Mizusawa Rio lingers around a small train station in the mountainous region of Gifu. She continues sitting on a bench at the platform even when the train is gone. Shinozaki Ryota arrives at the train station. He is on his way back after receiving a manuscript of essays from Sazanami Keitaro, a distinguished author who lives in this town. These essays will be serialized in a new magazine. There is still time until the next train. Catching sight of Rio in the waiting room, Ryota asks her if there is a coffee house nearby because he is hungry. That is when he notices the white cane by her side and realizes that she cannot see. He tries to go to the coffee house which she told him about, but it has closed down. When he returns to the train station, Rio is attempting to buy a drink from the vending machine. Suddenly remembering that she cannot see, Ryota runs up to her and calls out, “Would you like me to buy?” At that moment, the drink can lands at the bottom of the machine with a thud. “I’ve already bought it,” she responds lightheartedly. Rio had bet on a cold coffee coming out, but what she gets is a hot coffee instead. Ryota quickly buys a cold coffee for himself and hands it to her. “Yes, you guessed right.” Rio accepts it with a smile as he gazes at her face. The two of them talk in the waiting room while they drink the canned coffee. Ryota says he works for a publisher. He had come to get the manuscript from Sazanami and the essays are about his wife. The time for Ryota’s train soon approaches and the two of them bid farewell. After Ryota has left, Rio becomes aware of the soft sound of something rustling in the breeze. Reaching out her hand in the direction of the sound, she feels something like a paper bag! She picks it up and heads to the ticket gate with her white cane. “Excuse me. I think you forgot something! It might be your important manuscript!” The paper bag which Rio has mistaken for the manuscript is a package of confection that Ryota had received from Sazanami, but he gratefully takes it.
