a brilliantly developed introduction which uses animation, pictures, music, words and a narrator to introduce you to the topic that is about to come: this changes at every single episode. Reconstructing a scenery to resemble Shanghai in the early 1900's, must have been really challenging because they did an outstanding job: you get the feeling of being there as if you could almost smell its perfumes. The costumes are impeccable in every single detail and so is the music. The acting is impeccable as usual (to be honest, I still have to find "bad" acting in Chinese TV series). The actors are so totally blended with their characters that is impossible to tell that they are acting: this is great for full immersion into a movie where the rest of the world disappears. The quality is incredibly high, the dialogues accurate for that era - though I was reading the English subs. Even the actors with marginal roles do an outstanding job with their performance. This is a true pearl which I strongly recommend the entire world to watch: so far one of the best in its genre.

To begin with, this drama is very overhyped. Firstly, a first half of story is really, really good. It´s exciting, thrilling, you are curious what happens next. However, a second half is so big disappointment. In the storyline they are few actions and scenes which really don´t make sense for me and story is based on... moment of surprise? So there is a lot of surprising things to keep a watcher in tension. However, these surprising situations are a fall of this drama. For example, 2x almost death of main villain but she is still alive. Why?
What´s more, female lead is incapable and irritating. She seems like innocent angel and knows nothing. On the other hand, acting is not so bad and you will love You Tou. Honestly, he was only reason why I completed this drama. Main negative character was quite amazing too (I really hate her). Her character was wonderfully written. Acting was amazing too. However, that doesn´t help anything.
In conclusion, I was really disappointed in this drama. In first half it seems it could be one of my favourite chinese dramas. However... You know, well... it didn´t happen.

Started out with potential but ended with inconsistencies; watch lightly without full investment
This is a show that you watch just to enjoy the actors and the cliché plots and scenes. It's not a drama that you need to fully invest emotionally and mentally and so don't worry too much about plot. I only came here to watch Zhang Zhehan and came to really enjoy Li Yitong's acting as well. I enjoyed their chemistry and their scenes and really liked their characters despite some small frustrations. Some people don't like Ming Xia because he doesn't seem to do as much for Qing Cheng, but for a human man, he has a genuine and true heart toward her. I appreciate that. I did have second lead syndrome for a little while for Yalkun Merxat's You Tong, but that went away toward the end. I really adore Ming Xia and felt bad for him toward the end of this season since he was just a human after all and was manipulated to some extent.
Some people also didn't like Qing Cheng and are frustrated with her going back and forth--and I do think the story didn't need to do that as much--but it was understandable for me. Qing Cheng is not a badass (in this season). She's just a girl who's frightened of what she's becoming and fears for her loved ones. Yes, she was weak (physically--she wasn't a fighter and didn't know her powers yet)and too trusting, but that was her personality to believe in good and righteous. She was just trying to protect her loved ones but sadly that backfired in many ways. Thus, in season 2, the contrast is huge--she changes. I'll stop there with the season 2 spoilers.
The last probably 6-8 episodes did suffer in writing a lot and I ended up skipping the scenes to just get to the end to see what happened. There were several things that made me laugh because of its plot hole or ridiculous scenario--like when the villain human doctor survives a cliff fall but not the demon boy. It made me laugh ultimately so that was whatever. But definitely, toward the end, the writing became something like a middle-school fanfiction full of clichés and unnecessary angst/drama.
In the end, the acting especially from the two leads saved the show for me (along with a couple supporting characters who were interesting). I felt their emotions and sadness and even felt sad about their partings. I even liked the flashbacks to the older era (with Qing Cheng's parents). This drama has some strong cinematography, soundtracks, and directing, but alas, it suffers from poor writing. Ah, all that potential.
Edit after having seen most of season 2:
Oh yeah, season 1 is like an origins story for Qing Cheng lol and although I like the focus on the romance between Qing Cheng and Ming Xia a lot, I actually like season 2 more for various reasons that I'll write a review for.

Vampire like demons with wings
Mainleads Zhang Zhehan and Li YiTong make a cute couple. I like the first season better with Merxat. The storyline is better in the first season also. Second season has Steven Ma, which I was excited to see again. Zhang Zhehan’s role wasn’t as strong as it should be but his acting did not disappoint. For the first time I think Merxat was more deserving of being with the main female lead. Maybe I watched it on YouTube but the quality and effect of this drama looked old and outdated. Nevertheless the cast did the best they can with the storyline, and it was worth watching if you are into fantasy dramas. Was this review helpful to you?
Nie Qing Cheng and Ming Xia are super cute characters that I was cheering for the whole time.
Zhang Zhe Han and Li Yi Tong had great chemistry and you will fall in love with them. You'll also love He Rui Xian as Jiang Xue Wu. She does an amazing job bringing her character to life.
My main complaint with Demon Girl, is that it's repetitive. The same situations will happen a couple of times. One at the beginning, one in the middle, and one at the end. Since it's repetitive, it's predictable.
Also note this is another open ended show. They purposely did it to create Demon Girl 2 and even though I enjoyed this show, I don't feel the need to watch the sequel.
Overall, it was a good show to watch but I wouldn't watch it again and it didn't move me enough to watch the sequel.

To see the ending I must say there must be season2 otherwise it is totally messup story which end with nonsense .About drama it is ok .The only part which I like about drama is lead actor acting and his intense love towards demon .his acting win my heart .He has beautiful smile .He always pull the attraction.only his charm balanced the drama .otherwise I don't find something interesting in the drama .the way story start is good ,the way lead actor and actress meet is also good ,they shows love triangle that make me sad but second lead give up with no regrets ,so it is ok.but too much they stretch the story ,I thought lead actress's mother will come back to their life as they shown that her father waiting for her mother ,so I thought her mother will come but nothing happened like that .the way Her sister's story end that I don't like it , what wrong if their love story get happy ending.then break up and patch ,then brakeip and then patch ,this also make the drama bore . I hope if there is season2 I hope it make some sense.

Amazing Costumes lackluster plot
I watched this show because I fell in love with the actor who played You Tong (Mi Re). I was not sure what I was going into beside it was romance (my least favorite genre) and that it had the typical love triangle. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the opening song, it was amazing. As well, the lead actors did a good job with this show. While I feel that the plot of the show was very slow, and made no sense at the time the actors did what they had to do, and made it bearable.I had extreme second lead syndrome for You Tong. I wish there was a demon who would sweep me off my feet and buy me a dance studio haha. I can not speak enough about his costumes (especially his wedding outfit) and the need to have him shirtless so often.
I also believe that QIngCheng deserved neither of the men, and they should have someone better. I was sad that QingCheng feelings were so inconsistent that they hurt other people. The deaths in the show were extremely upsetting, and I caught myself crying at times. I was very upset about the ending for You Tong, I believed as a character they weakened him for the female to feel something rather for her to actually learn naturally.
In the end, I believe if it was not for the acting of Zhang ZheHan, Li YiTong and Mi Re then the show would not have done well.

ming xia makes me wish i was asexual aromantic
if you want to feel like your having a conversation with your dad just watch this show.qing cheng turned me into a raging misogynist. no matter what she did or said it was just ridiclous she literaly needs professional help. she had two men to choose from: dumbo ears bitch whose an incompetent policeman and an even more incompetent male who has never been talked down upon in his entire life, and a handsome, sexy muslim demon who is chivalrous, kind, patient, understanding, and sweet. and guess who she chose. the mf with the bent ears. he doesn’t even know what hats fit his ugly ass head hes that useless. his confidence is so high and staggering that he doesn’t even realize what’s at fault. ming xia needs to choke on some yakult.
qing cheng’s sister is a suicidal freak and jiang whatever her name is was literally tom and qing cheng was jerry. and no matter what even if jerry (qing cheng) did something stupid, JIANG would face the repercussion. she should have just married tom pierce and lived a good life but instead that guy got thrown into a lake and drowned to death. fuck you all.
the only reason why i would reccomend this show if you have a good life and you want to see what it’s like to live a bad one. also, zhu zanjin and merxat yalkun are clearly the stars of the show. they were the diamonds in the rough, the only correct people in a world full of liars and criminals. the doves in a cage full of crows. they made me realize that, no matter how bad something may be....if you look hard enough, search long enough, you can find a light. and once you do, hold that light close. don’t let it go.
they also ripped off of the howl’s moving castle song.

Why must FL be so annoyingly STUPID???
Halfway through and I'm just about to throw my laptop through the window. If the FL was any more of a clueless wet blanket, I could donate her to the fire service and she could then be at least mildly useful. Being sweet and naive only get's you so far. Not even trying to use your goddamn brain and trying to summon someone when you know the police are after them and FOLLOWING you???
The girl who stood up to a mob boss in the first ep, promptly then seemed to have removed her own spine, becuase she only stands up to people who *actually* are trying to help her. Never the people trying to actively, & obviously harm her.
I really like Zhang Zhe Han & Yalkun Merxat, but they are both wasted in this story.
It's going to take a lot of desperation to get me to finish this series...
