Personally, I think the beginning was very well done. The child actors did a good job within the film, especially given it was such a big part. When it got to when she was older it got a bit confusing I thought, but after a little thinking you can understand. The story line was good, but I think it had a bit too many concepts thrown in. I wish it was a simple "girl returns to grandmother and has to adapt to life" sort of thing, but I understand that for a lot of people, that wouldn't sell. I also don't like how there are hints at romance within it, but then that is abandonned - you should either leave it or put it in. However if that sort of thing doesn't bother you then this film is pretty good.
As I said, the cast is quite good. The young children within the film do a good job, as do the grandmother and Hye-ji. The acting can't be flawed too much, but I don't think it was a perfect performance by anybody.
Overall, I would rewatch it possibly. I think it is a nice film and it does give you something to think about, which I enjoy. It was a good film.
Sadly, I can't tell you where to get English subtitles online. I'm sure they will come out soon. I watched it on a Cathay Pacific flight, so that's the only way I can tell you to get it (nice holiday in HK)

I don't know if anybody has this problem... cause for me, I have been watching too many dramas that I do not have patience to watch a movie anymore and I end up dropping the movie half the way.
But this movie had me gripped from the first scene to the last! It had everything that I would look for in 'beautiful' movie! Great actors, cinematography, setting and simple but a heart touching story!
I am not sure if I would like to term it to be sad story (even though it tear jerking)...cause although the movie has a sad ending, it seemed to be satisfying. I would call it a bittersweet story!
A tragically beautiful movie about family, love(not romantic), loss and reunion and death. If you have had a grandma whom you shared a good bond with, then this movie is gonna take you down the memory lane and would make you miss her!
My only problem was that Choi Min Ho's pretty face was such a waste in this movie cause of the very brief role he had to play!
I would suggest this movie as one of the best Korean Movie!

The story was very well done, the progression was done very smoothly, plot twists were not too predictable but even when they were, they were delivered very well.
Acting was very convincing, the cinematography was great. The romance while being tempting, the way it fell off showed a lot about her inner guilt.
This is a 10/10 or at least a 9.5/10 in my book, perhaps it may have a few areas in need of improvement, maybe the music, I don't know - but as far as story is concerned, it was done well.

Simple story but emotion makes it grand
After a long log time I watched a movie filled with so much emotion. Story is not new but presented in such an emotional way, it made me cry a lot.Definitely not the mood cheering story but it will make us dive dee us into emotion that we will automatically connect with the story and actors.
Brilliant child actors and superb acting by Kim Go Eun. She has done excellent job in this movie as well.
There is no words to describe about Youn Yuh Jung in this movie. Her acting takes this movie to another level. "Sea is surely bigger than the sky".
I feel happy that I watched this movie. It is truly a gem.

나가 느편 해줄 테니 너는 느 원대로 살라! 할망이 모든 거 다 해줄 거야.
For starters, the translation of the title is "Grandma Gye Chun", not Canola. I guess because it might be hard to remember for foreign viewers.?️The Jeju Island atmosphere of the drama Our Blues is one of my favorites in Korean cinema. This movie might have a messy screenplay, a couple of unfinished parts and some misleading unexplained moments, but it also has many beautifully shot scenes and heartwarming dialogues, e.g. Hye Ji going diving with her granny. Later she draws a picture of them holding hands underwater and floating in the deep ocean up to the light. It also reveals another person who was as close to them. Honestly, that picture got me crying. My big admiration for the artist who painted it. If you saw it you know what I'm talking about.
Another great part is acting. Kim Go Eun is incredible as always. She's incredible. That's it. I admire her. I do.

Prepare for an emotional adventure
I cried non-stop like a baby for the last half an hour of the film. I wasn't prepared for this. No wonder that the grandma actress got an oscar this year as her performance is simply amazing. I started watching this movie, thinking it will be a lightweight feel-good film, but it's really the opposite. It's sad, sometimes confusing, and hard to watch, though it fills you with love.At first, I thought I wasn't attached to the whole story and the scenery as the film doesn't try too hard to make you overly nostalgic, but towards the end, I realized I was wrong. I also find it refreshing that the idol doesn't take up the leading or very important role, he stays in the background. If you want to bawl your eyes out, this film is for you.
Good luck watching it;)

"Blood doesn't make you family, love does."
This is one of the many South Korean films that made me sob for a while. Maybe it's a grandmother-granddaughter story and watching it reminded me of my grandma whom I don't see very often. One of the things I adore about this film is that it was set in the beautiful Jeju Island, a place that I'd like to visit someday. It also featured the haenyeo, Jeju Island's celebrated female divers. The plot twist is something that could shock the viewers, but it was beautifully delivered by the cast. Smooth yet heartwrenching.
It's a bittersweet tale and is the perfect expression of a quote I've read somewhere: "Blood doesn't make you family, love does."
Would I recommend this movie? Absolutely.
