Splendid Politics Episode 1
Gwanghae meets with his ailing father, the aforementioned King Seonjo, who is more than dubious about his son’s efforts to rebuild Changdeok Palace. He sees it as Gwanghae’s way of preparing the palace for when he will reign, though his son tries to gently affirm that he has it all wrong. After the King announces the preparation of deposing Gwanghae the political leader of the Great Northern faction, Jung In-hong meets with the king on Gwanghae’s behalf, while Gwanghae kneels in silent protest outside the throne room. Seonjo takes it personally to mean that Gwanghae will be a better king than him. And that’s exactly why he wants to depose him. After some time gwanghae wants to speak with his father when he witnesses him dying. The palace is thrown into uproar as everyone mobilizes to fetch the royal doctor, leaving Gwanghae to tend to his father while they wait. He coaches his father on breathing calmly, but when his father asks for water, Gwanghae hesitates…

Splendid Politics Episode 1 Reactions
With the last scene of this episode Gwanghaes character captured my attention. I must say that I'm already familar with Prince Gwanhae and his story. In The King's Face he was pictured as a very nice, upright and wise but pitiful man, actually the same as in the begining of this episode. The Crown Prince has more enemies then supporters on the cour and even his own father doesn't cherish any feelings pf him as his son, rather as another political enemy. The King isn't only wary but also jealous of Gwanghae because of his methods of reign that lead to his popularity by the people of Joseon. Because of his weakness that Gwanghae makes him indirectly aware of he hate his son and does everything he can to depose him and doesn't listen to the princes pleads.
In 'The King's Face' Gwanghae remained that kind son and grieved over his father. I was expecting the very same from this gwanghae too BUT he did surprise me when he let everything he thought out on the Kings deathbed. Appearently this character had experinced a realistic character development. Different from 'The king's face' Gwanghae did realize that the king "didn't like the fact that [he] was different frim [him] because [he is] not incompetent like [him]"
