside from the young boyfriend that was used and discarded. I really grew to despise the character that was the female lead. I found her to be arrogant, heartless, deceptive and selfish. The clingy, privileged, wanna-be girlfriend was another irritating character. The soundtrack was the only redeeming factor in this drama.

Amazing drama!

To sum up this drama in one word, extraordinary! This is far and away the absolute best Chinese drama I have ever seen. I'll go a step further and say that this drama ranks among the best I have ever seen from any country. First, let me say that I don't watch period dramas and only made this exception after reading the glowing reviews. My tastes run more to romantic dramas, both light hearted and the more serious types. I am so glad that I decided to give this drama a chance to expand into the period/historical drama realm.
The story is riveting! The multitude of characters in this drama are so well written. The acting is phenomenal! It's rare to see such high quality cinematography, along with countless elaborate settings. This is no doubt a high budget production. By all means, treat yourself to this emotion and action packed gem.

Well worth watching

As K-dramas go, this one is better than the average drama. It’s a treat to watch an “adult” drama where there isn’t a naive, immature female with bad hair. There are several adult romances and side stories to keep it interesting. The main male lead is pure eye candy and a pleasure to watch. The backdrop of the cosmetic industry also provided interest. It’s well made, entertaining, has a good cast of characters and a very good looking actors playing those roles. I give it a major thumbs up!

Exceptional acting

The story starts out like an entertaining romance that fizzles, then picks up steam as they reunite years later. As the story progresses things fall apart and the romance inexplicably comes to an end, with each going their separate ways. it is frustrating to watch as things take a dark turn. The male lead remains a lovable charter throughout the drama, but the female lead does not. Both lead characters do a fine job playing very emotional roles, but the male lead is really exceptional at emoting his pain and suffering. His emotions project to the audience and are palpable to the point that I found myself tearing up several times through numerous episodes. His performance is the reason I rated it higher than most others. Truth be told, I did not want the male lead to reunite with his first love.

Well worth watching this gem!

Definitely worthy of a binge watch! This excellent drama will hold your interest, with some truly stellar performance by the main leads. A touching romance unfolds as the troubled leads find each other and fall in love. There are light-hearted moments along the way, coupled with more serious subject matter. It’s not a bunch of fluff. Through the ups and downs it remains easy to watch. Along the way you’ll get hooked on the romance of this lovable couple that is brought to life by excellent acting. The male lead’s performance is phenomenal! I highly recommend it!

Well worth watching

First of all, I rarely ever watch period dramas, but this one is in more recent times. The male lead character is what kept me watching. He is pure eye candy for one, but the character he portrayed was what held the entire story together. Whether on display with his military prowess or as the romantic with his undying love for the female lead his acting was exceptional. I won’t lie, the character of the female lead gave me fits. Her acting was very good, but the character the writers created was frustrating to watch, as she went back and forth with the treatment of her devoted husband. The never ending stream of misunderstandings almost drove me to walk away from the drama. I hung in there because of the stellar performance of the male lead and I am glad I did. Along with all of the emotional, romantic and war torn drama came some history that those outside of Asia know little of. All in all, I’m glad I watched it.

An outstanding drama

You’re hooked from the very beginning. Be prepared for binge watching because you’ll find it hard to tear yourself away. The acting is top notch. The story that unfolds has many aspects which keeps it interesting and often emotional. The role played by the father will touch your heart time and time again. The actor in that role ( Li Chun Lee) is excellent. Roy Chiu performs the most outstanding role of his career, a complex character you’ll sometimes despise, but grow to love. Treat yourself to this gem!

An absolute gem!

Do not miss treating yourself to this exceptionally good drama, which I rank among the very best. The storyline is like no other. The acting talent of the main couple is phenomenal and worthy of awards. You really grow to love these characters. As another reviewer mentioned, you really hate to see the story end. When a drama makes reference to mental illness I expect a depressing story and avoid them, but this drama is so touching and heartfelt that it is uplifting rather than the downer you would expect. I have watched many other excellent dramas, but never loved a drama as much as I loved this one. ON NETFLIX.
