The best BL series ever. Great chemistry between the actors. Fantastic acting, so natural and real. I have watched it several times :)

I've liked Huang Jingyu from Moonlight and Valentine. I was tempted to watch Addicted but didn't get pass the 2nd episode and dropped the drama more or less due to the fact that I was not interested in BL. I decided to watch Untamed for the cinematography/costume and was moved by the BL in that series. Out of curiosity, I decided to give Addicted a second chance (good decision) and I was disappointed that I was out in limbo because the series didn't have a second part. So I read the English translation (thank you to the translators) of the novel and reading it again. The characters from the drama and their personality played out in my mind as I read the novel. Great actors that depicted the characters in the novel. It's a great loss that China banned such dramas about homosexuality; the essence of the novel is lost in the drama but still is great because the story has the structure as in the novel. Going back to re-watch the drama after reading the novel will increase another level of appreciation.

This series will leave you wanting more!
The most refreshing part of this series is how natural the characters feel. The actors chosen were a perfect fit and the chemistry between them is great. They truly make you feel for them.
There are parts throughout where I felt some more content was needed but overall it was really well done.
They ending though... If this show was intended to have multiple seasons, then I think they ended the show very nicely. You can tell they chose to end it with an ending that can be continued. Since they made it so it can be continued, I really hope they make a second season!
Even though there is an open ending, I still think it's worth watching!

The unpopular opinion review

So, I rushed to watch this after savoring it for a while, just to be disappointed.
Don't get me wrong though, the actors were really good, they lifted the story quite a bit.
So did the music.
It ends there.

Story wise, not sure if its like that in the webseries, it is bit lacking.
The censorship around their skinship and other intimate moments really ruined it all.
It was ok, to show assault, sexually and other types of asssaults but anything around love was cut out.
The whole romantizesing of forced behaviours upon others really gave some distaste.
The whole near rape and various lack of consent things going on, without proper follow up was disturbing.

To really really mess things up, the last 10 minutes of the end of the final episode felt really unfinnished.
It even pissed me off a bit.
But sure, the chemistry between the actors was top notch, but as I first mentioned, that and the music was what made the series watchable, not the story itself.

Worth a rewatch? No.
I dont get it why so many thinks so highly of this series.

CLOSE TO PERFECT

I have been transported to another place, another life and I loved (almost) every minute of it. This almost felt like a documentary to me. I felt like I was spying on these two boys and their actual lives. It was so real, no natural. Excquisite.

First, I have to talk about the setting for this series. This small, impoverished neighborhood was such a fresh setting for me (I'm a Westerner, although I have spent plenty of time all over Asia). I loved the glimpse into the everyday lives of these simple people. I longed to go to Auntie's shop and have her make me breakfast, bicycle to the river to fish and even wash out my only pair of underwear to hang on the line. There was such dignity and love in all these details. Incredible art direction, cinematography and direction. Top notch.

The set-up was contrived (step-brothers don't know they are step-brothers), but it was set up well, so you could buy into easily. And when the reveal happened later, it felt like a natural progression and evolution, so you can forgive the conveniences.

The characters are complex. They struggle with their emotions in real time. Not much is forced here (with a few exceptions). I never felt like we fast-forwarded through important moments just to get the boys together sooner. I actually loved the playful teasing and pranking they each performed at the start. It felt fairly realistic and when Bai Luo. Yin sews Gu Hai's sleeves together I laughed a lot. Gotcha! The evolution of their friendship felt natural. Little moments meant so much. Secretly following your crush to school and home again. Sigh.

The actors are incredible. Again, so real, so raw, so natural. Rarely one false moment. At first, I didn't even think Timmy was that handsome. But as time went on and I grew to love both of these characters, he suddenly turned into one of the most handsome men I had ever seen. I fell in love with them both and wanted them to fall in love with each other so desperately. And can we talk about the Dad? First off, Dads are not my type. But I have a crush on Wang Dong. What a sweet, kind character as well. Despite his shortcomings, his love for his son is palpable and his desire to improve their lives admirable. He was so endearing. Great job.

There were a couple of odd/uncomfortable plot points. I felt the "let's masturbate together, everybody does it" moment was rushed. You might want to ease into that, especially when your bro is NOT into it. Worse, the kidnapping and attempted rape seemed to come from out of nowhere. It did not fit Gu Hai's character, to me. Yes he has a temper. But this was borderline sociopathic. I get that he's obsessed but how would you ever expect anyone to accept that. I was surprised it didn't have more of a negative impact on their relationship. That felt like a mis-step to me.

When they finally move in together it was everything I could ever hope for. Naturally, problems arise, but I loved seeing them move into a more comfortable, physical relationship. Unfortunately, I watched this on YT, so I think the sexy scenes were cut, but I didn't really need them. They made it quite clear what was going on under those bedsheets.

I'm sorry it ended so abruptly. I'm sorry we won't see a Season 2. I'm sorry these two have been banned from appearing together as well. They have great chemistry.

But I will watch this again and again. You should too.

HIStory 3: Make Our SOTUS Days Count

HIStory 3: Make Our SOTUS Days Count
?

EP 1: Erm, ok? maybe it's just the start? let's give this a chance ?
EP 2: What's happening? CUTE stalking? cutting up clothes to fail to sew them? that abrupt ending?!?! huh?!?!
EP 3: Bai Luo Yin had a GF, the rest is just pranks. more CUTE Stalking... "I wanted to know how poor you really are"?!?! that director is a piece of ?
EP 4: "You have to suffer if you want to cure me" Because drugging your schoolmate and messing with his health is pure love ?? - Toxic Much? And the acting is kinda horrible, to be honest ...I'm so sorry to say this because these actors are fucking GORGEOUS ?. I'mma break your leg if you don't apologize... erm... RED FLAG ???
EP 5: Now this was good... just normal stuff.. eating, hanging out, going on "dates"... and the music is actually good now, unlike EP1. and 2. and 3,4.
EP 6: Kinda maybe sorta better?! I guess... Why is Gu Hai flirting with Bai Luo Yin if he has a GF? TF?
EP 7: Mama and Papa trying to make things good? BLY knows that GH is rich.
EP 8: BLY gets injured and GH gets mad at YM for being fem?! huh? Also, GH keeps on groping BLY. WTF. GH's gesture for Auntie was kind.
EP 9: GH and LuLu, toxic much?!?! But on the other hand, GH talking about BLY... so touching. And BHQ got a new job. yaaaay... but that cut at the end of the episode... who TF edited this ?
EP 10: GH putting his hand on BLY's privates while sleeping...hmmm. And why is GH jealous of / mad at his girlfriend cheating on him while he is doing the same thing?!?! They found out that they were brothers and BLY can't accept that. I understand that there are SO MANY emotions there but, take a breath and talk it out. Don't rush things. (Maybe I would have done the same thing at his age? I don’t know )
EP 11 & 12: What's with the editing of when YQ came to visit BLY ?, KIDNAPPING?!?! Seriously.. and what with that dinner scene right after the attempted rape scene... wtf? As if everything is nice and jolly?!?! I don't get it. And BLY was told that he has an HBV(and STD) (spoiler he Doesn't ) that he doesn't want GH to contract but GH instead of respecting BLY's wishes/concern... has sex with him (in a rape-y kinda way...NO. Why did YQ yell at YM, like... all of a sudden? And is there gonna be a love triangle between GH, BLY, and YQ? Literally no relationship development between YQ-BLY-YM...NOOOONE. Cute moments here and there.
EP 13: OK, not bad... still no clue about YQ and YM but meh... Finally, a moment where GH said sorry to BLY after being a total dick and super jealous. BHQ❤️ZXY. YESSSSS
EP 14: GH's cousin is a dick... Cudos to BLY for keeping his composure. Mother, please don't enter somebody else's house without their permission. Just wait outside. Thank you.
EP 15: Cute Christmas, That almost-sex-scene ,,, haba-haba ?... and the return of the BLY's ex gf... and we're left hanging

The editing (abruption of an episode all of a sudden and some scene cuts that don't make sense.) wasn't my favorite
The soundtrack... I CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER IT. And I'm a sucker for OSTs.
Why are Yang Meng and You Qi on the poster too? they barely had any interaction with each other... so man loose ends... I thought they were gonna be a couple too, but nope

I don't care if it's China or 2016 or whatever... this drama isn't good... I don't understand the cult following, to be honest.

4/10

I literally loveeeeeeeee this BL .
This was my first BL I watched . I never thought of watching any this kind of drama . at first thought of dropping the plan of watching addicted(as I'm straight so that time it felt awkward to watched gay drama) but honestly If I had done that I would regret rest of my life..

Honestly this drama has the best plot ,characte. I really loveeddd this drama specially the main leads Guhai and yinzi ...
Gingyu and Xuzhou are actually so perfect together . Honestly guys plz do watch this drama . yeah u I get hurt when I get to know that this drama had banned . not even that I really felt disappointed . when I know that both jingyu and xuzhou are banned to be in public together .This was the hardest part of my life
.
Anyways all fans of guhai and yinzi still having hope that one day they will work together again . Hope to watch season 2 . And can't wait see both of them together again .
Talking about character I realllllllly loved both role of protagonist. As for guhai his character is bold, sharp, straightforward, caring, lovingly toward only yinzi .For me he is really hit , handsome, cute and manly .
I really loveddddd guhai character I guess I really love jingyu because of the character he played in addicted because its dammmm suitable to him.
As for yinzi he is also bold, strong, but never show his feeling toward guhai . as guhai always directly show his feeling without hesitation but yinzi can't do that .Although I also loveddd his character . As Yinzi is type of serious man bold but in reality he is actually sooo adorable cute type personality. But still the role both actor played is outstanding I really really loved both of them .
The drama don't have all episode but I already read novel and I really can relate both of them with the help of novel . And yes this Is my favorite drama ever . even better then normal drama (not BL) .

I honestly wished I entered the world of BL a little earlier. At first, I was a little sceptical. knowing how the Chinese government has banned so many promising bl shows or turned them into bromance, and learning how short the episodes were I was afraid this show would be like so many others, rushed and chaotic. I'm glad I was wrong.

Plot: The plot is interesting enough. It progresses at a good pace. However, I felt like it was missing something to keep me hooked. Sometimes I had to fight the urge to just jump to the main lead scenes and skip the scenes with their parents. The contrasts between rich and poor were portrayed accurately. I loved how there was no cliche rich bad guy-poor good guy character. The only thing I disliked was the side characters. I would have liked to see some side-story development instead of just making them obstacles the male leads had to overcome. Some depth to the other cast would have been nice too. Understandably, it ended a little abruptly and I was not able to fully enjoy their progress but it still left me feeling warm inside.
rating: 7/10

Acting: the whole cast did an amazing drop. the on-screen chemistry of the leads was on a whole other level.
They really carried the drama. They did an amazing job portraying the confusion and hesitance that occur in those situations. It was a pleasure watching the development of all the characters throughout the series. I especially enjoyed watching the father-son interactions. The male leads are what hooked me line and sinker.
rating: 10/10

Music: honestly, the osts did not especially stand out to me. I liked watching the intro because it contained some scenes that were not there in the drama itself. The outro was pleasant too. Maybe I was just too engrossed with the male leads to recall the songs.
rating: 7/10

rewatch value: it has been only a month but I'm still addicted to "Addicted" bl edits.
rating: 9/10
Overall: 9/10. to all the BL fans out there who haven't watched it, just go for it, it's worth all the data and time. Trust me. I only wished there was more.

girl now i have seen some shit in my life....

this was some shit.

all 27 years i went by not seeing this in my eyeballs was amazing. now, at 29, i am still flabbergasted. amazed. stupified. what even was this and what is going on with the people who make this stuff or anyone involved? why did i put this in my eyeballs? what the FUCK did i just watch? - me in 2019, me in 2021

to say i remember nothing about this series but the fact that the boy kidnapped the other boy he was "in love" with and almost raped him and then did rape him or sth in the original novel (who cares oh my god i dont need this in my head) but the STORY itself? who even fucking knows. the rewatch value is nothing. the only thing that is shocking is they had real kisses but then you know. PRC was like "nah" and...lol. but like this show is so bad oh my god and the secondary couple too i cannot believe i watched thiiiis

Don't Get the Hype

This drama has been highly recommended and is the favorite for a lot of BL fans. And to some extent I get why. The acting is amazing, the plot isn't boring and I did keep coming back for more. However, this drama will not age well. It already hasn't. BLs have a serious problem with romanticizing rape and this drama is incredibly guilty of it. I was uncomfortable for a huge portion of this drama, the only reason I came back because the chemistry between the leads are off the charts and I really couldn't resist.

Louyin at times doesn't make sense to me. He doesn't get mad at things I thought he would and he gets mad at things that I really don't see the big deal about. Louyin's motivations confuse me to put it plain and simple. Nonetheless I did enjoy watching this drama until the very end when it leaves us on a cliff hanger with no resolution in sight. It's been four years and I highly doubt we will see a continuation of this drama despite rumors and promises of a completion to it. The drama was banned in China so I really don't have my hopes up. But if you ignore the last five or so minutes of the drama, it's a fine open ending instead leaving us on a cliff hanger.
