Both have the same heartbreaking stories, and depicts the job as a host/stand-in service! Both FLs are experiencing marriage + identity problems. Both are depressing in their own ways.

both are directed by Shunji Iwai so they have similar melancholy feel and aesthetic. main characters share some character traits and themes about loneliness and human connection.

Both are directed by Shunji Iwai and have his signature style. Beautiful films in all respects, that will appeal to those who love quiet, introspective, slow films that don't spell things out for the viewer. I honestly believe that the director is someone who has great respect for his audience.
