Both are historical dramas and the story revolves around political intrigues. The friendship between the male protagonists is really strong and both are in love with the same girl.

Both drama's are Time Period dramas. Both have an evil Queen. In SHR the Queen is more evil, whereas in Hwarang the Queen is more neglectful.

Both are historical dramas with backstabbing and political intrigue. The bromance in both dramas are strong and overshadow the romance. However, the romance in Hwarang is more prominent compared to My Country, so if you're looking for a romantic historical drama, this might not be the fit for you. Nonetheless, both are amazing dramas, and I would recommend My Country.

Both are about teaching and disciplining students/young men in an academy during the historical period and have romance involved (more bromance in Hwarang).

=> Both are set in the Silla Dynasty
=> If you became a fan of King Jinheung from Hwarang, you can be satisfied of how he has become a great King at the beginning of Queen Seon Deok.
=> As both are only two of the very few dramas about Silla dynasty, both dramas are among the very few that can help people understand the bone rank system in Silla.
=> Both dramas have a woman who is technically not a queen, but acts and really wants to be one.
=> Both dramas offer either a beginning or an ending for the character King Jinheung. For Hwarang fans, Queen Seon Deok shows how he became a great King. For Queen Seon Deok fans, Hwanrang is a possible beginning of Queen Seon Deok's grandfather Jinheung.
=> Hwarang (youth warriors) are given importance in one drama. If you want to see a different kind of Hwarang you just watched in one drama, then watch the other one.
=> For Hwarang fans, Queen Seon Deok is what happens if the King of Silla fails to produce a Seonggol (sacred bone) male heir that continues to live a long life.
=> For Queen Seon Deok fans, I believe that the main villain in Hwarang Park Young Shil is Mishil's grandfather (see her ancestors on wikipedia to prove), so its a treat to see her family's roots on villainy.

Both historical drama with good blend of lightness and serious/sombre scenes. Has a main girl and many visually pretty/handsome guys. Overall it gives the same vibe but different plot.

In the drama Hwarang one can find martial arts as a common point.
Also both the dramas focus on teaching morals that help an individual grow in life.
Both the dramas also have a school kind of setting.
The bromance in both the dramas is strong at the end of the day.
The biggest difference between both is that Hwarang is set as a historical drama.
I highly recommend Hwarang.. It has a little bit of comedy and it is fun to watch.

Both dramas are historical, filled with comedy, romance and royal family matters. The female leads in both of these series are very similar in my view, also caught up in a love triangle with two men + the hidden king motif.

A very similar vibe to these two shows. They are both are both set in military schools for the elite. While AMA uses a male in disguise as part of its storyline, it is the attitude of the main characters display in both shows that really make both shows binge worthy. Both have have elements of humour, romance and action.

Both dramas have fake sibling relationship that puts a dramatic & angsty spin on the leads’ romance. One drama is historical while the other one is modern (2005).

Both historical dramas. Similar headstrong and stubborn female lead. Also similar conspiracies in the royal family storyline.

A popular teenager inexplicably finds herself in the body of an unpopular classmate - and her body's new owner has no intention of switching back.

The series centers on Ayumi Kohinata, a first-year high school student who has a cute and shy personality. She's excited that she just started dating her first boyfriend, but on the day of their first date, she gets a mysterious call from her classmate Zenko Umine. Zenko says she's going to die, and Ayumi witnesses Zenko jumping from a building. The next thing she knows, Ayumi wakes up in a hospital, but in Zenko's body.

Both have a few similarities -
* Both have love triangle.
* Both have two royal bloods
* Conspiracies
But the ending of Hwarang is much better that KIL. The FL of KIL is better than FL in Hwarang. The comic aspect is more in Hwarang. That's what I felt.
